Lady Vols softball wins 2025 Knoxville Regional
No. 7 national seed Tennessee (43-14) defeated Ohio State (45-13-1), 5-0, Sunday in the Knoxville Regional of the 2025 NCAA Tournament at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
With the victory, Tennessee reaches the NCAA Super Regionals for the 14th time in program history. Tennessee will host a super regional.
The Lady Vols led, 2-0, in the sixth inning after catcher Sophia Nugent hit a two-run home run. Saviya Morgan also scored on the play after she reached on an error by the Buckeyes. Laura Mealer followed with a scoring double, extending a lead to 3-0.
The Lady Vols scored two runs in the seventh inning after Gabby Leach hit a solo home run and Morgan produced a RBI single.
Morgan went 2-for-4, recording one double, one RBI and one run. Mealer went 2-for-3 and totaled one double and one RBI.
Sophomore pitcher Sage Mardjetko (12-2) started for the Lady Vols. She pitched five innings, allowing two hits and two walks. Mardjetko recorded five strikeouts. She totaled 92 pitches, including 60 strikes.
Karlyn Pickens recorded her third save of the season. She pitched two innings and recorded five strikeouts. Pickens totaled 24 pitches including 19 strikes.
NCAA Tournament Super Regionals are scheduled for Thursday-Sunday.
The 2025 Women's College World Series will be contested May 29-June 6 at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Tennessee guard Jahmai Mashack reveals mindset in NBA draft workouts Jahmai Mashack established himself as a tremendous defender, and the former Tennessee guard is looking to showcase that ability and more in predraft workouts. Mashack was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team, averaging six points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.5 assists on 35.1% shooting from 3-point range in 38 games. He scored in double figures six times, including a season-high 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists on March 14. The 6-foot-5 standout completed his ninth team workout on Tuesday. He wants to demonstrate his overall skill set and ability, with a particular emphasis on his offensive capabilities. "My ability to catch and shoot, and my ability to play out of closeouts," Mashack said after working out with the Portland Trail Blazers. "The NBA is really going toward a closeout league where you've got to be able to shoot, pass or drive the ball effectively in point-five seconds. To be able to show that consistently and know I'm a good decision-maker when I get paint touches." Mashack was a Naismith Defensive Player of the Year finalist, ranking second in the country in defensive box plus-minus last season (plus-seven). He was one of 14 players, including one of six in a power conference, to record at least 60 steals (64) and 20 blocked shots (20). The 22-year-old competed in the G League Elite Camp last month, averaging five points, two steals, 1.5 rebounds and one assist in two scrimmage games. He also registered a 6-foot, 7 3/4-inch wingspan in the anthropometric measurement testing. Mashack isn't projected to be drafted, though he believes he has had some solid performances during his prior workouts. He is looking to finish the predraft process strong and secure a spot with the right team in the draft on June 25-26 in Brooklyn, New York. "I want to find the best fit possible, and I feel like there are a lot of NBA teams that like and enjoy the way that I play," Mashack said. "I want to just be with (a team) that is going to value that and cherish that and grow that as I try to become the best player I can be."

CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz reported the Volunteers hired defensive assistant coach Marion Hobby. Advertisement An ex-Tennessee first-team All-SEC player, Hobby will serve as a defensive analyst for the Volunteers. "Hobby, a former All-SEC player at Tennessee, has coached in four NFL conference championship games (Saints, Jaguars, Bengals 2x) and a Super Bowl," Zenitz posted on X. "Hobby was also part of Clemson's 2016 national championship team." Hobby spent the past four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals as their defensive line coach. The longtime assist had been an NFL defensive line coach since 2017. From 2017-18, he coached the Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line. Before joining the Bengals, Hobby coached for the Miami Dolphins from 2019-20. The defensive end began his coaching career as a strength and conditioning coach for the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks in 1995. Hobby was an assistant strength and conditioning coach with Tennessee's 1998 national championship team. He received his first opportunity to coach a defensive line unit with the Ole Miss Rebels in 1999. Hobby coached at Ole Miss for five years and then spent one season with the Clemson Tigers before jumping to the NFL with the New Orleans Saints. After two seasons with the Saints, Hobby returned to the college ranks with the Duke Blue Devils. He then became co-defensive coordinator at Clemson from 2011-16 before going back to the NFL.
