Packers DE Rashan Gary ranks No. 80 in 'NFL Top 100 Players of 2025'

USA Today2 days ago
For the second consecutive season, Green Bay Packers edge rusher Rashan Gary has made the "NFL Top 100 Players" list. After ranking No. 50 entering the 2024 season, Gary checked in at No. 80 overall in "NFL Top 100 Players of 2025" list.
The first 20 players on the list have now been revealed, and Gary is the first Packers player to make the list.
A first-time Pro Bowler in 2024, Gary produced 7.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hits, nine tackles for loss, 49 total pressures and a forced fumble across 17 regular season games for the Packers last season.
His overall numbers took a step back -- Gary had 9.0 sacks and 22 quarterback hits in 2023 -- but a strong overall season, in which he became a top run-defending edge rusher -- helped keep Gary in the top 100 list.
Gary moved from standup outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense in 2023 to a true 4-3 defensive end for Jeff Hafley in 2024.
According to ESPN Analytics, Gary ranked first among all edge rushers in "Run Stop Win Rate" after producing 63 wins on only 170 plays in 2024. He also produced a career-high 33 stops, or a tackle creating a failure for the offense, per PFF.
However, Gary had only 47 pressures, down from 60 in 2023, and his pass-rush win rate dropped to 12.7 percent, which ranked 33rd among all edge rushers with at least 280 pass-rushing snaps in 2024.
Despite getting a spot in the top 100 list, Gary did not make ESPN's list of top 10 edge rushers entering 2025.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson says Eagles traded him because they are 'scared of a competitor'

C.J. Gardner-Johnson was too competitive and that's why he was dealt two months after helping the Philadelphia Eagles win Super Bowl LIX, the veteran safety said this week. 'Scared of a competitor,' Gardner-Johnson told The Pivot podcast. 'Simple as that. ... You can't program a dawg." Gardner-Johnson, 27, went on to say he didn't feel support from the Eagles' coaching staff after he was ejected from a Week 16 game against the Washington Commanders. He also felt unfairly blamed for a scrum during practice. 'We had a little scrum at practice,' he said. 'Nothing, just offense vs. defense, but who's the culprit of it? Me, I guess, because we're competing. Well, you tell me the period is live. You're telling us not to compete during a live period, but it's a live period and we're getting ready for a playoff game?' The mixed messages Gardner-Johnson received from coaches and executives rubbed him the wrong way. 'You want me to be a leader and outspoken but then you want me to sit back,' he said. 'There's nowhere been a locker room where I had a single issue with a teammate.' After playing in Philadelphia in 2022, Gardner-Johnson returned to the Eagles in March 2024 after signing a three-year, $27 million deal. He was dealt in March to the Houston Texans for offensive lineman Kenyon Green due to financial reasons, according to general manager Howie Roseman. In June, during a livestream on Instagram, Gardner-Johnson read a comment that said, "You won't see another ring without Philly," to which he replied, "That's crazy. They probably won't see one without me. The f*** you talking about. You saw what happened when I left. I'm popping now. F*** you talking about, I'm glad I'm in Texas. They say everything is better in Texas." Gardner-Johnson walked back those comments this week and said he would apologize to any Eagles player if approached about what he said during the team's Super Bowl ring ceremony this week. "It's a disrespect to Jalen Carter, A.J. Brown — I can name all those guys on that team — Lane Johnson," Gardner-Johnson said. "Because Lane is my big vet and Lane would tell me, 'Hey, Chaunce, I got your back, but when you do too much, I don't got your back. And that's one of those moments that's too much.' Because it's taken away from his career. He done it. He done it before me. Apologizing to the guys in Philly, I got nothing against them. And if they win six more rings without me, they deserve it, because that's the type of players they are."

Bears WR Rome Odunze predicted to have breakout season under Ben Johnson

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for the 2025 NFL season, where there's plenty of excitement with new head coach Ben Johnson leading the charge. There's no shortage of talent on the roster, including some young players poised to make big contributions in 2025. Bucky Brooks unveiled his 2025 All-Breakout Team that featured one prominent second-year player: Wide receiver Rome Odunze, who he believes will benefit significantly from the addition of Johnson. Ben Johnson's arrival and Caleb Williams' expected development should result in increased production for the Bears' WR2 in 2025. As a big-bodied playmaker with sticky hands and rugged running skills, Odunze can excel as a possession receiver in a ball-control offense that frequently targets the middle of the field. With Williams instructed to play on time, the QB should find the second-year receiver early and often, with opponents forced to defend a multi-faceted attack that efficiently mixes run and pass plays with a creative approach. The addition of Johnson will no doubt elevate the entire offense, and there are some young playmakers, like Odunze, who serve to benefit the most. Brooks believes Odunze has the potential to thrive as a target in the middle of the field and could benefit from the abundance of weapons on the field. Odunze had a respectable rookie season with 54 receptions for 734 yards and three touchdowns despite being the third receiver behind DJ Moore and Keenan Allen. But with Allen no longer in Chicago, the stage is set for Odunze to have a bigger role on offense – especially with Johnson running the show and as his rapport with Williams continues to flourish.
