College football insider provides update on Colorado football quarterback battle
College sports analyst and On3 football insider Pete Nakos gave a breakdown of the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback competition and what he has been hearing coming out of Boulder. Nakos broke down what he's heard and expects from the Buffs on the QB front this upcoming season. "Deion Sanders and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur have been mum to this point on the ongoing quarterback battle between Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and true freshman Julian Lewis," Nakos wrote. "Salter is the more experienced of the two quarterbacks, playing in 30 career games. One source told On3 that they give the Liberty transfer the edge at this point to win the competition." While the senior Salter might be the frontrunner as we head into the final week of fall camp, Lewis is the future and still might have something to say about who starts Week 1. "[Salter's experience] does not mean Lewis is out of the picture," Nakos continued. "One source told On3 that it would not be surprised if Colorado employs some type of platoon situation with Lewis getting a few drives per game." The two-quarterback plan has been floated as an option during camp, and in theory, it makes sense, but it's often challenging to implement effectively. Although Salter seems likely to win the starting job, Lewis should see playing time at some point this year, regardless of whether the team adopts a two-quarterback system. The Buffaloes have just under two weeks to name a starting quarterback before they kick off their season against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on August 29 at 6 p.m. MT. Joey McGuire updates Texas Tech football's injury report as Red Raiders report for camp
The Texas Tech football team spent the offseason loading up on talent and depth through the transfer portal, which should help the Red Raiders as they begin preseason camp this week. During the team's local media day on Tuesday, Joey McGuire provided an updated injury report for a handful of Red Raiders who will be out of action for at least the first month, while a few others should return in the next week or two. Safety Chapman Lewis and linebacker Justin Horne are each coming off ACL injuries suffered last season. McGuire said each should be back around Oct. 15. The focus remains on utilizing a redshirt year for Lewis, who has been a mainstay in the secondary for Texas Tech in his first two years in Lubbock. More: Improved defense, transfer cohesion lead Texas Tech football stories to watch as camp opens More: Will Texas Tech football being bigger, more expensive make the Red Raiders better? | Giese Colorado transfer offensive lineman Cash Cleveland, who joined the team in the spring, will be out until early to mid-September. Defensive backs Macho Stevenson (shoulder) and Braylan McDonald (hamstring) should be back by the second or third game of the regular season. A few other players should be back before the season begins. Boston Celtics sign Ron Harper Jr. to training camp deal
As we edge closer to the start of the 2025-26 NBA season, teams are starting to prepare for training camp and preseason. This is the point in the summer when players begin to sign Exhibit 10 contracts, in the hopes of either earning a spot on a roster or being given a chance in the G League. Ron Harper Jr. is the Boston Celtics' first Exhibit 10 addition this summer. Harper Jr. will be entering his fourth NBA season, having originally signed with the Toronto Raptors as a rookie. He also spent some time with the Maine Celtics this past season, and will now get an opportunity to make an impression on Joe Mazzulla and his coaching staff throughout the summer. In total, Harper Jr. made 27 G League appearances this past season, split between the Motor City Cruise and Maine Celtics, where he averaged 18.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists, shooting 39% from deep on 8.9 attempts per outing. As the Celtics already have their two-way spots filled courtesy of Amari Williams, Max Shulga and RJ Luis, Harper Jr. will either make the main roster as the 15th and final member of the roster, or join the Maine Celtics in the hope of triggering a bonus should he stay with the team for 60 days. Of course, right now, his only focus will be on making a strong impression and working to improve his game.
