Shreyas Iyer
, who last played a T20I for India against Australia in 2023, was not in the immediate scheme of things.
However, after the way he performed in this year's IPL, many expected him to make a comeback. He scored 604 runs at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175, leading his team to the final.
2.
Yashasvi Jaiswal
was another notable omission. He was seen as a strong contender for the opening slot and was part of India's last T20 World Cup-winning squad as a reserve opener. Jaiswal had an impressive IPL season, finishing as Rajasthan Royals' highest run scorer with 559 runs at an average of 43.00 and a strike rate of 159.71.

3. Washington Sundar, the all-rounder who was considered a vital option with his off-spin, also missed out. He had recently impressed in the Test series against England, which made his exclusion surprising.
4. Prasidh Krishna, who featured in the Test series against England and was the Purple Cap holder in this year's IPL with 25 wickets from 15 matches, has also been left out of the squad.
5. Mohammed Siraj, the hero of India's series win against England, is another big name missing.

The Asia Cup will be played in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from September 9 to 28 in the T20I format. The tournament will feature eight teams: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, UAE, Oman and Hong Kong.

India has been placed in Group A along with Pakistan, UAE and Oman. Group B includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. Although India is the formal host, a neutral venue will be provided for India and Pakistan matches for the next three years, as per an agreement between the BCCI and PCB.
Dubai will host 11 matches, while Abu Dhabi will stage eight. The tournament will open with Afghanistan facing Hong Kong on September 9 in Abu Dhabi.
India's campaign begins against the UAE on September 10 in Dubai. The much-anticipated clash against Pakistan will be played on September 14, also in Dubai. India's last group game will be against Oman on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.
After the group stage, the top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 4, which will run from September 20 to 26. If India finishes first in Group A, all their Super 4 matches will be played in Dubai. If they finish second, one match will be in Abu Dhabi and the remaining two in Dubai. The final will take place in Dubai on September 28.
