Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament (MP) Ramgopal Yadav stated that the Members of Parliament donot need the permission to walk on the streets of Delh as the INDIA bloc MP'started their march from Parliament to Election Commisison to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar and allegations of " voter fraud " in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections Yadav told on Monday, "MPs dont need permission to walk on the streets of Delhi... If there is any kind of threat from the MPs coming out on the roads, then the system is useless..."RJD MP Manoj Jha told ANI, "... If you cannot meet MPs citing the excuse of space, then that in itself is a comment on what kind of work you are doing... This (SIR) is a fraud; you are not providing classified data. Despite the Supreme Court's instructions, your ( Election Commission ) stubbornness is not going away..."Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav told ANI, "Questions are being raised on our democracy. In UP, by-elections were held on 10 Vidhan Sabha seats; not only were votes stolen, but booths were captured. Why didn't the Election Commission take action against the officers who were working on orders of the state government."BJP MP Jagdambika Pal on Monday criticised the INDIA bloc MPs over their march.He also reteriated the stand of the Election Commisison asking Rahul Gandhi , who is leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to submit under oath his allegations of "vote theft" in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.Speaking to ANI, Pal said,"They have not been allowing the House to function from the day first... The way Rahul Gandhi is making allegations against the Election Commission, the Election Commission is asking for evidence, saying If you have any proof, show it."Earlier today, security was tightened and barricades put up outside the Transport Bhawan in view of the March.

Truth of triumph, says Bihar Congress on Supreme Court's SIR order
Ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 16-day vote adhikar yatra (right to vote march) in Bihar from August 17, the State's party president Rajesh Kumar 'Ram' on Thursday (August 14, 2025) hailed as a 'triumph of truth and defeat of conspiracy' the Supreme Court's interim order on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. The court on Thursday directed the Election Commission to publish the names of voters deleted from the draft roll published on August 1 with reasons. 'This [order] is our first victory,' Mr. Kumar said. 'This is not only an order of the court but a big step taken to protect the democratic values of the country. Since the beginning, we have been saying that deletion of names from the voters' list is a murder of democracy. Today, the Supreme Court has protected democratic rights of people of Bihar and now there will not be any ploy to steal votes,' he added. Mr. Gandhi will start his march from Sasaram and will be joined by Opposition leaders, the party said. The yatra will culminate in a public meeting in Patna's Gandhi Maidan on September 1. The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha will cover 1,300 km, visiting Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Jamui, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Munger, Katihar, Purnia, Supaul, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, West Champaran and Saran districts, said party spokesperson Rajesh Rathore. 'The State unit of the party will organise the nationwide 'save democracy torch procession' in all district headquarters on Thursday,' said party spokesperson Asit Nath Tiwari. Asked how the party will benefit from Mr. Gandhi's 16-day visit in the upcoming Assembly elections, senior Congress leader Kishore Kumar Jha said, 'It will make the desired difference like the party had earlier got after the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.' In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Congress candidate Manoj Kumar had won the Sasaram parliamentary seat defeating BJP's Shivesh Kumar. From the neighbouring Lok Sabha seat Aurangabad, the Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate Abhay Kushwaha beat Sushil Kumar Singh of the BJP. Party general secretary (organisation) K. C. Venugopal and other leaders visited Sasaram on Wednesday to review preparations for Mr. Gandhi's visit.

I don't see any reason for me to contest outside of NDA: Chirag Paswan
Defending his recent remarks criticising the law and order situation in Bihar, Union Minister and Lok Jan Shakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan said that he was not 'rebelling' against the JD(U)-led State government or against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), but was only airing his concerns, since his party was only supporting the government from outside and not part of it. 'It was my concern and a genuine concern for my State Bihar and Biharis,' he told The Hindu in an interview. In the wake of the gang-rape of a Bihar Military Police aspirant in Bodh Gaya on July 24, 2025, and the recent spate of crimes in Bihar ahead of the forthcoming Assembly election, he said on July 26, 2025 that he regretted supporting the government in Bihar. 'I am not being rebellious… I am only raising questions. I want accountability. It is the government's responsibility to hold someone accountable..,' he further added. He explained why he felt the need to go to the public by saying that unlike in the centre, where he is part of the Union Cabinet, his party is not part of the Bihar government. He conceded that remarks such as the ones he made, makes the Opposition 'happy' and helps them set the narrative given his history with the JD(U). Mr. Paswan, while being in the NDA, had fought 2020 Assembly polls against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the JD(U). 'I have nothing against the government. And I believe in our Chief Minister,' he said, crediting him for the progress in the State. 'He (Nitish) is called the Sushasan Babu, because he dealt with the 'jungle raj' and brought it under control. I believe that he will be able to set it right again.' He also rejected all speculations of him repeating his 2020 gambit of contesting the Assembly polls outside of the alliance. Claiming that the NDA is a 'solid' coalition and will have historic win, Mr. Paswan said, 'I don't see any reason for me to contest outside of the alliance. Until and unless like 2020 I am not pushed to a corner which I don't see happening because all my concerns are getting addressed and acknowledged.' The conversation on seat division between the allies Mr. Paswan said has not yet begun in the alliance but said he expects it to be done amicably. He also dismissed the rumours on Mr. Kumar's declining mental acuity. 'I have interacted with him multiple times and not even once I have felt that you know he is not fit,' he said, calling it a manufactured narrative by the opposition. In the same breath he added, 'Eventually, I think it is the collective responsibility of the whole alliance to take the state forward and which we are doing very nicely.' Attacking the Opposition for their stance on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, he said that the Opposition's demand for a debate on the issue in Parliament and government's insistence on not holding it, had paralysed the Parliament. 'It's not a decision taken by the government of India. Where do we stand? This was a decision taken by an independent constitutional body, the Election Commission. 'Which Ministry does the Election Commission fall under? If we do hold a debate, which Ministry will reply to it? If the Opposition can answer this simple question then I would personally go speak to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urge him to hold the debate,' he said. On his party's efforts to cast the net wider beyond the Paswan voters that they traditionally cater to, to building themselves up as a bahujan party, reaching out to the OBC voters too, Mr. Paswan asserted that his fight is for all 14 crore Biharis irrespective of their caste. 'I am an educated young guy of the 21st century who doesn't believe in this caste system, but then this is a sad reality especially in my State.' Hitting out at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), main Opposition party in the State, he said that in contrast to the RJD's MY-voteback (Muslim-Yadav), the LJP(RV)'s MY formulation is — M for Mahila (women) and Y for Yuva (youth). 'They (RJD) are both communal and casteist,' Mr. Paswan claimed.

