KSSA to boost entrepreneurial growth, promote Shah Alam's local identity

SHAH ALAM: The Kompleks Sukan Shah Alam (KSSA) will further boost entrepreneurial activity by developing a more robust ecosystem for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across the commercial areas of Shah Alam City Centre.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative would also help showcase local talent and highlight Shah Alam's unique character in terms of food and beverages, as well as its culture and traditions.
"One of the unique traits among the people of Selangor, particularly the youth, is their spirit, capability and eagerness to venture into entrepreneurship.
"However, at times, those who are interested may feel that opportunities to become entrepreneurs are limited by factors such as location, information or knowledge.
"As such, this initiative will further highlight local talent and celebrate Shah Alam's unique identity through its food and beverages, culture and traditions," he said.
He said this in his keynote address at the handover ceremony of the Letter of Acceptance for the KSSA development between Menteri Besar Selangor Inc (MBI Selangor) and Lembaran Prospek Sdn Bhd (LPSB), a subsidiary of MRCB Land Sdn Bhd and Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB).
The handover was witnessed by Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.
Also present were Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin, MBI Selangor group chief executive officer Datuk Saipolyazan M. Yusop and MRCB chairman Datuk Mohamad Nasir Ab Latif.
Amirudin said KSSA, built as a sustainable and multi-purpose hub, will also feature a shopping mall, a multi-purpose indoor hall and a football training field.
He said the shopping mall would be directly connected to the indoor arena and main stadium, allowing smooth visitor flow and supporting attractions such as street eats, pop-up bazaars and open-air dining areas.
"More broadly, the inclusion of hotels, restaurants and an integrated transport terminal is expected to generate job opportunities and stimulate local economic growth," he said.
At the same time, Amirudin said, in line with the sustainability theme of the Selangor Plan 1 (RS1), a 310,000m² area would be allocated as green landscaped space, featuring a botanical garden, jogging and cycling tracks and pedestrian-friendly walkways.
"Recently, when I led the Selangor delegation to Osaka for the launch of Selangor Week at the Malaysia Pavilion during the 2025 World Expo, I observed and appreciated the beauty of Osaka's parks and cityscape.
"While seemingly simple in design, every element and component of the city and gardens served a clear function and was both user and pedestrian friendly.
"Hence, I believe the KSSA area can serve as a new model in realising the Shah Alam City Council's goal of becoming a low-carbon city within five years, by 2030," he said, adding that the space is intended to provide a positive environment for youth to explore their interests, connect with peers, and engage in healthy activities.
He also said the KSSA master plan would prioritise access to, and connectivity with, the LRT3 public transport system, complementing existing efforts by the Selangor government through Selangor Mobility, including the use of Smart Selangor Buses and demand-responsive transit (DRT) vans.
He added that this would allow Selangor residents living in commercial hubs such as Kuala Lumpur, or even as far as Putrajaya, to reach the Shah Alam Sports Complex without needing to use private vehicles.

Surge in foreign tourists visiting S'gor in lead-up to VSY 2025

From left: Amirudin and Ng visiting a booth at the Sekinchan Padi Field Festival 2025. SELANGOR is experiencing a shift in its tourism landscape as international visitors begin to form a larger part of the state's tourist arrivals. According to state local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim, the ratio of international to domestic tourists was previously 30:70. 'But by 2024, we successfully broke that pattern. 'Now, international tourists make up a larger share of visitors. 'This a positive sign for Selangor's growing global appeal,' he said. Ng said that while the momentum was encouraging, Sekinchan faced one major hurdle – the lack of four-star hotels for the rising number of higher-spending tourists. He was speaking to reporters at Sekinchan Padi Field Festival 2025 in the Sabak Bernam district. The state government had aimed to draw some 13,000 visitors to the two-day event. Held at Terminal Sekinchan, the festival was the first of its kind in Malaysia and had been held in support of Visit Selangor Year (VSY) 2025. (From left) Saipolyazan, Ng and Chua answering media queries at the festival. 'This festival was created to let visitors enjoy the beauty of agro-tourism in northern Selangor, a region that produces the most rice in Malaysia and is rich in natural beauty that you can't find in modern cities,' said Ng. The festival was launched by Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. Held from 7am to 7pm over two days, it featured a variety of family-friendly and cultural activities. Among first day highlights were electric tram and rickshaw tours through padi fields, a food festival, traditional kite (wau kapal) demonstrations, a mini kite decoration competition and a live performance by Malaysian singer-songwriter Aizat Amdan. The second day offered even more attractions, which included a padi field run, free health screenings and environmental volunteer activities. The festival was part of the VSY2025 campaign that aimed to draw 8 million visitors and generate RM11.7bil in tourism- related transactions. To support these goals, the Selangor Budget 2025 has allocated RM8mil for VSY2025 preparations. These include programming and upgrading tourism facilities across all nine districts. In the works are over 100 programmes and initiatives covering educational tourism, sports, food and beverage, arts, culture and heritage. Also present during the festival press conference were Menteri Besar Incorporated chief executive officer Saipolyazan M. Yusop and Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling.

Rental aid for Putra Heights gas explosion victims extended to next April

The explosion on April 1 sent flames more than 30m high, with temperatures reaching 1,000°C, and left a 9.8m-deep crater at the site. SHAH ALAM : The Selangor government will continue providing rental assistance to victims of the gas pipeline explosion at Putra Heights in Subang Jaya at least until April next year. State housing and culture committee chairman Borhan Aman Shah said the RM2,000 monthly rental assistance will ensure victims have appropriate shelter until their homes are repaired. 'Initially, the state government agreed to provide rental support for six months, but we have decided to extend it for up to a year or more, especially for homes that were completely destroyed, as rebuilding will take time,' he said in a statement today. 'For houses that were partially damaged, assistance will also continue until repairs are fully completed. 'The aid will only be discontinued once the occupants are able to return to their homes.' Borhan said the state government will monitor the progress of the repair to ensure efficient use of funds allocated for the assistance. On April 30, menteri besar Amirudin Shari announced that the Selangor government had allocated RM2.73 million in rental assistance to 455 families affected by the incident, covering six months from April. The Petronas gas pipeline fire on April 1 sent flames more than 30m high, with temperatures reaching 1,000°C. The blaze took nearly eight hours to extinguish and left a 9.8m-deep crater at the site.

Amirudin moots Selangor Rail project to boost aerospace development

SEPANG: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has mooted the idea of the proposed Selangor Rail project to complement the Selangor Aero Park (SAP). Amirudin in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of SAP said the proposed rail network is the missing link that would connect key infrastructure and unlock the full potential of the state's aerospace development. "The proposed rail line, initially presented to the Transport Ministry several months ago, would serve to integrate the state's industrial zones, communities, and major transport hubs across Selangor and the Klang Valley. "Moving forward, if we are able to realise the full potential of SAP, there is one missing link which can join the dotted lines to connect industry, people, and the major transport infrastructure in Selangor and the Klang Valley, and that is the Selangor Rail. "It would connect Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Subang Airport, the existing seaports in Port Klang, and the upcoming third port in Carey Island, subject to the approval of the federal government," he said. Amirudin also said that despite the financial complexities involved, Selangor is ready to extend its full intellectual and technical support to turn the proposal into reality. In February, Selangor Investment, Trade and Mobility Committee chairman Ng Sze Han said the proposed 210km rail line is expected to take 10 years to complete once it receives the go-ahead from the government. Ng also said that the proposed line could reduce travel time by an hour for those travelling from Sabak Bernam to KLIA as compared to those travelling by road.
