Netflix uses AI to speed up movie production and launch new features

Time of India6 days ago
Netflix is now using AI in making movies and TV shows, the company said on Thursday. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos shared this news during Netflix's earnings conference call. He said Netflix used AI in an Argentine show called 'El Atonata' to create a scene where a building falls down.
That building scene was finished 10 times faster and also cost less using AI than normal VFX tools. Sarandos said AI is not replacing humans, but helping real creators work faster and better. He said tools like pre-visualization, shot planning, and visual effects are all getting easier with AI.

US President Donald Trump rolls out AI action plan aimed at overtaking China

US President Donald Trump has rolled out its AI action plan that features over 90 policy actions to accelerate the US' dominance in AI. The detailed roadmap enumerates AI infrastructure, regulation, and export policy. It seems to have been shaped by over 10,000 public comments. The document officially titled 'Winning the AI Race: America's AI Action Plan' was published by the White House on Wednesday, July 23. It follows US President Donald Trump's executive order in January on 'removing barriers to American leadership in AI. 'Winning the AI race will bring in a new golden age of human flourishing, economic competitiveness, and national security for the American people,' the official release read. Winning the global AI race The roadmap underscores AI as a national security imperative and an economic catalyst. With this, the US aims to secure an unchallenged dominance in AI and outpace its adversaries, namely China. The US wants to reshape global standards and set in motion an industrial and information revolution. The AI action plan primarily looks to accelerate AI innovation. With this, the Trump administration aims to deregulate the AI industry, essentially removing hurdles imposed by the Biden era. This would mean tech companies can now avoid burdensome red tape. The plan will incentivise research and development by the private sector, support open-source AI, and allow fast-track experimentation. The plan also advocates the adage that AI is to complement and not replace labour. At a time when automation is one of the main causes for job cuts in the US, the AI roadmap aims to foster AI skill training in schools and apprenticeship programmes. It also proposes tax benefits for employees investing in AI literacy, along with rapid training for displaced workers. Besides, it also proposes a new 'AI Workforce Research Hub'. An extension to Trump's longstanding promise of bringing jobs back to America, the new plan also shows how his administration plans to rebuild US manufacturing for the AI era. The plan also emphasises heavy investments in robotics, autonomous systems, and defence manufacturing. With massive investments in AI, supply chains are likely to be disrupted, and cash-strapped small tech businesses would be in need of funding. The new AI action plan assures federal support to ensure this supply chain resilience and that small businesses are adequately supported. The roadmap also wants science in the US to be AI-first, and for this the government plans to build automated labs and fund AI-driven discovery in biology, chemistry, and materials. The plan also includes releasing large, open-access scientific datasets, such as those on genome sequencing on federal lands. The US government also wants to upgrade defence with AI. According to the plan, AI adoption will be fast-traced in federal agencies and the military. Meeting the computing needs of AI AI requires massive computing prowess, which in turn needs massive amounts of energy. In order to meet AI's ever-increasing compute needs, the plan proposes fast-tracking permits for data centres, chip fabs, and energy projects. In this direction, the administration also plans on expanding nuclear and geothermal energy generation. Along with energy needs, the roadmap has also listed security as core to the plan. According to the document, the US plans to tighten semiconductor controls and its exports monitoring, especially to keep a check on Chinese access. Besides, the government agencies will also be working with industry to protect IP. To combat deepfakes, new legal standards will be established. In a bid to counter China's rise, the US plans to lead its diplomatic outreach by exporting the American AI stack to allies. It will also be opposing Chinese influence in AI governance bodies and push for AI export control alignment with allies.

