Nicole Kidman Discusses ‘The Most Intimate Things' With Her Teenage Daughters: ‘I Get to Be Their Guide'

Yahoo24-05-2025

Nicole Kidman said she's 'very close' with her teenage daughters and wants to keep it that way.
The Nine Perfect Strangers star divulged details about her marriage to Keith Urban and relationship with their daughters, Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 14, in an interview with Allure published on Thursday, May 22.
'I do, actually [like who I am as a mother]. Yeah. I'm very close to both my girls,' Kidman, 57, said when asked about parenthood. (Kidman also has two grown children, Isabella, 32, and Connor, 30, from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.)
'I sit on their beds and discuss the most intimate things; I get to be their guide,' she continued. 'If they want to tell me to be quiet, they can. I'm able to apologize to them. I'm able to stand up to them. I very much like the relationship we have. It's nice to be able to say that.'

Kidman, who said she'd be a teacher if she weren't an actress, added that she's perhaps an 'over-giver' who will always prioritize her children.
'I grew up with a very strong connection to taking care of my mother and my family and being the oldest child. Put the oxygen mask on yourself first, right? Right. It sounds good in theory, but it doesn't make sense to me when you have kids. I will do anything in terms of sacrifice. I want them to feel completely loved, completely prioritized.'
Kidman was very close with her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, who died in September 2024 at age 84. The Babygirl star was set to receive the best actress prize at the Venice Film Festival when she received the news of her mom's death. "I'm in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her,' Kidman said in a statement at the time. 'She shaped me, she guided me and she made me. I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina [Reijn, Babygirl director]. The collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken."

She told Allure, 'Losing my mother changed every part of me. I spoke to her every second or third day. And because she was on the other side of the world, if I woke up at 5 a.m., I'd get up, I'd walk around the block and I'd talk to her for an hour before the girls got up, before Keith got up. That was the rhythm of my day.'
Kidman said she's still dealing with the loss.
'I'm so raw with it,' she continued. 'I feel embarrassed because I feel like, 'Oh, you've talked about it enough.' So I have to keep saying to myself, 'It's OK. Maybe it's my sense of what I feel I should be doing.' I'm trying to be quiet and have it be a more intimate thing with just my friends or my sister. The love was so profound that the loss of it … I'm on the journey of grief, the year of magical thinking.'

Ryan Lochte's wife Kayla reveals ‘painful' divorce after seven years of marriage

Ryan Lochte's wife Kayla Rae Reid has filed for divorce, the model shared in an Instagram post on Wednesday. The former Playboy model explained that it was her decision to end their marriage of seven years, calling it 'one of the most painful' seasons of her life. 'Earlier this year, I made the hard decision to end my marriage after deep prayer and reflection,' Reid wrote, including an image of her sitting outside. 'I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons of my life. I've been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing — not from fresh, open wounds. Advertisement 'Sometimes we face trials we didn't choose or see coming. And in those moments, we're forced to make the hardest decisions to protect our peace, our children, and our future. I've come to the understanding that staying isn't always the most loving decision someone can make. For me, leaving was an act of love — for those around me and for myself. 'Living with transparency and authenticity has been how I have grown into the person I am today, and I'll continue to do so — while also protecting the parts of this journey that are private and unfolding in uncharted territory.' Stanley Cup Final MVP Odds: Connor McDavid To Win Conn Smythe Trophy?

