Alicia Silverstone thought she was dating Cary Elwes after filming kiss for 'The Crush'
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly published Saturday, Aug. 16, the 'Clueless' star opened up about making her film debut in 1993's 'The Crush.'
Silverstone, who was just 16 at the time, starred in the psychological thriller alongside Elwes, then 30, and she told the outlet that it was a dream come true – even despite the pair's 14-year age difference.

'I just remember that, when I was little, telling people that I was 'going to kiss the boy from The Princess Bride, but he's a lot older than me,'' she shared. 'We had this kiss in the film and, because I was young, I thought that meant he was my boyfriend now.'
'Not really, but a little bit,' Silverstone added. 'I went to his trailer and asked him if that was okay, and he was so kind.'
Years later, when Elwes' wife, Lisa Marie Kubikoff, sent Silverstone pictures from the set of 'The Crush,' the 'Batman & Robin' star still pretended that Elwes was her boyfriend.

'Lisa Marie, his wife, sent me pictures from back in the day where we're lying together, and I'm looking at her while she's taking the picture like, 'This is my man,'' Silverstone joked.
Silverstone also admitted that Elwes was nothing less than a gentleman during their time filming together, and that the 'Robin Hood: Men in Tights' actor was more like a big brother to her.
'But, really, he was a really good big brother to me and took care,' she said. 'He was so lovely. We had a very professional relationship, and he was very big-brother-like to me, and very sweet and kind.'

'It was just a great job. What a great part to play. It was so fun,' Silverstone added.
Elsewhere during her interview, the 'Blast from the Past' star revealed how she almost lost out on her role in 'The Crush.'
The Alan Shapiro-directed film follows a 14-year-old girl named Adrian Forrester (Silverstone) who is dangerously obsessed with a 28-year-old writer named Nick Eliot (Elwes).

'At first, I was auditioning almost every day, but I wasn't getting anything,' Silverstone shared. 'Then, all of a sudden, I started to get close to everything. They would say, 'It's between you and one other girl.' But that actually was worse. I'd get so close and then be disappointed, where before I didn't care.'
'They had me back many, many times, and it seemed like I was going to get the part — and then they offered it to someone else. It felt really bad,' she recalled. 'For some reason, I felt like I was supposed to play this psychotic character.'
However, Silverstone ultimately landed the role after the original actress dropped out.

The actress also recently opened up about another one of her first-ever onscreen acting roles, which was a short, one-episode appearance on 'The Wonder Years' in 1992.
She shot a scene with the coming-of-age comedy's star, Fred Savage, who later thought that Silverstone gave him a fake phone number.
'Fred asked me for my number, which was really sweet, because I was 14,' she explained. 'My home phone number was also a fax machine of my dad's work.'

'So he had tried calling that a few times, and it just went straight to fax,' Silverstone laughed. 'So he thought I gave him a fake number or something.'
After starring in the erotic thriller 'Pretty Thing,' which premiered last month, Silverstone is set to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in Peacock's upcoming 'Clueless' reboot series.
While Silverstone admitted that she 'never thought' about doing a revival of the 1995 classic, she is 'excited' and confident that the new show will 'honor' the original movie.

