TV star Zack, 35, who is better known as Steel, told the Mirror how Leo was born "really strong", before things took a downward turn two days into his life.
Initially, Leo was placed on a ventilator, but after responding well he was taken off it and provided with CPAP, a non-invasive way of keeping airways open.
However, when he was retubed after six hours, it is believed accidental damage was done to his windpipe.
As well as suffering from brain bleeds, a hole in the heart and collapsing lungs, air pockets began to form around his lungs.
Zack said: "Around the tenth day they started getting a bit bigger. They came to the conclusion that when they tubed him, either the first or the second time, they created a hole in his windpipe. It's no one's fault, a baby that young is really fragile, it's just a risk.
'That was really hard, because if it hadn't happened, he would probably still be here. A 23-week-old baby has so much to do. Overnight, he got quite bad, that's when we went in and he passed away.'
The couple decided against giving Leo CPR having already witnessed him go through so much.
Zack announced Leo's tragic death with a heartbreaking picture of he and Samantha holding him.
He wrote on Instagram: "Your mummy brought you into this world and your daddy held you as you left.
"Leo…… you showed us what the true definition of strength is and we are so proud of you.
Gladiator star Steel's emotional final message to son Leo just hours after he died at 13 days old
"You brought so much positivity to the world with the short time you were with us and we felt that positivity in abundance, we thank you all so much for that."
He continued: "Although you were only with us for a short time, you brought us a lifetime of love. Thank you for letting us know that YOU had had enough of this fight. We will forever be grateful that we didn't have to make that decision for you."
"Leo our lion, we love you more than you will ever know.
"Rest easy our little boy."
Zack's Gladiators co-stars sent their heartfelt tributes.
Strictly star Montell Douglas, known as Fire, shared a message which read: "RIP baby Leo. Thoughts and prayers are with you both."
Ella-Mae Rayner, known as Comet, shared: "Cannot even begin to imagine what you must be going through. Sending you both all the love and strength in the world. We are all here for you."
Jodie Ounsley, Fury, wrote: "My heart genuinely breaks for you both, sending big hugs."
Alex Gray, known as Apollo, shared hearts and Jade Packer (Electro) said: "Leo, sending so much love & light."
The couple, who also have a daughter called Ivy, laid Leo to rest in May.

MasterChef replaced in schedules just weeks into new series after presenter axe

MasterChef is facing yet another hurdle after being pulled from the schedule by the BBC just weeks after making a controversial return to screens with Gregg Wallace hosting MasterChef has been plunged into chaos yet again after being replaced in the TV schedule just weeks after it returned for the latest season. The current run of episodes has already caused controversy after it was allowed to air with Gregg Wallace at the forefront despite a recent report upholding 45 claims against him. ‌ The show has a substantially reduced viewership compared to last year, with a drop from 2.7 million to 1.96 million tuning in for the the series debut. While the current series is scheduled to air on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday weekly, it has been bumped from the schedule on August 22nd for the Women's Rugby World Cup. ‌ As of yet there is no confirmed date for when the postponed episode will go to air instead from the BBC. England will be hosting the 10th Women's Rugby World Cup from August 22 until September 27. ‌ The tournament will see the home nation play the first game as they take on the USA, while reigning champions New Zealand face their first opponents Spain on August 24th. It comes after John Torode's wife Lisa Faulkner breaks her silence after his MasterChef sacking. Both Wallace and John Torode - who was recently sacked over allegations he had used a racist term which he vehemently denied - feature in the new series in a edited down format, mush to the disappointment of many viewers. ‌ A source told the Mirror: 'There is a feeling the complainants have been ignored and cast aside. It's the BBC burying their head in the sand all over again. There is a lot and lot of anger over this. WhatsApp groups are blowing up.' The new series made its debut on iPlayer on Wednesday morning, with the first three episodes added to the streaming platform. The season opener was then broadcast on BBC One later that evening at 8pm. Wallace was fired by the BBC following multiple complaints of misconduct that were upheld, including his use of inappropriate sexual language. Torode, meanwhile, was sacked over claims that he had used a racist term. The BBC decided to air the latest series after the two sackings as the amateur chefs featured in the run of episodes 'gave their heart and soul' to it. In a statement, they said: "After careful consideration and consultation with the contestants, we have decided to broadcast the amateur series of MasterChef on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 6 August. MasterChef is an amazing competition which is life-changing for the amateur chefs taking part. The focus of it has always been their skill and their journey."

