BBC Escape to the Country buyers left speechless over property's hidden feature
Escape to the Country presenter Steve Brown was on hand to help a couple find their dream home in Cumbria on Monday
A pair of Escape to the Country buyers were left speechless as presenter Steve Brown revealed an "unusual" property feature on Monday (May 5).
On the recent episode of the BBC show, Steve welcomed Crispin and Clare, a married couple who were ready to swap their South London residence for the tranquil Cumbrian countryside.
With a budget of £800,000, the pair were seeking a ready-to-move-in home but didn't dismiss the idea of a renovation project.
Their wish list also included at least three bedrooms for visitors, enough land to care for dogs and goats, and a rural location with a pub or café no more than two miles away.
The house hunt commenced in Gawthwaite, a village perched on the southern fringe of the Lake District National Park, reports Lancs Live.

BBC Escape to the Country star sparks frenzy with show update
READ MORE:
Just five miles further south lies Ulverston, a starting point for The Cumbria Way walking route and famed as the hometown of legendary comedian and filmmaker, Stan Laurel.
Ulverston boasts a charming mix of classic taverns and modern retail venues, all nestled along quaint cobbled streets.
Upon arriving at a contemporary barn conversion surrounded by pristine landscapes, Crispin and Clare readily expressed their enthusiasm.
Inside, Steve drew attention to the home's layout: "Attached to the kitchen is a potential dining area, and on the opposite side of the house are two sitting rooms.
"The smaller of which leads to the study where a bathroom suite is being stored. And there's one other unusual addition, which I'm hoping they'll appreciate."
As they entered a reception room, Steve remarked: "And yet another reception room. So, how about this as a space?"
A modern barn conversion was home to an unexpected addition on Monday (May 5)
"Depends what's down there," responded Clare promptly, gesturing towards a trap door in the room's corner.
"Don't go into that trap door," Simon joked, then elaborated: "So, what we've got down there is a cellar. Crispin, do you want to be brave and go down and see?"
Crispin willingly embarked on the descent down the steps to a rather spacious cellar area.
"Welcome to the pit... It is quite big, bigger than I was expecting. There's another little lintel down here, I'd love to know where this doorway goes," Crispin commented.
The couple were initially convinced that the property would exceed their financial reach but were pleasantly surprised to discover it was on offer for £495,000 – significantly below their maximum budget by a striking £305,000.

"It's hard to fault the location in all honesty. The surrounding countryside is really everything we could ask for," Crispin admitted, although he later expressed some concerns regarding the home's distinctive characteristics.

EastEnders star to quit BBC soap after four years 'to look for other opportunities'
Bobby Brazier who plays Freddie Slater in EastEnders is set to leave the iconic BBC soap in by the end of the year. Bobby Brazier is set to leave Albert Square as his time on EastEnders is over after a four-year stint. The actor and model, known for his role as Freddie Slater, has gained a lot of attraction and offers following his time on Strictly Come Dancing in 2023 where he finished runner-up. The 22-year-old's exit from Walford is scheduled for later this year, the Mirror reports. As an EastEnders spokesperson confirmed: "We can confirm that Bobby Brazier will be leaving EastEnders, and we wish him all the best for the future.' A source close to the show, told The Sun: "Bosses recently met with Bobby to discuss a potential storyline, but Bobby felt this was the right moment to explore new ventures beyond the series. "The timing aligned perfectly for both parties. Although his final scenes are some time away, the character has enjoyed a strong run, and now is the time for Bobby to pursue fresh opportunities while EastEnders bids farewell to Freddie Slater." Bobby's departure from EastEnders comes amid a wave of bold casting moves by new executive producer Ben Wadey, who's reviving the drama by bringing back fan favourites including Michelle Ryan (Zoe Slater), Jake Wood (Max Branning), and Max Bowden (Ben Mitchell). At the same time, Lacey Turner is taking a break from her iconic role as Stacey Slater. Since joining the soap as Freddie Slater back in 2022, Bobby has gone on to win the National Television Award for Rising Star as well as appearing on Curfew a Paramount+ drama while continuing to film for the BBC soap. Clearly enjoying his craft, Bobby recently revealed: 'I love my job. I love being on EastEnders and I love modelling. But I'll probably take a break at some point. Just travel, get inspired, meet new people." Looking back on his journey, the once-reserved 22 year old admitted that fame hasn't always felt natural - particularly during his time on Strictly Come Dancing, when he initially "wanted to get voted off." Bobby connects his unease in the spotlight back to the loss of his mother, Jade Goody, who passed away when he was only five years old. "I don't want to be famous. Maybe I did when I was younger. Now I just want to act," he candidly shared. His EastEnders storyline saw Freddie mistakenly believe Billy Mitchell was his father, leading to an emotional and intense confrontation - an early sign that Bobby had the ability to "blow us away" with his raw and honest performances. He later took on a deeply personal journey exploring ADHD representation. One standout scene - where Freddie confronted a former teacher and revisited his past school trauma. Fans praised the depth of his emotional portrayal, capturing the character's grief and anger in a way that resonated both on and off screen. In a powerful 2023 storyline, Freddie defended Stacey Slater from a violent assault attempt by Theo Hawthorne. In the gripping performance that left viewers in tears and earned widespread praise, he attacked Theo with an iron. More recently, Freddie uncovered the harrowing truth that his biological father is Graham Foster - his mother's attacker. The storyline delved into Freddie's emotional turmoil and determination as he seeks out Graham at a car dealership. In the heart-wrenching scenes that followed, Freddie made the decision to firmly cut ties with Graham leaving viewers deeply moved by the emotional moment.

