A Shocking Loss That Hits Close to Home
Hey, fellow K-drama fans, imagine scrolling through your feed and bam-news hits that one of those intense side characters from your binge-watch list is gone.
Song Young-gyu
, the 55-year-old actor who stole scenes in hits like 'Extreme Job' and 'Narco-Saints', was found collapsed in his car in Yongin, South Korea, early one morning. It's the kind of plot twist no one saw coming, and it's got us all reflecting on how fragile life can be, especially under the harsh glare of fame.
Reports say a friend discovered him around 8 AM in his townhouse parking area and alerted the authorities right away. Police are investigating, but initial signs point to a sudden health crisis. Adding to the tragedy, Song had been facing intense public scrutiny just before his passing, which amplified the emotional toll on everyone involved. His wife and two daughters are left to mourn this unexpected loss, highlighting the personal devastation behind the headlines. In the fast-paced world of entertainment, such incidents often leave a void that's hard to fill, with fans worldwide processing the shock through social media tributes and rewatches of his memorable roles.
The Storm Before the Silence: Recent Troubles
Now, let's not sugarcoat it-Song had been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons just weeks before. Last month, on July 19th, he got booked for drunk driving after boozing with pals in Yongin's Giheung district and driving about 5 km home to Cheoin-gu while tipsy. His blood alcohol level? Way over the limit, clocking in at license-revocation territory (0.08% or higher). That's a massive slip-up, especially for someone in the public eye. He was released without detention, but the fallout was brutal, with waves of negative media coverage and online backlash piling on.
Because of this, he had to drop out of his ongoing theater play 'Shakespeare in Love'. And get this-his roles in the dramas 'I Shopping' on ENA and 'Try: We Become Miracles' on SBS were already filmed, so producers are scrambling to edit out his parts as much as possible. A close aide shared with a sports daily that after the DUI reports, Song was tormented by nasty articles and vicious online comments. The surrounding vibes were just toxic, they said. It's a stark reminder of how cyberbullying can crush even the toughest spirits. The reality is these pressures build up fast in the industry, often leading to irreversible consequences for those caught in the storm.

Suneel Darshan on not replacing Priyanka Chopra in Barsaat after Akshay Kumar's exit amid personal turbulence: 'Shaadishuda aadmiyon ko zyada responsible hona chahiye'

Filmmaker Suneel Darshan , who is known for directing hit collaborations with Akshay Kumar in the early 2000s, has addressed the actor's sudden exit from his 2005 film Barsaat. While promoting Andaaz 2, Darshan recalled the behind-the-scenes turbulence and explained why he chose to retain Priyanka Chopra as the lead, even as Akshay backed out. 'There was a lot of turbulence in his personal life' Responding to whether Akshay was initially cast in Barsaat before being replaced by Bobby Deol , Suneel Darshan confirmed, 'Ab toh gaana YouTube pe hai. Maine Akshay aur Priyanka ka shoot... woh film shoot hui thi, I know. Haan, woh shoot hui thi film. Aur ek point aisa aaya ki uski personal life mein kaafi turbulence aa gayi thi.' Darshan said Akshay himself approached him with the request to exit the film. He told Bollywood Bubble, 'Usne mujhe poocha ki, 'Bhai, agar yeh mere bina ho sake, personal issues ki wajah se...' Toh main toh yeh maanta hoon ki actors ko bohot responsible hona chahiye, aur shaadishuda aadmiyon ko toh aur bhi zyada responsible hona chahiye.' Reflecting on how these personal choices affect a film's fate, he added, 'Lekin kya hota hai, galti karna insaan ki fitrat hoti hai — aur producer ko maar khana uski taqdeer mein hota hai.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 13 Celebrities Who Struggle With Mental Illness Undo 'I didn't want Priyanka to bear the burden' Despite the rumoured fallout between Akshay and Priyanka Chopra, Darshan chose not to replace the actress in the film. 'Yeh mera faisla tha, kyunki main chahta tha ki Priyanka Chopra ko us haadse ki responsibility ka onus na doon,' he said. 'Aur main sochta tha, bhai, jiska mere se gehra sambandh tha — jitna bhi tha — woh toh Akshay hi kehta tha ki 'main tujhe apna kya samajhta hoon'... Woh toh us waqt shayad kisi tape mein mil bhi jaaye.' 'Maine socha ki yeh hi better hai ki Priyanka ko continue karein, aur jisne mujhe option diya hai, usse replace karein.' Priyanka Chopra's Cryptic Post for Rekha Stuns Fans: 'Better Be A B*tch Than A Bichari' A professional split sparked by personal rumours? Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra had once been one of Bollywood's most bankable onscreen pairs, delivering hits like Andaaz, Aitraaz, and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. However, rumours of a romantic relationship between the two began circulating around the time of Barsaat, reportedly causing strain in Akshay's marriage with Twinkle Khanna . As per reports, Twinkle even considered divorce, prompting the actor to distance himself from Priyanka professionally. Their on-screen collaborations abruptly ceased following the incident. Over the years, Priyanka Chopra has largely remained silent on the matter. However, she has subtly acknowledged making the choice to step away to avoid causing tension in anyone's personal life. Most recently, in July 2025, while promoting her Hollywood film Heads of State, the actress briefly addressed her past professional dynamics, praising both Akshay Kumar and Tom Cruise for their action abilities, marking a rare mention of her former co-star.

