2026 Honda Passport Muscles Its Way Into Dealerships With A Starting MSRP Of $46,200
The 2026 Honda Passport TrailSport is rock-climbing its way to dealers this week and, with an MRSP of $49,900, the off-roader trim turns this formerly mild-mannered grocery-getter into a vehicle fit for the wilderness. The base 2026 Passport starts at $46,200 including destination, a couple grand more than the outgoing model.
The original Passport was a body-on-frame SUV that was basically a Isuzu Rodeo with an H on the front, and the nameplate was brought back in 2019 as a unibody job sharing a platform with the Pilot. This configuration made it a family-friendly hauler, but Honda fans missed the rugged and capable vehicle of the rip-roaring '90s. Honda stuck a off-road-oriented TrailSport trim on to the current Passport, but it's not really up to the task of carving its own path.
Well, distraught Honda heads rejoice! The fully redesigned Passport is hitting dealer lots Tuesday, and it not only does it look like the best car from Honda in a while, its upgraded TrailSport trim looks like it might just live up to the off-road bona fides.
The crossover is brand new from the ground up, starting with a new engine. Honda stuck an aluminum 24-valve DOHC 3.5-liter V6 engine into the Passport, for a slight boost to 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Every Passport gets Honda's i-VTM4 all-wheel drive system, and a 10-speed automatic transmission over last year's 9-speed.
The 2026 Passport comes in three trims — RTL, Trailsport and TrailSport Elite — with a few optional packages you can throw in there. You get a bigger 12.3-inch center touchscreen starting with the baseline RTL (of course) and slightly more legroom in back than the last generation. There's heated seats and tons of places to stash your stuff, including those all important 10 cupholders designed to take 32-ounce bottles. A new tow package is available for an extra $700, or you could spend a little more to look a little cooler go with the Blackout Package for $1,200. Every Passport, regardless of trims, comes with a huge suite of driver assistance systems.
But it's clear this new Passport was designed with off-roading first and foremost in mind. The TrailSport is where things really get interesting, with reinforced steel skid plates, off-road tuned suspension, front and rear recovery points and specially developed all-terrain tires with sunken valve systems just for the TrailSport trims. A heated windshield is standard (fancy) as well as a heated steering wheel.
If you're really serious about getting down and dirty with your Passport, the TrailSport Elite trim is the way to go. It gives you Honda's new TrailWatch camera system standard, offering four views to help drivers navigate rough terrain and animations showing drivers exactly where their tires are. The TrailSport Elite trim also gets you a really dope stereo with 12-speaker Bose premium, so you can rock out while driving on rocks. Both trims come with an off-roader's favorite thing: plenty of branded accessories.
The 2026 Honda Passport RTL starts at $46,200 including the $1,450 destination charge, $2,350 more than the outgoing 2025 Passport EX-L. The Passport TrailSport sees a slight bump from $46,450 to $49,900 for the new generation, but it seems worth the cost considering the upgrades turned it into a vehicle you can actually off road. If you absolutely need the fanciest trimmings,the TrailSport Elite will set you back $53,900.

Supplier Astemo Seeks To Deal With Automotive Industry's Future
Logo for Japan's Astemo automotive supplier Japan's Astemo Group and its Astemo Americas unit are making major adjustments amid changes in the auto industry. Astemo Americas is at work related to new technology, including steer by wire, break by wire, and autonomous driving. Astemo Group is looking to do an initial public offering in 2026. Currently, the company is 40% owned by Honda Motor Co., 40% by Hitatchi Ltd., and 20% by private equity. The U.S. unit, Astemo Americas, is looking to expand from its Farmington Hills, Michigan, complex. It changed its name to Astemo Americas last month. 'We're growing out of this facility,' said Tim Clark, CEO and president of Astemo Americas. 'We're bursting at the seams.' The executive said the supplier's new quarters will remain in the greater Detroit area. The company is looking for a site that could include an actual test track, rather that doing test drives in a parking lot. Astemo has 80,000 employees globally and 14,000 in the Americas. Its customers include Honda, Volkswagen AG, and General Motors Co. The supplier provided a briefing on Friday to automotive journalists. With the planned IPO, there's the question whether Astemo's relationship with Honda may change. 'We are very close to them,' Clark said of Honda. After the IPO, 'I don't think that will change…It's a very good relationship.' What follows are other topics discussed by Astemo Americas: --China's decision to limit rare earths to the U.S.: 'I think magnets are affecting almost every auto supplier,' said Rob Sharpe, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Astemo Americas. An April 27 story on the Forbes website said, 'Rare earths are the great multiplier in the production of electricity and the efficiency of motors. Without them wind turbines would probably not be worth constructing — rare earths increase the output from a wind turbine fivefold or better and the same dynamic is at work in the efficiency of motors.' --Tariffs: The administration of President Donald Trump has imposed tariffs of 25% on imported vehicles and parts. This Honda Was a Jeep Cherokee in Another Life
Well, I'll be DAMneD. Japanese tuners have found a way to surprise us again. After Mitsuoka gave the Civic a Nissan Skyline makeover , another Honda now channels a Cherokee XJ vibe. If you're unfamiliar with the WR-V, you honestly haven't missed much. The weirdly named "Winsome Runabout Vehicle" is just another small SUV in a crowded field. With a front-wheel-drive layout and a continuously variable transmission, it won't exactly set your pulse racing. DAMD has come up with an ingenious way to give Honda's forgettable crossover a stronger personalit, albeit one borrowed from another model. Yes, this WR-V wants to be a second-generation Cherokee when it grows up. The old-school rectangular halogen headlights flank a Jeep -esque grille with, conveniently, only six slots. Had they added another, the tuner might've had to lawyer up. As for the LED daytime running lights below, they look as if they were lifted from a previous-gen Mercedes G-Class. Photo by: DAMD The tuner, known for its quirky G-Class and Defender projects, fully embraced an 1980s and early 1990s aesthetic with faux wood paneling along the sides. At the rear, DAMD didn't bother changing the taillights to mimic the XJ's vertical lights, but it did add a questionable piece of black plastic trim. The rear garnish swaps the Honda badge for a REVERB logo, calling out the package's official name. The whole shebang even includes a redesigned, squared-off hood and a chunky front bumper. While the standard WR-V is far from an off-roader, DAMD lifts the suspension by nearly 1.4 inches (35 millimeters) and wraps the 16-inch wheels in BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A K03 tires sized 215/70 R16. There's not much going on inside, but customers can order plaid seat covers to emphasize the retro effect. The checkered pattern extends onto the front and rear center consoles, as well as the front seat pockets. It's a strange combination, but given how Japanese tuners consistently churn out unusual cosmetic packages, there's clearly a demand for unorthodox custom builds.
