Russell Martin breaks silence on Jayden Meghoma transfer and Jefte's big money Rangers exit
Russell Martin hopes Rangers will finalise a loan swoop for 'top talent' Jayden Meghoma after admitting Jefte is close to a big money move out now Ibrox.
Brentford teen Meghoma is expected to complete a move to Govan to help solve the problem left back area with Jefte set to join Palmeiras in a £6m deal.
Martin, who watched his side huff and puff to a 4-2 Premier Sports Cup win over Alloa, handed the England U-19 international his first team debut at Southampton before he moved to Brentford for £5m last summer.
Meghoma made four appearances for Brentford before moving on loan to Preston in January. Now he looks set for Ibrox.
And Martin said: "Jefte was in yesterday (Friday), and then by yesterday evening, he's maybe not going to be here moving forward because it's a good deal for him and the club.
'So we'll see what happens over the next couple of days with that. We have to be ready to replace him, and we always have been ready.
'So Jayden, a player we know from Southampton, spent a year with us as a young boy, training every day, understands the work, top talent, plays for England at all the youth levels.
'Brentford signed him for a lot of money for a teenager, and he went on loan last year in the Championship did really well.
'So he's a player we know and like, and hopefully at some point he'll be a Rangers player and you'll know that when he is.'
Gers were made to sweat by the part-timers before finally sealing a 4-2 win and progression into the Premier Sports Cup quarter final with Findlay Curtis' 90th minute strike
Martin sent out an experimental side ahead of Tuesday's Champions League blockbuster against Club Brugge with Mikey Moore handed a debut.
But they were made to wait to the 90th minute to secure the win as goals from Nedim Bajrami, Manny Fernandez, James Tavernier's penalty and Findlay Curtis' late strike barely camouflaged another afternoon where Martin's men toiled.
Martin handed a competitive debut off the bench to Thelo Aasgaard while Hamza Igamane also returned from injury as a second half sub and impressed.
Martin said Tuesday would be too soon to start either. On Igamane, Martin added: 'I really liked Hamza's energy when he came on. He can do things that other players can't.
'Sometimes he looks a bit mad - like when he tries to nutmeg the boy.
'So if we can get him to make decisions a bit more consistently, I think he'll really help us.
'He wants to express himself, he wants to play. There's never a problem making a mistake as long as the reaction is really, really good.
'And that's the one thing I'd say today. After a couple of wobbly moments, the guys really reacted well.'

Ex-Premier League boss already fearing for his future just THREE games into new season after shocking start
RUBEN SELLES confessed Sheffield United fans may already feel it's time he 'f***ed off' after just three games. After starting his reign with three successive defeats, the Spaniard is already the most under-pressure manager in the Championship. 2 2 Selles watched his team fail to muster a single shot on target as Ronald scored the winner for Swansea. It means after a 4-1 thrashing by Bristol City and exit from the Carabao Cup at the hands of Birmingham, the Blades boss is facing an early-season crisis. Selles, 42, said: 'We know how it works and I can ask the fans to be calm. But they are going to tell me, probably, to 'f*** off'. 'But we are going to be honest, we are going to work hard, we are going to persist in what we do, and we are going to give it 100 per cent. 'And at some point the situation will turn and we'll start to win matches.' In fairness, Selles has hardly had time to add tapas to the training game menu but on the field it looks like he is blending all the wrong flavours. His team lacked any kind of goal threat. Cristiano Ronaldo's trademark 'Siu' celebration. Swansea gaffer Alan Sheehan said: 'I'm really pleased. 'The only critical thing we can say, again, is not being more clinical and putting the game to bed.'

Mikey Moore on the Rangers night that left him 'fuming'
Watching on TV from home, he saw exactly what he was missing out on when he saw and heard that famous atmosphere under the lights on a European night. And to prove he was not mistaken, his teammates all told him it was one of the best they had ever played in. When the opportunity arose to head to Rangers on loan, that was still at the forefront of his mind. Speaking after making his debut in the cup win over Alloa Athletic, he said: "At the time I was out for a bit, so I couldn't come up (with Spurs), but I was watching on the TV and I was fuming that I couldn't. 'When they came back, the lads said it was one of the best atmospheres they've ever played in. 'When I heard about Rangers, that came straight into my mind. I remembered all the good things the boys said, so, I can't wait to play in that sort of atmosphere.' The legendary former goalscorer played for both clubs and was also Moore's coach in the Tottenham youth ranks. Moore added: "Obviously I spoke to Jermaine Defoe, being my coach at Tottenham and I'm really close to him now. 'I spoke to him about the club and he didn't say a bad word about it. 'He said 'it's an unbelievable place' and he said 'if you've got a chance to go there, then take it'. What a player. What a guy as well. 'I was a bit younger (when he was at Rangers), but I know that he was an unbelievable finisher as a striker and the fans loved him up here and he said he loved his time up here. 'I think he wishes he could have played here longer.'
