Johnny Depp unveils art collection of his most personal paintings yet
The first piece, "A Rose Is a Rose, Is a Rose", is a delicate painting of a flower that symbolises Lily-Rose.
"On Valentine's Day and birthdays he used to give Vanessa, his ex-wife and his daughter Lily Rose, instead of giving them a rose or buying a rose or giving them an actual flower, he would paint one," explained Castle Fine Art's spokesperson Frankie Washington.
The second of the two paintings is called "Add the Light", and it's a self-portrait of the Hollywood actor, inspired by advice he received from fellow artists. "One of them said to him, you know, just paint what's there, paint the light and when everything else falls away, you know, that's what's left, I think that's a really nice sentiment," revealed Washington.
While all of Depp's art is personal to his own life, Washington says these two pieces 'really top that,' capturing a moment when Depp was 'super happy" and surrounded by loved ones.
Both paintings are currently on sale via Castle Fine Art's official website.

Johnny Depp unveils art collection of his most personal paintings yet
Titled "Let the Light In", Johnny Depp's latest art collection features two intimate watercolours from the early 2000s, when he was living at Le Hameau, his idyllic estate in the South of France, with then-partner Vanessa Paradis and their children, Lily-Rose and Jack. The first piece, "A Rose Is a Rose, Is a Rose", is a delicate painting of a flower that symbolises Lily-Rose. Denzel Washington receives surprise honorary Palme d'Or at Cannes
Legendary American actor Denzel Washington managed to sandwich a whirlwind trip to the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of Spike Lee's latest joint Highest 2 Lowest on Monday. And it was a wise decision to take the time, as he was rewarded with a surprise: an honorary Palme d'Or. Cannes accommodated Washington's speedy France trip, which came on his lone off-day while performing 'Othello' in New York, with Cannes Film Festival chief Thierry Frémaux surprising Washington with the award before the Monday night premiere. 'This is my brother, right here,' said Spike Lee, who passed the award to Washington, who was on the Croisette for the first time. 'He's on Broadway doing 'Othello,' so it really took a lot for him to fly here. Let's give it up for Denzel Washington, please.' 'This is a total surprise for me,' said Washington. The festival usually gives out one or two honorary Palmes each edition. Last year, the awardees were Studio Ghibli and George Lucas. Last week, Robert De Niro received his honorary Palmeon the festival's opening night. De Niro's award was announced in advance, but surprise prizes aren't unheard of. In 2022, Tom Cruise was presented with a surprise honorary Palme d'Or just before the screening of Top Gun: Maverick. Highest 2 Lowest is a remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 film High and Low and stars Dnezel Washington, IIfenesh Hadera, Jeffrey Wright and A$AP Rocky. The neo-noir crime thriller is distributed by A24 and hits theaters on 22 August before streaming on Apple TV+ on 5 September.

Rihanna, A$AP Rocky watch Denzel Washington award in Cannes
Washington, 70, was at the festival for the first time for the premiere of his latest film with director Spike Lee, "Highest 2 Lowest". The two-time Oscar-winning actor was presented with an honorary Palme d'Or by festival chiefs Thierry Fremaux and Iris Knobloch before the screening, where A$AP Rocky and Rihanna were among the VIPs. A$AP Rocky is Washington's co-star in "Highest 2 Lowest", extending an acting career that includes "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You" by Mary Bronstein, which showed at the Berlin film festival in February. Before handing over the prize to Washington, Fremaux introduced a montage of Washington's memorable performances including in "Malcolm X" and "Mo' Better Blues", both directed by Lee. Clips were also shown from "Glory", which earned him an Oscar for best supporting actor in 1989, and "Training Day", for which he won best actor in 2002. The cast of "Highest 2 Lowest" put on a show on the Cannes red carpet, with Spike Lee in an orange pinstripe suit, round glasses and an orange-and-blue hat, and A$AP Rocky showing off a gold dental piece. Although Cannes usually hands out honorary awards in dedicated ceremonies, it is not unusual for actors to receive them unexpectedly —- as happened with Harrison Ford at the premiere of "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" in 2023. © 2025 AFP
