PINless debit and least cost routing are available now in the U.S., enabling eligible transactions to bypass traditional card rails in favor of lower-cost local debit networks. Nuvei continues to invest in foundational technology that uses artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics to improve payment routing, augment transaction flows, and optimize revenue recovery.
'These enhancements give merchants access to debit networks that can deliver both higher approval rates and lower processing costs,' said Phil Fayer, Chair and CEO of Nuvei. 'Our smart routing engine gives merchants the flexibility to prioritize maximum approvals or cost efficiency based on their business objectives. It's about putting optimization in their hands and helping them turn payments into profit.'
These enhancements are a key part of Nuvei's strategy to expand its footprint in North America by delivering locally optimized performance. As regulatory changes, issuer behavior, and consumer payment preferences evolve across the region, Nuvei's intelligent routing and authorization tools give merchants the control and flexibility needed to drive higher approvals, lower costs, and accelerate growth in one of the world's most competitive payments markets.
Smarter Routing That Drives Revenue
Nuvei's smart routing engine uses real-time AI and machine learning to analyze every transaction and determine the most effective path to approval based on issuer behavior, network logic, card metadata, and regional preferences. Key routing capabilities include:
Intelligent Routing – Routes transactions through the best-performing bank or card network
‍PINless Debit Routing (U.S.) – Routes eligible debit cards through lower-cost networks, with fallback to Visa/Mastercard
With debit transactions now making up over 53% of online card volumes in North America and recent regulatory changes enabling multi-network routing, Nuvei's enhanced smart routing helps merchants optimize margin, performance, and speed without adding operational complexity.
Intelligent Authorization That Maximizes Conversion
Nuvei's intelligent authorization stack ensures that once a transaction reaches the right place, it has the highest possible chance of being approved. These features work together to reduce friction, resolve soft declines, and adapt in real time to issuer requirements:
Smart Auth Messaging – Dynamically configures payloads and message formats based on issuer-specific logic
‍Network Tokens – Increases issuer trust and compatibility through Visa and Mastercard network tokens
‍One-Click Payments – Accelerates repeat transactions with frictionless token-based experiences
Smart Retry That Recovers Revenue Instantly
If a transaction fails, Nuvei's Smart Retry capabilities step in to recover revenue in real time, with no disruption to the customer experience. Built into the Authorization Optimization Suite, Smart Retry uses advanced decisioning logic to analyze failure reasons and automatically reattempt transactions through the most promising alternate paths.
Nuvei's Smart Retry engine includes:
Account Updater – Automatically refreshes expired or replaced card credentials
‍Bank Failover Routing – Routes the transaction to a backup bank or APM if the primary path declines
‍Auth Reconfiguration – Modifies message format dynamically based on issuer response codes
‍Full Visibility and Control with AI-Powered Insights
Nuvei's Control Layer provides merchants with deep visibility into performance, real-time alerts, and actionable analytics. By combining AI-powered tools with expert human support, Nuvei helps businesses not only understand how their payments are performing, but actively improve them.
Key analytics and insights tools include:
AI-Powered Approval Analysis – Automatically identifies unrealized approval opportunities by issuer, region, or transaction type
‍Performance Insights & Trend Monitoring – Tracks improvements in authorization success over time
‍Risk & Reporting Dashboards – Visualize fraud, scheme behavior, and exceptions in real time