BJD's Puri dist strike on Thurs to ‘demand justice' for 15-yr-old

1 2 Bhubaneswar: BJD on Monday called for a six-hour hartal in Puri on Thursday, demanding justice for the 15-year-old girl who died from burn injuries at AIIMS Delhi on Saturday. The party alleged she was murdered despite family members and police stating it was a case of self-immolation. "We will observe the strike from 6 am to 12 noon across Puri district," said Uma Samantaray, BJD's Puri district president, adding that emergency services will remain unaffected. The girl had claimed on July 19 that three unknown men set her on fire near her residence. Police sources said she later changed her statement before a magistrate at AIIMS Delhi, confessing to self-immolation. Following her death on Saturday, her father reiterated that she took her own life due to family-related stress. The family also urged that her death should not be politicised. BJD, however, alleged the police pressurised the girl and her family to call her death a suicide. "We still believe she was murdered. Mystery shrouds the circumstances leading to her father's claim that she killed herself. Police and govt must have applied pressure on the family. We want justice for her," Samantaray said. The govt rejected BJD's claims. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Beyond Text Generation: An AI Tool That Helps You Write Better Grammarly Install Now Undo "The opposition should not politicise the tragedy. Let the police complete their investigation. Truth will come out," deputy chief minister Pravati Parida said after attending the victim's burial at her native place on Monday. Parida assured govt support for the bereaved family. "The govt put in its best efforts to save her. She was airlifted to AIIMS Delhi where the best team of doctors treated her. Unfortunately, she could not be saved. The family is very poor. Our govt will provide all necessary support and assistance to the family," she added. Responding to the opposition demands for her resignation, Parida stated, "If my resignation helps to bring the girl back to life, I am ready to quit 100 times. The opposition should know that our govt ensures quick and expeditious action against perpetrators. Justice and action had vanished during their rule."

After 50 C-sections in 10 years, doc with fake degree lands in cop net

1 2 Guwahati/Silchar: A fake doctor, who performed atleast 50 C-section and gynaecological surgeries over a decade at two private hospitals in Silchar , has finally landed in police net after being caught in the act. The accused, Pulok Malakar, was produced before a local court on Monday, which remanded him in five-day police custody. He was arrested a day earlier. Malakar, claimed to possess an MBBS degree and a CDM Pune qualification. CDM Pune refers to a certificate in disaster management course offered through distance and open learning. Malakar is the 50th fake doctor caught in the state under an initiative of one Dr Abhijit Neog, who is now the vigilance officer of the anti-quackery cell under the Assam Council of Medical Registration. While fake doctors have been caught from various parts of the state over the years, including the capital Guwahati, the arrest of Malakar was the first case where a fake doctor was apprehended for conducting major surgeries. The quack was nabbed while performing a caesarean section at a private hospital in Silchar. The accused is from Badrpurghat in Sribhumi district and reportedly masqueraded as a qualified medical practitioner for an extended period at the hospital. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo He allegedly conducted surgeries and offered various treatments at the autonomous charitable hospital from where he was arrested. "From a reliable source, our cell got the information that he was performing a surgery at the hospital," Dr Neog told TOI on Monday. Prior to the arrest, a zero FIR was lodged by Dr Neog on July 30 at the CID police station in Guwahati. He said prior to lodging the FIR, the anti-quackery cell, after investigation, found that Malakar did not have any medical qualification. "He does not have a valid registration number as a doctor. CDM is a six-month correspondence course offered by IGNOU and has nothing to do with medical science," Dr Neog added. Police sources revealed that Malakar submitted certificates claiming to have medical qualifications from the Odisha Council of Medical Registration and Utkal University. However, preliminary verification suggests that the documents were dubious and not legally tenable. Officials said the conditions of the patients operated on by Malakar will be examined following the seizure of hospital records. Sources said while tea gardens, semi-urban, and rural areas are vulnerable to the menace of fake doctors, the recent arrest of several quacks from Guwahati raised concern among the patients in the state capital as well. It may be noted that the hospital from where Malakar was nabbed on Sunday evening was founded in 1931, one of the oldest in Silchar. This hospital has a long-standing reputation for serving the poor and underprivileged in the northeast, especially women and children. The exposure of such a serious lapse has dented the hospital's credibility and raised questions about oversight and verification protocols, officials said.