Ian McKellen reveals Gandalf and Frodo to return for 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum'
The new installment in the sprawling fantasy franchise, to be directed by original Gollum actor Andy Serkis, will commence production in May, McKellen says. Back to Middle-earth, post haste! Old friends are waiting. Ian McKellen, the legendary actor behind Gandalf the Grey in the original Lord of the Rings film trilogy, dropped a bombshell bit of casting news over the weekend. "I hear there's going to be another movie based in Middle-earth, and it's going to start filming in May. It's going to be directed by Gollum, and it's all about Gollum," McKellen teased at the For the Love of Fantasy fan event in London on Sunday. Last year, original LOTR helmer Peter Jackson was announced as producing a new live-action installment in The Lord of the Rings franchise with Gollum actor Andy Serkis directing and starring in the new film that was slated for a 2026 release at the time. The film is now expected in December 2027. McKellen then shocked the audience with new details. "I'll tell you two secrets about the casting: There's a character in the movie called Frodo, and there's a character in the movie called Gandalf," he said. Smiling to himself as the crowd gasped in amazement, McKellen joked, "Apart from that, my lips are sealed!" Entertainment Weekly has reached out to a representative for Warner Bros. for in the day, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and President David Zaslav discussed Serkis' film during the company's quarterly earnings call. Zaslav noted that The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum joins the likes of upcoming Batman, Superman, and Harry Potter projects at the top of the studio's priority list. Though McKellen did not specifically say whether he and original Frodo Baggins star Elijah Wood would reprise their roles in the film, Wood was present at the fan event, smiling conspiratorially as McKellen spoke alongside fellow LOTR alums Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd, and John Rhys-Davies. Since the original Lord of the Rings film trilogy wrapped up in 2003 with the Oscar-winning The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, McKellen, Wood, and Jackson all returned to Middle-earth with the Hobbit trilogy, which unspooled between 2012 and 2014. Jackson was not involved in Amazon's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series, but last year he produced the franchise's first animated foray into the works of J.R.R. Tolkein, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. Jackson was joined on the project by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, both producers on the original film trilogy who are also on board The Hunt for Gollum. In June, Serkis told Collider, "We're very early on in the process. We've been talking about the film over the course of the last year. We're about to start a period of prep in the next few months or so. We will be shooting in the early to mid-part of next year, I guess, and then it'll be as long as it takes to shoot, which — it's a sizable movie — all ready for a December 2027 release." ‘Weapons' Stays Atop Box Office With Strong $26 Million Weekend
Universal's "Nobody 2" opens to $9.5 million Thanks to rave word-of-mouth from critics and audiences, Warner Bros./New Line's 'Weapons' is holding strong in its second weekend at the box office with $24 million. That's a 40% drop from the film's impressive $43.5 million opening and, should it hold, give the film an $88 million two-weekend domestic total. Last weekend, 'Weapons' made Warner Bros. the first studio ever to have $40 million-plus openings on six consecutive wide theatrical releases, and now the film is in prime position to join the likes of 'Final Destination: Bloodlines' and 'F1' in the $100 million-plus club. He is next set to direct a reboot film for the 'Resident Evil' franchise. Meanwhile, Disney's 'Freakier Friday' is holding decently with a $14.2 million second weekend, roughly a 50% drop from its $28.5 million opening. The film stands with a two-weekend total of $54.5 million domestic against its $42 million budget. In third is the sole new release in the top 5, Universal's 'Nobody 2,' with an estimated $9.4 million opening weekend after a $3.8 million opening day from 3,260 theaters. The first 'Nobody,' starring Bob Odenkirk, was one of the first films to hit theaters as they reopened following the year-long pandemic closures and opened to $6.8 million. With generally positive reception including a B+ on CinemaScore and a 92% Rotten Tomatoes audience score, 'Nobody 2' will hope to leg out and turn a profit against its $25 million budget. Joe Pantoliano May Finally Get HBO, Thanks to ‘The Last of Us' Creator Craig Mazin: ‘They Never Gave It to Me When I Did The Sopranos!'