Op Sindoor stands for humanity's fight against terror: President Murmu
In her first detailed public remarks on Operation Sindoor, President Droupadi Murmu Thursday hailed the country's 'steely resolve' in responding to the Pahalgam terrorist attack and pointed to how the world has taken note of India's stance on fighting terror. Addressing the nation on the eve of the 79th Independence Day, President Murmu said, 'I believe Operation Sindoor will go down in history as an example in humanity's fight against terrorism.' In her 22-minute address, the President also dwelt at length on India's resilience amid stress in the global economy, and the contribution of farmers and workers towards the country's GDP growth. 'In the economic field, our achievements are all the more noticeable… With a GDP growth rate of 6.5 percent in the last fiscal, India is the fastest growing among the major economies in the world,' Murmu said. 'Even amid stress in the global economy, demand at home is pacing ahead. Inflation has remained under control. Exports are rising. All key indicators show the economy in the pink of health. This is as much due to carefully calibrated reforms and sagacious economic management as due to the hard work and dedication of our workers and farmers,' the President said. These remarks come amidst a tense trade standoff between India and the US, with US President Donald Trump imposing tariffs of upto 50 per cent on India even as bilateral negotiations continue for a deal. On Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam attack, the President said, 'This year we had to face the scourge of terrorism. Killing innocent citizens on holiday in Kashmir was cowardly and utterly inhuman. India responded in a decisive manner and with steely resolve. Operation Sindoor showed that our armed forces are prepared to meet any eventuality when it comes to guarding the nation… With strategic clarity and technical capability, they destroyed terrorist hubs across the border.' The President also referred to the unity displayed in the wake of the attack, and the political messaging conveyed to the world through multi-party delegations. 'In our response, what was most noticeable was our unity, which is also the most befitting response to those who wanted to divide us. Our unity was on display also in the multi-party delegations of the Members of Parliament that reached out to various nations to explain India's position,' she said. 'The world has taken note of India's stance, that we will not be the aggressor, but we will not hesitate to retaliate in defence of our citizens,' she said. President Murmu said Operation Sindoor was also a test case of the Atma Nirbhar Bharat mission in the defence sector. 'The outcome has proved that we are on the right path. Our indigenous manufacturing has achieved the critical level that makes us self-sufficient in meeting many of our security requirements. These are landmark achievements in India's defence history since Independence,' she said. At a time when the Election Commission has come under attack from the Opposition, especially over the electoral list revision in Bihar, the President hailed India as 'a democracy with universal adult franchise'. 'We the people of India put the power to shape our destiny in the hands of each of us, without any restrictions of gender, religion and other factors that had barred many people from voting in other democracies. In spite of many challenges, the people of India made a successful transition to democracy,' Murmu said. 'When we adopted the Constitution, it provided the edifice of democracy. We built democratic institutions that strengthened the practice of democracy. We prize our Constitution and our democracy above everything else,' the President said. 'Our Constitution contains four values as the four pillars upholding our democracy – justice, liberty, equality and fraternity,' she noted, adding that 'everyone should have equal access to healthcare and education, and equal opportunity'. 'A large number of people have been pulled out of poverty through good governance. The government has been running a series of welfare initiatives for the poor and also for those who have risen above the poverty line but are still vulnerable, so that they do not fall below it again. This is reflected in the rising expenditure on social services. Income inequality is reducing. Regional disparities are also disappearing,' the President said. 'Our business leaders, small and medium industries and traders have always exhibited a can-do spirit; what was needed was removing the bottlenecks in the path of wealth creation,' she said. 'That is so visible when it comes to infrastructure development over the past decade.' The President also made a special note of Government schemes such as strengthening of the National Highway network under the Bharatmala Pariyojana; and the inauguration of the rail link in Kashmir valley; enhancement of metro rail facilities, and the assured supply of water and a sewerage connection. 'The Government considers the basic amenities of life as rightful claims of the citizens. The Jal Jeevan Mission is making progress in providing tap water supply to rural households,' she said. 'In this Digital Age, it is apt that one sector in India that has seen the most dramatic advances is information technology. Nearly all villages have 4G mobile connectivity, and the remaining few thousands will be covered soon,' the President said. 'More than half of the total number of digital transactions in the world take place in India. These developments have created a vibrant digital economy whose contribution to the country's GDP is increasing year on year,' she said. The all-round economic growth complemented by social sector initiatives has placed India well on the path of becoming a developed economy by 2047, the President said.
