BJP cites criminal case to target PK

Time of India5 days ago
Patna: The BJP on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor (PK), who has allegedly threatened to expose a big state BJP leader at a press conference in Patna on Friday when Union home minister Amit Shah will be in Bihar to lay the foundation stone for a grand Mata Sita temple at Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi.
Calling him a "hypocrite", in charge of Bihar BJP media cell, Danish Iqbal, alleged that PK is himself accused of serious criminal charges in a case lodged at Patliputra police station of Patna.
Iqbal said the man, who constantly lectures others on morality, is himself embroiled in serious criminal charges under IPC sections 467, 468, 471, 420, 406 and 120B, related to forgery, fraud and criminal conspiracy.
Such politicians should stop pretending to be the moral guardians of society, Iqbal added, accusing PK of treating politics as a business.
"Today, Bihar is progressing on the path of development. Its people will no longer be misled by such deceptive figures," he said.
Rural works minister Ashok Choudhary also targeted PK during an interview with a news portal. The JD(U) leader said PK alleges that his daughter Shambhavi Choudhary "bought" a LJP(RV) ticket to contest the Lok Sabha election, but he calls the party chief Chirag Paswan a good leader. Choudhary has filed a defamation case against PK, who had earlier raised questions on BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal regarding a medical college in Kishanganj.

Lok Sabha passes Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill by voice vote

New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) The Lok Sabha today passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025 by voice vote. The Bill aims to ensure the benefits of the mining sector reach the common people, introduce transparency in the allocation of mines and promote development in the sector. While presenting the bill in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy, said the proposed amendments aim to boost employment opportunities and ensure that tribals and those linked to the mining sector directly benefit from the reforms. He pointed out that prior to the Modi government, mine allocations were done with minimal oversight, allowing mafia groups to dominate the sector. This led to the Supreme Court cancelling 104 mine allocations due to corruption. He emphasised that the scenario has now significantly improved. Reddy also mentioned that the mining sector was once controlled by politically influential individuals and marred by exploitation. In contrast, he said, the current environment fosters development, with common citizens now seeing real benefits. Taking a dig at the Opposition members who were protesting the bill, he said that their opposition stems from a lack of faith in the people. Earlier, during the debate, BJP MP Malavika Devi highlighted that mine allocations were previously handled in an unethical manner, but reforms have changed that. She said the bill would help uplift the poor and improve the nation's global standing by ensuring transparency in mining. BJP's Brijmohan Agrawal called the legislation a key step towards the development of tribal regions, stating that it would benefit marginalized communities. CM Gurumoorthy Maddila of the YSR Congress and G Lakshminarayan from the Telugu Desam Party also took part in the discussion. Fatehpur incident: AAP seeks probe by ex-HC judge

Lucknow: The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded that the Fatehpur incident be investigated by an inquiry committee under a former high court judge. Calling for strict action against those guilty and also officials who allowed this to take place, AAP accused BJP of spreading fanaticism and religious hatred. AAP's Imran Latif described the incident as an example of UP's deteriorating law and order. "BJP's Fatehpur district president announced on Aug 11 that Hindu organisations would perform rituals at the tomb, but administration and police did not intervene. For over half an hour, chaos prevailed at the site in presence of police force, and officials remained silent spectators. It shows the incident occurred under govt protection," he said. tnn AAP's outgoing state general secretary Dinesh Patel said that BJP has used such tactics to divert attention from serious issues like SIR, school closures, and mergers by spreading religious frenzy from time to time. He claimed that the local intelligence units had prior information about the incident, yet the administration did not prevent it.