Dannii Minogue back for more I Kissed a Girl after clarifying she is straight
Last year the Aussie host quipped that she "identified as queer" but afterwards had to explain she was still dating her long-term boyfriend Dannii Minogue caused a storm last year after quipping that she 'identifies as queer in a weird way' at the launch of I Kissed a Girl - and hinting that she was attracted to the 'hot' girls who took part. Afterwards she had to clarify on social media that she was 'not lesbian or queer' but remained straight, and was still in her long-term 'heater' relationship with musician Andrew Newman. Now the UK's first dating series for girls who like girls is returning for a second run on BBC3, with Dannii as host once again. She said: 'I Kissed a Girl was full of heart and groundbreaking for female representation on TV. The fans loved the fun, the passion and the drama. I can't wait for the return of the girls - let's see what the heat of the Italian sun does for kisses and connections. It is sure to get sparks flying. I am ready to be cupid once again.' Last year Dannii, 53, fought back tears of pride as she launched the new gay dating show. She got choked up as she told the contestants: 'You girls are so brave and amazing and have brought so much to it. I could never do what you have done. I will always be in awe of what has happened and what we've created. I feel so proud. You're stepping forward, and you're the first crew of girls representing in this space, and it is big.' The long-term LGBTQ ally was commended for getting to grips with the terms used to describe different types of gay women, such as 'femme' and 'masc', which led her to declare: 'I identify as queer in a weird way.' In the first epiaode one of the girls described Dannii as being 'just my type' and others also indicated they were attracted to her. Asked at the launch if the feelings were reciprocated, the Aussie star laughed: 'You girls are hot. You know it. I love it. I'm here for it. Is that an answer?' In the show, before the girls arrive at the villa, they are paired up based on what they're looking for in a partner. After meeting their match for the first time with a kiss, they're encouraged to give their new relationship a go, before potentially looking around at the rest of the group. BBC3 controller Fiona Campbell said: 'The girls brought their A game for the first series of I Kissed A Girl, creating a social buzz and stand out moments so to bring it back for another series means audiences can expect even more iconic, memorable moments and one hot summer.' Casting is now open for the 10-part series via the BBC 's 'take part' website. Last year the former X Factor judge said she hoped the series was watched by a broad audience, including those who are straight. 'There's a curiosity, right? Whether you are a lesbian or not. Who's going to be in the casting? Who's going to be paired with who? What are they like? Will they represent me? Do I see myself? A million questions and guess what? The straights have the same million questions. 'The best thing that can happen to this show is that everyone watches it, and everyone has questions. Everyone learns something. Everyone moves forward.' Dannii admitted that being the glamorous host of the show wasn't too challenging. 'I don't get to do a lot," she laughed. "I think I just drop bombs - and then swan off and try not to trip over my dress.'
