Panchkula: In a major crackdown on traffic violations, the Panchkula police intensified their road safety campaign, especially targeting drunk driving. Over the past four days, 96 challans were issued under the 'drink and drive' offence by the traffic police, as part of a district-wide special drive initiated under the directives of Police Commissioner Sibas Kaviraj.
Special checkpoints were set up across the district with a focus on reducing road accidents and ensuring public safety. The Sec-5 police station area, known for its cluster of nightclubs, is under heightened surveillance. With increased nighttime activity, the police deployed five special night checkpoints staffed by 35 police personnel to maintain law and order in the area.
Additionally, continuous patrolling is being conducted using a combination of 1 Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV), 2 Police Control Room (PCR) vans, 1 Durga Shakti women's safety vehicle, and 4 rider motorcycle patrol teams.
The aim is not just to enforce the law but also to ensure the safety of visitors and swiftly address any untoward incidents.
Under the leadership of ACP traffic Sukharpal Singh and traffic SHO inspector Sunil Kumar, six specialized 'Drink and Drive' checkpoints were set up. Using alco-sensors, over 1,600 drivers were screened. Out of these, 96 were found driving under the influence of alcohol and were promptly issued challans.

Delhi: Man who killed his parents, brother held while attempting suicide
Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI) A 22-year-old man, who killed his parents and elder brother in their house in south Delhi's Maidangarhi area, has been apprehended while he was trying to take his life at the AIIMS Delhi Metro Station, the police said on Thursday. The accused, identified as Siddharth, is suspected to be struggling with mental health issues, the police said, adding that they have recovered documents and medications indicating that he has been receiving psychiatric treatment for the past 12 years at various mental health institutions. 'He was arrested at the AIIMS Delhi Metro Station on Thursday evening while attempting to jump off the platform. Police and security guards noticed him and rushed to save him. When asked why he wanted to take the extreme step, he confessed to killing his father, mother, and brother," a senior police officer said. The deceased were identified as Prem Singh (around 45-50), his wife Rajani (40-45), and their elder son Ritik (24), the police mentioned. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan said the police received a PCR call about the incident around noon. A team from the Maidangarhi Police Station rushed to the scene and, upon entering the premises, found Prem and Ritik lying in a pool of blood on the ground floor. Rajani's body was discovered on the first floor. 'The crime and forensic teams were called in for inspection. The scene was preserved, evidence collected, and photographs of the bodies taken before further medico-legal formalities," the DCP said. According to a preliminary probe, Siddharth, the younger son of the family, was reported missing earlier. Further inquiries revealed that he allegedly confided in someone that he had killed all three of his family members, stating that he 'would not stay here anymore." During a search of the house, treatment documents and medications belonging to Siddharth were found. The police indicated that the records showed he had been receiving treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and 'aggressive behaviour" for over a decade. 'His history of psychiatric treatment suggests long-standing behavioural issues," a senior officer said. Investigations also indicated that Siddharth had strained relationships with his family due to his condition, the officer added. The officer further noted that the house has been secured and the bodies sent for post-mortem. Subsequently, a case of murder has been registered. Meanwhile, neighbours expressed shock over the triple murder. 'The family often had conflicts due to the father's alcoholism," claimed Mohammad Shakeel Khan, a lawyer. 'Whether Siddharth is involved in the murders or not can only be determined after a thorough police investigation," Khan further noted. Mukesh Tiwari, another neighbour, described the family as 'quiet and decent." 'They seemed like decent people, at least to my knowledge. It was a family matter, and we weren't very close. I learned about it around 2.30 pm," he said. Tiwari mentioned that Siddharth had run away from home a few times but always returned eventually. 'The rest of the family had jobs; they were decent, working people and were never involved in any conflicts," he added. Man on the run after parents and brother found with their throats slit
A 22-year-old man, said to be suffering from mental illness, allegedly slit the throats of his parents and his elder brother before bragging about it to his friends in Delhi's Maidangarhi area on Wednesday evening. The police identified the dead as Prem Singh (50), his wife Rajani (45) and their elder son Ritik (24). Around 6.30 pm, accused Siddharth, who is on the run, allegedly came out of his house, and told his friends that he has 'dealt' with his family and is now running away. His whereabouts have been unknown since then, police said. 'Prima facie it has emerged that he had disclosed to someone that he had murdered his family and would not live there anymore,' DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan said. Police said that in a PCR call received around 7 pm on Wednesday, they were informed that a man had been found lying in a pool of blood inside house number 155 at Satbari Kharak village in Maidangarhi. The body was allegedly of Ritik. 'When a police team reached the spot, three persons were found dead,' the DCP said. Police said that while Rajni's body was found on the first floor of the house, Ritik and Prem were found dead on the ground floor. 'Prem's body was on the floor, on the foot of a single bed. Ritik was found with his throat slit on the same bed,' said an officer, adding that the murder weapon, a knife, was found squeezed on the side of Rajni's body, with blood oozing out of her neck. During the probe, police claimed to have found documents and medication, suggesting Siddharth's prolonged treatment of OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder) and anger management issues. 'Documents found have revealed that Siddharth was undergoing treatment at multiple mental health institutions since the last 12 years. He was suffering from OCD and aggressive behavioural patterns. It has also come to light that he was not very fond of his family due to psychiatric issues,' the DCP said. 'Local residents claimed that the family was always worried as Siddharth would run away from home and won't return for days. He also had frequent arguments with his family and allegedly consumed drugs,' said an officer.
