Bedbug complaints lead to Suntec City Rest N Go massage chairs getting roped off
The Rest N Go massage chairs at Suntec City, located near Crawfurd Medical, had reportedly been roped off after complaints of a possible bedbug infestation emerged online.
A mall patron took to Facebook on 15 May and claimed to have suffered painful after-effects following a session on one of the chairs.
'Sat on one that came with a really bad infestation yesterday, and it was hell,' the post read, 'The bite swell has mostly subsided, but my arm muscles cramp every now and then, and it hurts.'
Another netizen wrote in to citizen journalism portal Stomp, alleging that his girlfriend was also bitten after using one of the chairs.
'She says the bitten area feels cramped, but the welts are gone,' he said, 'The mall has already roped it off and sprayed it.'
A spokesperson for Rest N Go told Stomp that the company is taking the matter seriously.
'We are currently investigating this matter and have reached out to the complainant to gather more information,' the spokesperson said, 'Rest assured, we will not take this matter lightly.'
The company emphasised its commitment to hygiene and customer satisfaction, noting that pest control services are regularly engaged across all their outlets.
'Ensuring an exceptional experience for our customers is our top priority,' the spokesperson added, 'Hygiene serves as the most important aspect in ensuring customers' comfortable experience, therefore pest control services have been consistently engaged by us, to ensure a pest-free environment not only in this case, but across all our locations.'

HCA Hospice aims to raise S$500,000 from annual charity walkathon 'Walk With Me 2025'
SINGAPORE: HCA Hospice has announced the launch of the registration for their annual charity walkathon, 'Walk With Me 2025,' with a call to action for the community to come together and support its mission to provide holistic care to terminally ill patients and their families. The community-driven charity walk and fundraiser event, now in its third edition, aims to rally 1,800 participants to collectively raise S$500,000 to support HCA's patient-centred and family-focused care model, which advocates dignity, diversity, and development for all individuals. The annual charity walkathon will be held on Oct 19 at the Marina Barrage and will be graced by Mr Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Digital Development and Information, as the Guest-of-Honour. Themed 'Journeying Together, Step By Step,' the hospice invites participants of all ages and abilities, including children, seniors, individuals in wheelchairs, and even pets, to join and support the cause. Despite the rain on 20 October 2024, there were over 1,300 participants for the HCA Walk With Me Charity Walkathon, walking 6km at Marina Barrage and raising almost $340,000 to support HCA Hospice's patients and families. According to HCA Hospice, the funds raised from the walkathon will go towards expanding its reach to meet the growing needs of Singapore's rapidly ageing population. 'As the nation's largest provider of home-based hospice services, HCA Hospice is committed to expanding its reach with a goal to increase its patient capacity by 50%, from 2,400 to 3,600 patients in 2025,' said HCA Hospice in a media release. 'Together, one step at a time, we can ensure that dignity, comfort, and compassion remain at the heart of every end-of-life journey.' As of Aug 13, the charity walkathon has made significant progress, raising S$33,000 from 248 generous donors. The fundraising campaign is still ongoing and will continue to accept donations until Oct 19. In 2024, Walk With Me raised S$375,715, which has supported close to 140 patients and their families, and enabled over 1,500 home visits by HCA's dedicated multidisciplinary care teams. 'With your help, we can walk alongside more families, ensuring no one faces the final chapter alone,' added the hospice. Participants will be able to choose to participate in either the 6km Physical Walk on Oct 19 or the 60km Virtual Walk, which is ongoing until Oct 18. Those who register for the Physical Walk will receive an exclusive event pack, while Virtual Walk participants can track their progress, unlock inspiring stories, and receive commemorative e-medals at each milestone as a symbol of their meaningful contribution. Registration for the 6km Physical Walk is currently ongoing, and those who sign up by Aug 15 will be able to enjoy an early bird rate of S$31.20 instead of the full fee of S$39. The first 1,800 participants get an exclusive event pack which includes a Quick-DryWalk With Me 2025 T-shirt, a drawstring backpack, a running bib, as well as specially curated goodies and walk essentials. Participants of the Physical Walk will also be able to take part in the Virtual Walk at no additional cost. Man who manufactured Kpods for sale at Yishun home pleads guilty, sentencing adjourned
SINGAPORE: A man who manufactured illicit e-vaporiser pods containing etomidate, or Kpods, at home pleaded guilty on Wednesday (Aug 13). Mohammed Akil Abdul Rahim, 41, was caught after a deliveryman who had collected a package from outside his Yishun unit on Dec 11, 2024, found vape pods in the parcel. The deliveryman went straight to the police and handed the items over. The authorities searched the flat at Block 296B Yishun Street 22 later that day and found hundreds of similar paraphernalia. These included 569 empty pod casings, 1,485 pod covers, 100 loose vape pods and disposable vapes. Enough etomidate powder to fill another 72 vape pods was found in his home. Mohammed Akil's case is the first prosecution for e-vaporisers containing etomidate before the courts, a Health Sciences Authority (HSA) prosecutor said. Etomidate is a fast-acting anaesthetic used in medical procedures. It is listed as a poison, and its sale is regulated. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said last month that Singapore is working to list etomidate as a Class C drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Adverse effects of etomidate include nausea and vomiting, uncontrollable movement or spasm of muscles, changes to breathing and blood pressure, and seizures and psychosis that can endanger health. HSA detected 28 cases involving etomidate this year, as of Jun 30. Mohammed Akil on Wednesday pleaded guilty to one count of possessing for sale 100 loose e-vaporiser pods, one count of possessing for sale 569 empty pod casings, 534 pieces of pod components, and 1,485 pod covers, as well as one count of possessing for sale 26.4g of white powder which contained etomidate. Another four counts of a similar nature will be taken into consideration when he is sentenced. He also pleaded guilty to one count of making a false statement to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority in an application for a new passport. This was after his passport had been impounded by the authorities pending investigations against him. Mohammad Akil lied to obtain a new passport to visit his girlfriend in Johor Bahru, the court heard. The court heard that Mohammed Akil claimed to have met a person known as Joe in October 2024 while at a mall in Johor Bahru. Joe offered him a job to prepare vape pods and sell them. He arranged for the necessary paraphernalia to be sent to Mohammed Akil's home. To prepare the pods, Mohammed Akil would mix e-liquid with etomidate powder and use a syringe to inject the mixture into the pod. Joe would provide Mohammad Akil's number to potential customers, who would then contact him directly. Mohammad Akil was paid a sum of money for his services. He had prepared 100 pods and placed them in a paper bag for a customer on Dec 11, 2024. He left the bag outside his unit and asked the customer to send someone to collect it. That was the second order he sent out, with the first also for 100 pods. Mohammad Akil's sentencing has been adjourned to Aug 26.