OnePlus Buds 4 review: Big on Noise Cancellation

Rating: 3.5/5 OnePlus Buds 4 has officially launched in India with a price tag of Rs 5,999. With the new earbuds, OnePlus continues its push in the budget-to-mid-range audio segment where it has steadily built a reputation over the years. The brand's earlier wireless earbuds, especially the OnePlus Buds 3 were seen as reliable options for those looking for good sound quality, decent battery life, and useful features — all without spending too much. In many ways, OnePlus managed to offer a balance between price and performance, making its earbuds a popular choice for users who wanted something better than the bare minimum but didn't want to spend a fortune. The Buds 4 arrives at a time when the competition in this price segment has only grown stronger. Brands like Realme, Oppo, and even Boat are offering feature-packed earbuds in the sub-Rs 6,000 category, with ANC, app support, and longer battery life becoming common. So naturally, the question arises — does the OnePlus Buds 4 do enough to stand out in 2025? With a familiar yet slightly updated design, support for active noise cancellation, and some new features, the Buds 4 tries to maintain OnePlus' usual formula. But as expectations continue to grow and users look for more value, the Buds 4 aims to deliver beyond brand recognition. Do the Buds 4 prove that they can hold their ground — not just because of the brand name, but because they deliver where it really matters. In this review, we find out. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like JAIN Online MBA – Empowering Future Leaders JAIN Online Learn More Undo Design At first glance, the OnePlus Buds 4 follows a familiar design approach, with an in-ear style and a compact charging case. The buds come in a polished, single-tone finish that looks neat without drawing too much attention. The earbuds are offered in two colour options – Zen Green and Storm Gray. We received the Zen Green model for our review and it looks good. OnePlus has opted for a stem-style design once again, something we've seen in their previous models too. At just 4.73 grams, the buds are really lightweight and sit comfortably in the ear for short to moderate durations. The in-ear design with silicone tips gives a snug, sealed fit for commuting or noisy environments. The case itself is small and pocket-friendly, with a clamshell-style lid that shuts securely. It weighs 40g and slides easily into your pockets without making it heavy. The case uses a gloss finish that does a decent job resisting smudges and fingerprint marks. There's a Type-C port at the bottom for charging and a pairing button inside. The case feels well-built overall, even though it sticks to basic materials. OnePlus Buds 4 Review: Flagship Sound & Gaming Performance Touch controls are located on the stem of each earbud, and they respond with a gentle tap. OnePlus has kept the design simple and functional, which works well if you prefer minimal distractions. While the design doesn't break new ground, it stays practical and consistent with what's worked before. Performance and battery life OnePlus Buds 4 are at their best when it comes to Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). We tested them in a noisy gym, where background music and clanging weights are usually hard to ignore. As soon as we switched on the High ANC mode, the earbuds managed to cut out nearly all of the surrounding sound. Whether it was chatter, loudspeaker announcements, or traffic noise, the Buds 4 filtered most of it out, allowing one to focus on the playlist. That said, the High ANC mode is just one of several options. You can choose from low, medium, high, and even an Auto mode that adjusts depending on your environment. There's also a Transparency mode, which is useful when you want to hear your surroundings while still listening to music. Another adaptive mode switches between ANC and Transparency automatically. These modes can be controlled through the HeyMelody app, though the app experience was frustrating. It often failed to detect the earbuds and required multiple steps to access basic settings, which affected the overall user experience. Talking about the sound performance, the Buds 4 clearly favour bass-heavy output. On tracks like 'Malang' or 'Genda Phool,' the bass kicks are prominent and deep. If you enjoy electronic or club music, you'll probably enjoy how punchy the lows feel. On the other hand, in softer songs like 'Raataan Lambiyan' or 'Kesariya,' vocals are sometimes overpowered by the bass, especially if you're not using a custom sound profile. That's where OnePlus' Golden Sound feature comes in. It creates a personalised sound profile based on a quick hearing test and ear scan. This helped balance the sound better for me, especially in songs with a mix of instruments like 'Shayad' or 'Tum Hi Ho.' Other audio features include 3D Audio (Spatial Audio) and a BassWave enhancer, which boosts low frequencies even more if you want that extra thump. Connectivity was strong throughout testing — the Bluetooth link stayed stable without any drops. Battery life is decent, but not great, especially if you're using all the advanced features. With ANC off, you can expect around 11 hours per charge, but switching ANC on drops that to about 6 hours. The charging case adds more juice, taking total playtime to around 24 hours with ANC on, and 45 hours without. In short, the OnePlus Buds 4 deliver strong ANC and solid bass performance, but battery life and app usability leave some room for improvement. Verdict Compared to its predecessor and other earbuds in the Rs 6,000 segment from rival brands, the OnePlus Buds 4 hold their ground mainly due to strong ANC and useful customisation features like Golden Sound. But if you're expecting a significant leap in all-round performance or app experience, the improvements here are more incremental than transformative. All in all, at Rs 5,999, the OnePlus Buds 4 offers solid value, particularly for users who prioritise bass-heavy audio and noise cancellation. The ANC performance is easily one of the strongest features, making them suitable for noisy environments. Add to that stable connectivity and a comfortable, lightweight design, and the OnePlus Buds 4 covers most of the core needs for daily listening.

Patna-New Delhi Amrit Bharat Express set to run from July 31

Patna: The railways is all set to introduce regular service of the Amrit Bharat Express between Rajendra Nagar Terminal and New Delhi starting July 31, aiming to provide a more affordable travel option for passengers. The new train will cover a distance of 998km in 18 hours, offering a longer yet cheaper alternative to the premier Rajdhani Express and Sampoorna Kranti Express, both of which complete the trip in 12 hours and 30 minutes. While the Amrit Bharat Express lacks air-conditioned coaches and modern amenities offered by its faster counterparts, it is expected to attract budget-conscious passengers due to its marginally lower fares. However, with a travel time that is six hours longer, many passengers may hesitate before choosing this option for a long-distance journey to the national capital, Bihar Daily Passenger Association general secretary Shoaib Quraishi said, adding that the train will leave Rajendra Nagar Terminal at 7.45pm and reach New Delhi the next day at 1.10pm. Despite the extended travel time, the Amrit Bharat has a clear edge over other non-premier trains like the Magadh Express and Shramjeevi Express, which take around 20 hours and 30 minutes to complete the journey on the same route. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Swelling and internal bleeding in the brain, help this baby Donate For Health Donate Now Undo Thus, Amrit Bharat Express will have preference from a middle-class common passenger who would cover their journey from Patna to New Delhi in Rs 560 per passenger, sources said. According to a Danapur railway official, Amrit Bharat Express is designed for mass transit, focusing on providing safe and cost-effective transportation for the common passengers. "The train is part of the broader Amrit Bharat initiative to expand rail connectivity and accessibility across the country in the days to come at an affordable fare especially during festive period, the official said, adding that the Rajendra Nagar Terminal-New Delhi Amrit Bharat Express will have a load composition of 22 coaches having 559 berths in the sleeper class and 1,100 seats in general coaches.
