Unannounced Far Cry Game Headed for Development Hell
A new report from Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming claims a Far Cry extraction shooter codenamed Maverick has been rebooted. This particular project began as the multiplayer component for Far Cry 7 (codenamed Blackbird), which then spun-off from the main entry in early 2023. However, it seems the game wasn't quite up to the quality standards of Ubisoft leading to the project getting rebooted. The report also claims that Ubisoft Montreal will collaborate with Ubisoft Sherbrooke during its new prototyping phase.
Project Maverick was said to be set in Alaska. It seems it is pretty similar to most extraction shooters and had players face off against wild animals, AI soldiers, and other players.
'That's according to several sources familiar with the projects development, who said that the 'writing was on the wall' for a number of months,' reads the report. 'It was said that the final nail in the coffin came after its dedicated tech team called Talisker (also the old name of Far Cry 7 before it morphed into two separate projects), moved from Maverick to be fully dedicated to Blackbird in late December to ensure the project stays on track.'
Specifics on the reasoning behind rebooting the project are unknown. However, the report implies it could potentially be due to Ubisoft's recent struggles and the company's attempt to create a more efficient workflow among its teams.
Ubisoft's next release is Assassin's Creed Shadows, which launches on March 20. It seems like it's a pretty imperative title as the company has been under pressure for the past year. Its ugly Star Wars Outlaws release, paired with multiple studio closures, seem to have been the last straw now as the Guillemot family and Tencent have mulled over a new venture which would see the Chinese tech company take control of some of Ubisoft's IP.

New Game Plus arrives next week in Assassin's Creed Shadows as confirmed by huge roadmap update

Assassin's Creed Shadows is getting a bunch of updates throughout the year It starts with a New Game Plus update next week Further changes and an expansion are set to arrive in September Ubisoft has provided a huge update for Assassin's Creed Shadows' upcoming content roadmap. Revealed in a post to the official series website, the 'summer roadmap' begins with a progression update, arriving next week on July 29. Headlining this update is the arrival of New Game Plus, which lets players carry over character level, gear, skill points, Hideout progression and knowledge rank into a new game after they've rolled credits. The progression update also brings a level cap increase from 60 to 80, new knowledge ranks, a new forge level and the addition of more achievements and trophies (depending on your platform of choice). At the start of September (date TBC), Ubisoft will bring a 'quality-of-life improvement update' to Assassin's Creed Shadows. This free update will finally allow players to fast forward the time of day, 'unfog' the world map, and bring more Hideout and general content updates. This update will also uncap the frame rate in cutscenes, though this is a feature that will only be found in the PC version of the game. Lastly, on September 16, Assassin's Creed Shadows will receive its first story expansion. Known as Claws of Awaji, the expansion adds a new region to explore, as well as all-new weapons, abilities, gear, and enemies. Ubisoft claims the expansion will add more than ten hours of content, and will unlock only after you've beaten the base game story. Assassin's Creed Shadows developers say the Assassin vs. Templar conflict with be explored 'in the near future'

The Assassin's Creed Shadows developers have teased the return of the Assassin vs. Templar conflict One developer said fans can expect the series' modern-day storytelling and the Isu will "be expanded at some point, in some fashion" They also responded to the fate of Basim and whether players will see the character again Ubisoft has confirmed that the Assassin's Creed series' Assassin vs. Templar conflict and the return of modern-day storytelling will be explored in the future. That's according to a team of Assassin's Creed Shadows developers in a recent Reddit Q&A, who answered fan questions regarding the latest entry in the series and what the team plans to do next. When asked if fans can expect more about Assassins vs. Templars, the developers said that they wanted to establish the story of Naoe and Yasuke in Shadows first, before expanding on this long-time war. Still, they confirmed that players can expect more soon. "The Assassins vs. Templars conflict has always been a core pillar of Assassin's Creed," said level design director Luc Plante. "With Shadows, we wanted to properly set our protagonist in the setting before expanding on the Assassins vs. Templars. Now that it's done on the main game, we scratched the surface with the Critical Role story drop, and you can expect more deep dives in this conflict in the near future." There were also questions about Basim, a key character in the series' universe who has been seen in Valhalla and Mirage. The character's fate is left open-ended, but Plante has teased that there is more to come. "We have complex new characters that were introduced in Shadows that we didn't feel there would have been enough spotlight for Basim as well," Plante said. "With Assassin's Creed Shadows, we are putting in place the first stone of new means to deliver the modern-day storyline with the Animus hub. That is not the end of it, and we are listening to your feedback." The Isu, an ancient and highly advanced species of humanoid beings, is also something that didn't make a reappearance in Shadows, and fans wonder when this, along with the return of modern-day storytelling besides Animus Rift missions, will be explored again. "While Modern Day is not the main focus of the story we tell with Shadows, it remains important for our community, so you can expect it to be expanded at some point, in some fashion..." Plante teased. The developer also said that though the events franchise's expanded universe of games and comics were not mentioned in Shadows, this doesn't mean Ubisoft is retconning anything, explaining that "we do not necessarily mention everything in every game if it doesn't directly support the narrative we are building." This also applies to the Isu. "Similar to this, the fact that there is no Isu artifact in the main game of Shadows doesn't mean that it doesn't exist in the world of Shadows," Plante said. "It just wasn't a story device that we needed for the story we wanted to tell." In the meantime, fans can look forward to Assassin's Creed Shadows' next major expansion, Claws of Awaji, which is set to release on September 16. You might also like...