It's Not TV, so maybe that's why Joey Pants can't get his HBO? 'The Last of Us' Season 2 guest star Joe Pantoliano had previously told Variety he doesn't subscribe to the pay cabler, which is why he wasn't familiar with the series when he was approached to pay the role of Eugene. As of this weekend, he still doesn't have an HBO subscription — but now 'The Last of Us' creator Craig Mazin plans to do something about it. 'I say ignorance is bliss. I don't have HBO. I hope nobody from HBO is here,' quipped Pantoliano, speaking during 'The Last of Us' panel at the Television Academy's Televerse festival on Saturday. HBO organized the panel, so of course they were there! More from Variety Kristen Bell on Why Audiences Swoon Over That First 'Nobody Wants This' Kiss: 'Comfort Can Be Incredibly Passionate' 'The Last of Us' Star Bella Ramsey on If They're In Season 3, Neil Druckmann's Departure and Making Emmy History 'The Last of Us' Video Game Scripts to Be Released in New Book From Creator Naughty Dog, Dark Horse (EXCLUSIVE) It was unclear if Mazin had heard this anecdote before, but he appeared to be incredulous at the news: 'You don't have HBO?! We can get you HBO!' Responded Pantoliano: 'I've been sulking for the last 25 years because they never gave it to me when I did 'The Sopranos'!' Pantoliano, of course, played Ralph 'Ralphie' Cifaretto in Seasons 3 and 4 of 'The Sopranos' until, well, he runs afoul of Tony. 'You're saying they wouldn't give Ralphie HBO?' Mazin said on stage. 'That's fucked up!' 'The Last of Us' executive producer — and video game creator — Neil Druckmann had another solution for Pantoliano, who admitted that he also never played the game: 'We're gonna get you a PlayStation before you get HBO.' Pantoliano appears in the Season 2, Episode 6 flashback episode, where viewers learn what created a rift between Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey). Pantoliano's character Eugene is the husband to town psychologist Gail (Catherine O'Hara). While on Ellie's first patrol, she and Joel find whoEugene, who's just been bitten by an infected and will succumb to the cordyceps fungus shortly. He begs Joel and Ellie to take him to the outer walls so he can have a last moment with Gail. Joel says no, but Ellie convinces Joel to break the rules to bring him back. But when Ellie goes off to retrieve her and Joel's horses, Joel — who had promised not to shoot Eugene — does so anyway. 'So Greg and Neil, we had a phone conversation, and they sent me two of the scripts, and then I read my scenes, and I remember thinking that there was more to this character and much more of a challenge for an actor than the last 20 years I've been in show business,' Pantoliano said. 'There was so much there to to test me. And then, the simple stuff of 'who am I? Where and I?' What spoke to me the most is the human element of like, 'this could happen toanyone.' It's happening every day. People die, and see their life in a blink of an eye. I woke up, I had coffee with my wife, I went on patrol and then I got bit, and I know I have to die. I have a last request. And so it was very emotional. But I gotta say, Neil [Druckmann] beat the shit out of me, and he knew what he wanted.' Added Druckmann, who directed that episode: 'Joey was so fun to work with, because as long as we had ideas, we kept exploring and digging and finding. And it was such a joy to find the character in the moment. Because initially, the way it was written, there was some comic relief lines in there that were just excised in the moment. It didn't work the way you were playing it.' As for what's to come in Season 3 as Kaitlyn Dever (who plays Abby) moves into more of a lead role, Dever said that 'we're getting to the real core of Abby in this season, and really giving her some context. Because in the game, she does sort of appear, and you don't know who she is, where she's coming from, why she killed Joel. I feel like we're really getting to the core of the why, and her grief is what fuels that rage. I have not been told with what we're doing for Season 3… I'm just so grateful to be a part of such a beautiful show. I've been such a fan of the game for so long. I played it twice all the way through with my dad. He's a big fan girl over this game. So I'm just grateful to get to continue that journey for Abby and dig even deeper to twhat drives her and just how broken she is. Maybe she's not all that different from the other human beings in the show.' Hinted Mazin: 'Knowing that I've got this pillar in Kaitlyn that is going to anchor this cast, and knowing that I can turn again to [production designer] Don [MacAulay] to build this physical world around us, and it is going to be quite ambitious. We've had meetings already, he knows, and [VFX producer] Alex [Wang] is going to extend those beyond and there's creature work. If you play the game, you know there's something coming. We've done a lot of talk about basements, that's all I'll say.'