Big Brother winner unrecognisable 7 years after 'accidental' win

The then-19-year-old won what was thought to be the last ever series of Big Brother. Big Brother's Cameron Cole went down in history in 2018, when he won what was thought to be the last ever series at the age of 19. ‌ The beloved reality programme has since returned on ITV, with a third season yet to air later this year. ‌ During his time in the iconic house, Cameron was showered in support from fans and his fellow housemates after coming out as gay, in one of TV's most emotional moments. ‌ Reflecting on that moment in a recent interview with Metro, Cameron revealed that he'd only told his best friend beforehand and had written letters to his family, which he still has. He feared the news would 'go down badly' with the other contestants and the public - only to have a completely different reaction. ‌ He told the publication: 'Once you come out on TV, you can't really do it again. I just don't even think about it now because there's no point hiding it. It is out there everywhere, and for that, I'm very grateful. [If I hadn't done it] I probably wouldn't have been living my true life which is never obviously a good thing.' Cameron went on to win the £100,000 from what he calls an 'accidental' win, but told host Emma Willis at the time that he didn't know what he'd plan to spend it on because he 'hadn't really thought that far ahead'. Unlike the likes of Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson, who have also appeared on Big Brother, Cameron opted for a quieter life away from fame following his stint on the show. ‌ He studied psychology in London and was in a long-term relationship with his boyfriend who he met in the city, though he still keeps his relationship and personal life private. In a post back in 2023, Cameron reflected on his fame from Big Brother, celebrating five years since he won the show. ‌ Alongside snaps from the show, he wrote on Instagram: 'I cannot believe it's been 5 years since the best 53 days of my life. I'm still so grateful to have done something as life changing as Big Brother. I lived my dream, and it never disappointed. 'I'm so glad big brother is back and that I won't be the last winner forever. I've loved this series so much and can relive it in a way I hadn't been able to. ‌ 'I can't explain how much I miss big brother and there isn't a day that goes by where I don't miss the house, housemates and absolutely everything it entitled, the BB voices, the task, diary room, chats, laughs the whole f*****g thing.' He went on: 'It was the safest and happiest I've ever been and will ever be. My safe haven the first place I felt I belonged and was normal. I love what was the best set of housemates and people. 'The memories made I'll never forget or get bored of remembering. I'll always miss it and crave the feeling and experience again, but when it makes me sad, I try to remember just how lucky I was to do it. ‌ 'Thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with me at any point. It's always been so appreciated. I'll never forget you and I'll always miss you, big brother, more than anyone will ever know. 'You made a sad boy with no hope a happy boy and gave me the most priceless prizes: hope and reason to live and laugh again. You changed my life completely and unfortunately you were so good, my heart now hurts everyday with how much I miss you! 'That said I'm so f**king glad I got to spend 53 days of my life with you, if only it was more. So happy more people can now live it too with BB being back. Love you always BB and I'll forever miss you.'

Kerry Katona compares herself to Britney Spears after sharing fears for singer

Celebs Go Dating star Kerry Katona was told she looked like Britney Spears during an Instagram live and compared herself to the legendary pop singer Kerry Katona compared herself to Britney Spears during an Instagram Live on Saturday afternoon. The Celebs Go Dating star, 44, has just jetted off abroad with her children for her family holiday, and gave fans a glimpse into her luxury getaway, ‌ Opting for a pink two-piece, Kerry lay down on a sofa and while one fan claimed she resembled former Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan, another told her she looked like pop star Britney. In response, Kerry said: "I look like Britney Spears? Am I acting like her as well? I used to get called the British version of Britney Spears." ‌ As fans of the pop megastar will know, Britney regained control of her multimillion dollar fortune and various aspects of her life when a conservatorship that had been governed by her immediate family was terminated in November 2021. Since then, she has admitted that she has no plans to return to the music industry but has become known for sharing her sultry snaps to her millions of Instagram followers. It comes after pictures emerged of inside Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash's luxurious £30k family holiday at 'second home'. ‌ READ MORE: Kerry Katona 'moves in with new boyfriend' just months after Celebs Go Dating romance Kerry, who shot to fame around the same time as Britney, 43, when she joined the girl group Atomic Kitten in the late 1990s, has previously been vocal about the Baby One More Time songstress. She noted in her new! magazine column: "I think it's awful what's going on with Britney Spears. I wish we wouldn't make people like her fall further after what they've been through. Saying that, she is quite erratic and it's hard to tell what is actually going on. I think she is really struggling." Just months later, Britney went viral when she danced around with knives on Instagram, and Kerry shared her concern for the pop legend then, as she said: "The Instagram videos she's been posting recently are worrying, especially as she did one dancing with knives last month. I'm not one to judge, but it is concerning. I see all these conspiracy theories on TikTok and they make me wonder if it's the real Britney in these videos." ‌ Prior to that, Kerry, who has famously made more than £1 million through her profile on OnlyFans, previously suggested to Britney that she should join her in selling her racy snaps on the adults-only platform rather than giving them away for free on social media. Meanwhile, Kerry, who is mother to Molly, 23, and Lilly-Sue, 22, with former Westlife star Brian McFadden, Max, 18, and 17-year-old Heidi with Mark Croft as well as daughter DJ, eight, with the late George Kay, also told her fans of the calamity that ensued once she arrived in the foreign location and was temporarily locked out. ‌ She said: "So, gets in the car, gets to the apartment. got no key. I have got no bloody key! What time did we get here, Heidi, about 1? We've just got here and we can have a bloody barbecue!" What's more, the TV favourite also seemed to have forgotten to sort out a hire car for herself, so was left without the inability to stock up on food so had to rely on takeaway delivery services. She added: "I've got no car because I'm a n**head. I am a n**, that's what I am. "So I've done JustEats because we're all exhausted. There's [a little bit] of sun left on the balcony, and our Heidi has took it. So now, I've got to stand in t'bloody shade. But it is really, really nice here. I'm not showing anyone the views or anything though." ‌ For Kerry, the family getaway comes just months after she split from former fiance Ryan Mahoney. In an effort to move on from Ryan, Kerry has stepped back out into the dating pool as has grown close to personal trainer Paolo Margaglione. She signed up to Celebs Go Dating in an effort to find her perfect match. However, it seemed the pair may have faced some bumps in the road already after snaps of the pair in Ibiza seemed to show them in a tense exchange. A source claimed that, while they're totally 'smitten' with each other, Kerry is nervous about putting yet another relationship in the public eye. 'Kerry is being very cautious with this romance,' they told the Mirror. 'She has been very wary about going public with Paolo and it impacting their relationship. ‌ "She's been down the route of high-profile, public relationships before and she doesn't want anything to ruin things this time.' Kerry and father-of-two Paolo, 33, are thought to have met during the new series of Celebs Go Dating. However, Kerry has remained resolutely tight-lipped on her new relationship. The source added: 'Kerry's worries have caused some tense moments as she doesn't want any exterior drama getting in the way. "But Paolo isn't overthinking it – he's just really happy to be with her. He doesn't see the problem and is telling her not to worry, they're great together and should just enjoy what they've got.'
