Astros Landing $8 Million Slugger Would Boost Lineup Ahead Of Trade Deadline

FanSided's Zachary Rotman recently put together a hypothetical trade idea that would send Baltimore Orioles slugger Ryan O'Hearn to the Houston Astros in exchange for prospects A.J. Blubaugh and Parker Smith.
"In this deal, the Astros would acquire O'Hearn, a perfect fit for their lineup. In the short term, Houston can use him primarily as a DH, as Yordan Alvarez is still on the Injured List," Rotman wrote. "When Alvarez is healthy, O'Hearn can play in left field, with Walker etched in as the first baseman. O'Hearn won't provide stellar defense by any means, but he was an All-Star this season because of his bat, and his left-handed swing can add some much-needed balance to a right-handed heavy lineup."

BALTIMORE, MD - JUNE 29: Ryan O'Hearn #32 of the Baltimore Orioles takes a swing during a baseball game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on June 29, 2025 in Baltimore, Maryland. MoreBut would this trade idea make sense for both sides?
For the Astros, it would provide them with a versatile defender who would upgrade their lineup in a big way. O'Hearn, whether it be at first base, designated hitter, or in the outfield, would be an everyday player for the Astros. Houston would use him in a variety of ways as it looks to make a World Series push this season.
Pitching prospects are the biggest thing the Orioles need right now. Blubaugh is incredibly talented and could be ready to pitch in Baltimore as early as this season. The Orioles are likely looking to build their pitching rotation from the ground up, so a deal to acquire two talented young pitchers would be ideal.
This could be a slight overpay from the Astros, as it likely wouldn't cost a prospect as talented as Blubaugh to land O'Hearn, but the fit and groundwork make a lot of sense.

Blue Jays' latest feat will give Toronto fans World Series dreams
The post Blue Jays' latest feat will give Toronto fans World Series dreams appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Toronto Blue Jays have been one of the hottest teams in baseball over the last few months, and they are right at the top of the standings with the results to show for their run. They have been showing it off and then some since returning from the All-Star break against some of the top competition in Major League Baseball. The Jays started their second half with a bang, sweeping the San Francisco Giants at home. Toronto then took two out of three from the chasing New York Yankees, extending its AL East lead in the process. Against another top team this weekend, the Blue Jays have continued to excel. They took the first game from the slumping Detroit Tigers 11-4 on the road on Thursday night before getting a comfortable 6-2 win on Friday. With that victory, the Blue Jays now have the best record in baseball at 62-42. The last time that they had the best record in the league this late in the season was in 1992, when they went on to beat the Atlanta Braves in the World Series, according to Sportsnet. Toronto also won the World Series in 1993, but it has not even been back to that final stage since. Blue Jays fans will be hoping that that doesn't continue and that their squad can snap that streak this season. If the last few weeks are any indication, the Jays are ready to make that run and have shown it against some of the best teams in the league. They are 7-1 since the All-Star break, all against teams that should be in the playoffs or are at the very least at the level of a playoff team. While Toronto didn't hit a home run during its win on Friday evening, it got key production from some of its stars in order to build a huge lead and eventually come away with the victory. Holding a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning, star slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit an RBI double before being driven in on a two-run double from Bo Bichette. Production like that, and clutch hitting with runners in scoring position, has become a staple of this Blue Jays squad this season. That is the kind of thing that can push them over the top in the playoffs. Cubs Blockbuster? Merrill Kelly Rumors Heating Up As Deadline Nears
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Chicago Cubs need to add a starting pitcher to their roster before Thursday's trade deadline. Justin Steele is out for the season with an elbow injury, and Jameson Taillon has battled injuries, too. Chicago has been connected to a lot of different starting pitchers, but it's only landed Michael Soroka so far. Soroka isn't going to be enough for the Cubs to feel secure pushing for a World Series. They need to add more. ESPN's David Schoenfield recently suggested the Cubs could be a potential landing spot in a deal for Arizona Diamondbacks star pitcher Merrill Kelly. ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA - JULY 13: Merrill Kelly #29 of the Arizona Diamondbacks delivers to the plate during the first inning against the against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on July 13,... ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA - JULY 13: Merrill Kelly #29 of the Arizona Diamondbacks delivers to the plate during the first inning against the against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on July 13, 2025 in Anaheim, California. More Jayne Kamin-Oncea/Getty Images "Kelly might be viewed as more of a grind-it-out innings eater, but that feels like a bit of a disservice to his ability, especially since he's pitching well with a 2.56 ERA over his past 10 starts, lowering his season ERA to 3.22," Schoenfield wrote. "After getting knocked out early in his second start of the season, he has gone at least five innings in every start since then, usually going six or seven. His superlative work in the 2023 postseason (2.25 ERA across four starts) is another reason he's a fit with any contender." Kelly is the perfect combination of talent and affordability on the trade market that a deal could be realistic. While a trade for Sandy Alcántara or MacKenzie Gore would be fun, they'd be very expensive. Kelly has consistently been one of the more competitive pitchers in baseball each time out. He would provide the Cubs with a stabilizing option in the middle of their rotation for the rest of the season without breaking the farm system down. The deal makes perfect sense.
