Adamson, Mapua make debut in 2026 QS World University Rankings
Six Philippine universities have secured spots in the latest Quacquarelli-Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2026 as two more educational institutions made a debut.
Adamson University and Mapúa University entered the global rankings for the first time.
Adamson landed in the 1,001–1,200 bracket while Mapúa was listed in the 1,401+.
The University of the Philippines remained the country's highest-ranked university, placing 362nd globally despite a slight dip from its previous rank of 336th.
Ateneo de Manila University saw a modest rise, climbing to 511th from 516th World, making it the only Philippine institution to improve its global standing this year.
De La Salle University placed third among Philippine schools, landing at 654th, a minor drop from its previous placement in the 641–650 bracket.
The University of Santo Tomas held steady in the 851–900 bracket, maintaining its position as the fourth highest-ranked Philippine university.
The QS World University Rankings evaluate institutions based on academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty and student ratios, and additional performance metrics related to sustainability and impact.—Sherylin Untalan/AOL, GMA Integrated News

"I have disagreements with Congress leadership": Shashi Tharoor says party did not invite him for Nilambur byelection campaign
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], June 19 (ANI): Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Thursday said that he had a difference of opinion with his party's leadership but added that the Congress party, its values, and its workers are dear to him. 'As you know, I have disagreements with the current Congress leadership. Some of them are in the public domain, so you know them. It is better to sort it out within the party by talking to them directly,' Tharoor said, adding that he did not campaign for the Congress candidate for the Nilambur byelection because he did not get the invitation from the party for the same. 'Congress party, its values, and its workers are dear to me. I have been working with them for the past 16 years, and I have seen their commitment, dedication and idealism,' he added. Asked whether his difference of opinion is with the Congress' high command or with the state leadership of the party, he evaded the question, saying that he did not want to talk about it now as the voting in the Assembly byelection is ongoing. '... Today is not the time to talk about those issues (His disagreements with the leadership) as the polling is ongoing, where I wish to see my friend (Congress candidate) Aryadan Shoukath) win it. Some of my disagreements with party leadership are reported in the media, so it cannot be hidden,' he said. 'Our Congress workers worked hard and honestly there in Nilanmbur. We have an excellent candidate. I wish to see the result of their work,' he added. Aryadan Shoukhath expressed confidence in a UDF victory for the constituency, saying that the state government has 'totally neglected Nilambur area,' with tribals not being rehabilitated and increasing human-animal conflict. 'There will be a good victory in this election. For the last nine years, the state government has neglected the Nilambur area. Many tribals have not been rehabilitated. There is also human-animal conflict here,' Shoukath told ANI.

"222 people identified so far": Ahmedabad Police Commissioner on AI-171 crash
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 19 (ANI): Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik said on Thursday that 222 people have been identified so far in the Air India 171 crash incident, and their bodies have been handed over to their respective families. Speaking to the media, Malik said that out of 222, 213 were identified based on DNA samples 'Police also do their part of the investigation, but other agencies and the experts do the technical part, like analysing the black box, and the investigation is underway... 222 people have been identified so far, 214 based on DNA samples and eight were identified without DNA and their bodies have been handed over to their families,' the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner said. Meanwhile, the mortal remains of the co-pilot of the flight, Clive Kunder, were brought to his residence in Mumbai today. Visuals from his residence showed a crowd of people gathered at his place while his family stood in front of his portrait and mourned their tragic loss. Kunder lived with his mother and father in the Goregaon (West) area. On June 12, a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex of BJ Medical College in the Meghani Nagar area of Gujarat's Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The tragedy claimed 241 lives out of 242 onboard, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. A week after the incident, the Ministry of Civil Aviation released new draft rules to tighten control over structures that pose a risk to aircraft safety. The draft, titled Aircraft (Demolition of Obstructions) Rules, 2025, was issued on June 18 and will come into force once published in the Official Gazette. The rules aim to give authorities the power to take prompt action against buildings and trees that exceed height limits in designated aerodrome zones.
