Pregnant Phoebe Waller-Bridge spotted with notes amid Tomb Raider delay

Express Tribune4 days ago
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the award-winning creator of Fleabag and co-writer of the James Bond film No Time To Die, has sparked speculation about a possible new project after being spotted in north London carrying a folder of notes.
The 40-year-old actress and writer, dressed casually in denim dungarees and a striped T-shirt, was photographed with the folder tucked under her arm — prompting speculation she may be developing a fresh script.
Waller-Bridge signed a landmark $100 million five-year deal with Amazon Studios in 2019 after a bidding war between major Hollywood studios. However, her highly anticipated Tomb Raider TV reboot has reportedly stalled, with industry sources describing the project as 'dead.' Plans for filming in early 2025 have yet to materialize, and the recent departure of Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke — the executive who secured Waller-Bridge's deal — may have further complicated the show's future.
Sophie Turner, previously rumored to be in talks for the role of Lara Croft, is committed to other projects this year.
Beyond Tomb Raider, Waller-Bridge was originally attached to the Mr. & Mrs. Smith TV adaptation but departed in 2021, with her contributions removed from the final version. She has since taken on select acting roles, including Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and the upcoming fantasy film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey alongside Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell.
Waller-Bridge has been in a relationship with playwright and filmmaker Martin McDonagh since 2017 and has described their creative partnership as mutually inspiring.

Is Tom Holland about to be the next James Bond?

Tom Holland is playing it cool as the internet swirls with speculation over who will take up the mantle of James Bond. The British actor addressed the persistent rumours in a recent appearance on Gordon Ramsay's YouTube channel, where he coyly acknowledged the buzz but stopped short of any confirmation. 'Listen, there's speculation at the minute. We'll keep it to a minimum for now,' he said, flashing a grin. 'We'll get there one day.' His remarks have only intensified chatter that he might be in line to succeed Daniel Craig as the legendary 007 in the upcoming reboot directed by Denis Villeneuve. Holland, who just teased his return as Spider-Man in Brand New Day, called the Bond role 'the pinnacle' for any young British actor. 'I already consider myself to be the luckiest kid alive. I could never have dreamed to have the career that I've had,' he added, offering humility while remaining tantalisingly vague. Daniel Craig's departure in No Time to Die left the field open, and names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jacob Elordi, and now Holland have surfaced in the fan conversation. Meanwhile, Amazon MGM Studios has begun assembling the next Bond chapter, with Steven Knight writing the script and Amy Pascal and David Heyman producing. Online reaction has been divided. Some fans are thrilled by the idea of Holland in a tuxedo, while others argue that the role demands more gravitas and maturity. Critics claim Holland still has a 'babyface' and lacks the brooding edge of his predecessors. Regardless of whether he lands the role, Holland's name in the Bond mix has added a new level of intrigue to the franchise's future. For now, the next Bond remains a mystery, and Holland is clearly enjoying keeping fans guessing.

'Peaky Blinders' creator to write 007 reboot

Steven Knight, the creator of gritty TV crime series Peaky Blinders, will write the highly anticipated next James Bond movie, studio Amazon MGM announced Thursday. Knight will work alongside previously announced director Denis Villeneuve (Dune) to bring the world's most famous fictional spy back to the big screen after a prolonged absence. Amazon MGM Studios acquired creative control of the 007 movies in February, and has moved quickly to get one of Hollywood's most valuable franchises back into production. There has been no new Bond film since 2021's No Time To Die. Knight is best known as the mind behind violent British gangster series Peaky Blinders, which was set in industrial England at the turn of the 20th century and became a global hit. Running for six seasons, and with a Netflix film version currently in the works, Peaky Blinders turbo-charged the careers of leading man Cillian Murphy, alongside a stellar supporting cast including Tom Hardy, Anya Taylor-Joy and Kingsley Ben-Adir. In addition to Peaky Blinders, Knight also co-created the wildly popular television quiz show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and has penned four novels. The Birmingham, England-based screenwriter, producer and director's other TV credits include Taboo, See, This Town, and All the Light We Cannot See. The Bond films, based on Ian Fleming's novels, have earned more than USD7 billion collectively at the global box office since debuting in 1962. No release date or title has yet been set for the film franchise's 26th instalment. And despite frenzied speculation among fans, there has been no announcement on which actor will replace Daniel Craig as the suave British super-spy. Among the actors most discussed to be the next Bond are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Holland, Harris Dickinson, Jacob Elordi, and Ben-Adir - but Amazon MGM has so far refused to disclose the franchise's most closely guarded secret.