Edmonton star Connor McDavid is the odds-on favorite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy for the second time in as many years. Edmonton star Connor McDavid is the odds-on favorite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy for the second time in as many years. Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. It will come as no surprise to hockey fans that Edmonton star Connor McDavid is favored to win the 2025 Conn Smythe Trophy, which is given annually to the MVP of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After all, McDavid won the award a year ago despite Florida beating Edmonton for the Stanley Cup trophy in seven games. He became the sixth player in NHL history to win the Conn Smythe Trophy while playing for a team that did not capture the Stanley Cup. After a seven-game marathon between the Panthers and Oilers a year ago, Edmonton -- which has home ice after having to play last year's series-deciding Game 7 on the road -- is the slight betting favorite this year. Conn Smythe Trophy Odds: McDavid Favored DK FD bet365 Connor McDavid +110 -105 +100 Sergei Bobrovsky +250 +280 +260 Aleksander Barkov +550 +600 +550 Leon Draisaitl +750 +800 +750 Matthew Tkachuk +2500 +2600 +2500 Sam Bennett +3000 +2600 +2800 Stuart Skinner +5000 +4900 +3300 Conn Smythe Trophy Betting Analysis, Picks The case for McDavid is self-explanatory. Unless you don't give Edmonton a real chance to win this series, he's a solid bet right now, especially at +110 at DraftKings. Best* Conn Smythe Bet: Connor McDavid (+110 at DraftKings) *We should probably call McDavid the "safest" Conn Smythe bet instead of the "best" one given how obvious it is, but either way, that's our first recommendation here. As we saw in this matchup last year, anything can happen when the Panthers and Oilers get together, but the opportunity to take McDavid at plus-money is hard to pass up -- have we mentioned that he won the award last year despite his team losing the series? There are several other intriguing options, though. The fact that McDavid is just one of four players whose pre-Stanley Cup Final Conn Smythe odds are 8-to-1 or shorter across the board shows that he's no lock. If Florida wins the Stanley Cup, the odds indicate that either goalie Sergei Bobrovsky or Aleksander Barkov -- who just earned his second straight Selke Trophy (best defensive forward) -- will probably win the Conn Smythe Trophy. But between McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and its underrated supporting cast, Edmonton just has too much firepower for me to recommend Bobrovsky, especially at shorter than 3-to-1 odds. On the Florida side, Sam Bennett -- who enters the Stanley Cup Final as the NHL playoff leader with 10 goals -- tands out to me as the best value bet to win this award at +3000 at DraftKings. The Panthers' balance makes it hard to predict who will score the goals for them. Still, it's hard to deny that Bennett -- who has scored almost as any playoff goals as his team's second and third-leading scorers combined (Barkov and Carter Verhaeghe have both scored six goals) -- offers incredible upside at 30-to-1 (DK) to win the Conn Smythe. Best Conn Smythe Longshot Bet: Stuart Skinner (+5000 at DK) If there's a non-McDavid Oiler worth backing to win the Conn Smythe Trophy, it might be 26-year-old goalie Stuart Skinner. There's some value here based on line-shopping, if nothing else, as bet365 lists Skinner at just +3300 as of June 4. He's had an up-and-down playoffs. He was benched after two rough outings vs. the Kings to start the playoffs. But after his backup, Calvin Pickard, got injured in the second round, Skinner was solid in his return to action against both Vegas in the conference semis and Dallas in the conference finals, with three shutouts in his last seven games. Skinner also boasts an impressive save percentage (.944) and goals-against average (1.41) in his last seven appearances. If he can stay hot in a low-scoring series win over a Florida team that has reached back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals, he could absolutely steal some Conn Smythe votes, if not the trophy itself, from McDavid. Marisa Abela and Harris Dickinson star in Audible Pride And Prejudice adaption

Marisa Abela and Harris Dickinson are to star in an Audible audiobook adaption of Jane Austen's Pride And Prejudice. Bafta winner Abela, who stars in BBC Two drama Industry, will play romantic heroine Elizabeth Bennet, while Babygirl actor Dickinson will play her suitor Mr Darcy in the production, which will be released on September 9. Abela, 28, said of her role: 'Elizabeth Bennet is one of the most fiercely intelligent and iconic characters in literature, and stepping into her shoes has been an incredible honour. 'What I love about this adaptation is how it lets us hear her inner world in such a vivid, intimate way — it feels both timeless and fresh. 'Recording this with such a phenomenal cast and team was a true joy, and I can't wait for listeners to experience it.' The audiobook will also star Will Poulter as Mr Wickham, Jessie Buckley as Caroline Bingley and Bill Nighy as Mr Bennet. Dickinson, 28, added: 'Playing Mr Darcy was an amazing experience. I've always known him as this iconic character, but getting to really dive into the novel through this process gave me a whole new appreciation for him and the world. 'Being part of such a talented cast made it even better. It's a real privilege to be part of something so timeless.' The rest of the cast includes Glenn Close, who will be taking on the role of Lady Catherine De Bourgh, Marianne Jean-Baptiste as Mrs Bennet and David Gyasi as Mr Gardiner. Pride And Prejudice will be released in English, Castilian Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese, with each version featuring a local cast. Aurelie de Troyer, head of regional content for Europe at Audible, said: 'It's remarkable how Pride And Prejudice has stood the test of time globally to be one of every generation's favourite love stories. 'Lulu Raczka's script is thrilling and conveys all of Jane Austen's energy in an engaging, modern way. 'Through the intimacy of audio, we have the unique ability to make the passion and romance truly electric and Marisa Abela and Harris Dickinson's chemistry as Elizabeth and Darcy is undeniable.' Audible says the new version is 'faithful to the original text', and features 'a unique interior perspective from Elizabeth'. The original novel was published by Austen in 1813, and has been adapted a number of times for film, television and theatre. Arguably the best known of these is the 1995 BBC TV version starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. A 2005 film adaptation starred Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. In April, Netflix announced that Olivia Colman, Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden would star in a Pride And Prejudice series on the streaming platform.