WeightWatchers boss says ‘exciting work to do' amid impact of weight loss jabs

WeightWatchers was slower to adapt to the emergence of anti-obesity jabs than rivals, its boss has admitted, as the 62-year-old brand strives to catch up with rapidly evolving attitudes towards weight loss. Tara Comonte, chief executive of the US-based business, said it had a lot of work to do after going through a 'reset'. WeightWatchers recently announced it had emerged from bankruptcy after writing off a portion of the 1.15 billion US dollar (£860 million) debt on its balance sheet. It came as the business was competing with the emergence of GLP-1s – the scientific term for weight loss jabs, which work by reducing food cravings – and a new wave of apps and advice spreading on social media. Ms Comonte told the PA news agency that it 'wasn't as quick to medical weight loss solutions' as some other firms in the US, notably so-called 'telehealth' businesses that offer healthcare remotely. WeightWatchers, which runs some 20,000 workshops each month globally, is now 'at the beginning of the journey' towards forging a new place in the industry and meeting demand from current and future members, Ms Comonte said. 'This whole industry is going through somewhat of a reset and we have exciting work to do,' she told the PA news agency. 'This is a moment where, possibly more than ever before, people are talking about weight, and weight health… where people are seeking more education than ever before, and there are more voices than ever before.' Ms Comonte said the brand was known for 'trust and science' and it was important to harness that 'as there are more and more voices in the ecosystem'. WeightWatchers recently partnered with anti-obesity drugs provider CheqUp in the UK so patients taking the medication can access its 'companion' diet and lifestyle support app. It forms part of its efforts to muscle into the market by offering behavioural strategies and community-based support to people using or coming off the medication. 'There's no 'us and them' anymore,' Ms Comonte told PA, hitting back at weight loss jabs often being pitted as rivals to its model. Dr Kim Boyde, WeightWatchers' newly appointed chief medical officer, said not all its members will want or need weight loss medication – but stressed that it was 'imperative' the programme offers it to those that might benefit. Recent estimates suggest that about 1.5 million people in the UK are taking weight loss jabs. Health officials have suggested that they can help to turn the tide on obesity, but have stressed they are not a silver bullet and do come with side effects.

Shareholder revolt over Wise plans to move listing to New York

Wise faces a shareholder revolt today over its plan to move its primary listing to New York – after a falling out between its founders. Taavet Hinrikus – one of the fintech firm's founders – has urged investors to vote against the move on the grounds of concerns about shareholder rights that are tied up with the proposal. Wise's planned departure has been described as a 'hammer blow' to the City and will make it the latest in a string of UK-listed companies upping sticks for the US. Wise has said shareholders are 'overwhelmingly in favour' of the plans. A shareholder meeting to rubber stamp the move will be held today. Wise is led by boss Kristo Kaarmann, who founded it with Hinrikus, a fellow Estonian, in 2011. Hinrikus has since left the company but still owns a 5.1 per cent stake via his firm Skaala Investments.

Boeing's fighter jet workers in the St. Louis area reject a contract offer

Boeing Co. expects more than 3,200 union workers at three St. Louis-area plants that produce U.S. fighter jets to strike after they rejected a proposed contract Sunday that included a 20% wage increase over four years. The International Machinists and Aerospace Workers union said the vote by District 837 members was overwhelmingly against the proposed contract. The existing contract was to expire at 11:59 p.m. Central time Sunday, but the union said a 'cooling off' period would keep a strike from beginning for another week, until Aug. 4. Union leaders had recommended approving the offer, calling it a 'landmark' agreement when it was announced last week. Organizers said then that the offer would improve medical, pension and overtime benefits in addition to pay. The vote came two days before Boeing planned to announce its second quarter earnings, after saying earlier this month that it had delivered 150 commercial airliners and 36 military aircraft and helicopters during the quarter, up from 130 and 26 during the first quarter. Its stock closed Friday at $233.06 a share, up $1.79. The union did not say specifically why members rejected the contract, only that it 'fell short of addressing the priorities and sacrifices' of the union's workers. Last fall, Boeing offered a general wage increase of 38% over four years to end a 53-day strike by 33,000 aircraft workers producing passenger aircraft. 'Our members are standing together to demand a contract that respects their work and ensures a secure future,' the union said in a statement. Dan Gillan, general manager and senior Boeing executive in St. Louis, said in a statement that the company is 'focused on preparing for a strike.' He described the proposal as 'the richest contract offer' ever presented to the St. Louis union. 'No talks are scheduled with the union,' said Gillan, who is also vice president for Boeing Air Dominance, the division for the production of several military jets, including the U.S. Navy's Super Hornet, as well as the Air Force 's Red Hawk training aircraft.
