Why a $155 Kmart designer buy is proving to be the 'best deal' the store's ever offered

Why a $155 Kmart designer buy is proving to be the 'best deal' the store's ever offered

Daily Mail02-05-2025

Kmart has dropped its 'IT' chair in a new walnut colourway - and designer enthusiasts can't get enough of it.
The $155 Asker Lounge Chair won plenty of fans when it was released as a cream boucle piece, with a clean sweep of five star reviews.
So when the new edition appeared in stores this week, eagle-eyed home decorators were quick to pounce.
Heavily inspired by the trendy scoop armchairs flooding 'interior inspo' feeds of late, the Asker Lounge Chair adds a refined elegance to any living space, reading nook or bedroom corner.
Designed with plush polyester-covered cushioning, it also features a high backrest, a plywood and steal frame and curved edges that provide an ergonomic seating experience.
It comes in pieces, though a list of simple instructions is provided to make assembly a breeze; it's ideal for anyone looking for stylish seating without the hassle.
It mirrors designer versions so closely, the Kmart lounger could be mistaken for the popular AUD$1,200 Scoop Armchair from Atkin & Thyme or the $300 Remy Accent Chair from Cooper & Co.
The boucle cream version has been compared to the sleek Lennox Arm Chair from South Coast Furnishings, though the latter will set you back a cool $850.
'Every time someone walks into my living room they just can't stop admiring the chair! Must buy if you love white furniture as much as I do,' a shopper said of the earlier version.
'Best purchase in Kmart,' raved another.
'Easy to put together and looks amazing!'
The range of dupes have been talk of the town of late, with an insider leaking a list of all the designer perfume 'inspirations' available at the store, earlier this week.
Fans of Daisy by Marc Jacobs ($165 for 100mL) can pick up Fresh Meadow at Kmart for just $8 - while not an exact match, it's described as a brighter, fresher take on the cult classic.
Other dupes include Oddity, which mirrors Paradoxe by Prada, and Noir Night ($6 to $12) for fans of Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent ($285).
Also among the most exciting finds is In the Clouds, which retails for just $6 as a body mist and $12 as a perfume.
It's said to smell almost identical to Ariana Grande's Thank U Next - a scent that normally sells for $70 in Australia.
With cost-of-living pressures hitting Australians hard, a $6 perfume that smells like a $150 designer bottle is an irresistible deal.
Others love the idea of being able to spritz themselves liberally throughout the day without worrying about wasting expensive fragrance.
Whatever the reason, Kmart's perfume aisle is becoming the hottest spot for beauty lovers in the know - but with many of these dupes flying off the shelves, you'll have to be quick to snag one.

The best looks from Ladies Day at Royal Ascot

It's the race day where fashion takes centre stage, and the real competition is between outfits in the stands. Royal Ascot's dress code is always high stakes — but the looks on Ladies Day up the ante. This is where some of the most traffic-stopping ensembles of the British event season are on display. More is more when it comes to style. One racegoer The Times spotted accessorised her look with fuchsia opera gloves, vintage fan and matching watering can-shaped handbag. 'Ladies Day is always such a highlight; it's the perfect occasion to embrace statement dressing,' says Daisy Knatchbull, whose namesake brand and signature tailoring are an Ascot favourite. 'I've been loving seeing people embrace brave, bold colours and prints — there's a real sense of confidence in style this year. I'm wearing a custom Knatchbull suit this year. I love the clean sharp lines of a well-tailored dress or trouser suit complimented by a beautiful soft feminine hat. It's honestly hard to find anything not to love; seeing the British public dress up and celebrate fashion in such a joyful way is what makes Ladies Day so special.' • Read more fashion advice and style inspiration from our experts The horses may need more than their blinders to miss the headwear. Awon Golding, head designer of the luxury milliner Lock & Co, tells me that this year the hat choices have been bolder than ever. 'Colour abounds! The sunshine has brought out a rainbow of hues, with pink winning in the style stakes,' she reports from the Berkshire racecourse. 'I've also noticed a lot of ostrich feathers and women in top hats. I think this shape is really having a millinery resurgence, with added feminine trimmings like veiling and flowers.'
