Chandigarh: Taking note of gangsters and small-time criminals firing gunshots to intimdate people participating in the auction of liquor vends, Haryana Police have announced that they would enhance the deployment of emergency response vehicles (ERVs), which are units that respond to emergency calls made to the police control room. Police have also that they have identified 4,900 notorious elements, including persons with a criminal history, to be put under direct surveillance to check their movement and activities to prevent crimes and anti-social activities. All this came to light during a meeting chaired by Haryana director general of police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapoor with senior officials on Sunday evening. During the meeting, he issued directions to officers to enhance the operational efficiency of ERVs. He said ERVs were the "face" of Haryana Police, and their primary responsibility was to respond promptly and act effectively upon receiving information about any incident. It was informed in the meeting that approximately 4,000 police personnel are deployed with ERVs in the state. The DGP said a technical audit of ERV operations was necessary and suggested that technical support could be sought from the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC). He instructed senior officers to regularly inspect ERVs and assess key metrics such as response time, time of arrival at the incident spot, and the subsequent action taken. The DGP issued clear instructions that strict legal action must be taken under a policy of zero tolerance against offenders. "Anyone exploiting the public, issuing threats, or engaging in illegal extortion must face stringent legal consequences," the DGP said in the meeting. She mentioned that liquor vend auctions will be conducted over the next month, and heightened vigilance was needed in four districts—Bhiwani, Hisar, Rohtak, and Yamunanagar. To ensure fearless participation by contractors in the auction, DGP Kapoor directed all district police chiefs to build a sense of trust among vendors and conduct regular blockades and intensive surveillance drives. He instructed coordination with the excise department to develop an effective plan and to keep a close watch on miscreants throughout the auction process, which will continue until June 30.

He said that the ERV represents the 'face' of Haryana Police. Its primary responsibility is to respond promptly and act effectively upon receiving information about any incident. An official statement issued here said that during the meeting officials informed that approximately 4,000 police personnel are deployed on ERVs across the state. DGP Kapur directed that superintendents of police should ensure an audit of ERV operations so that existing gaps in the system can be addressed and accountability of concerned police personnel can be fixed. He emphasised that a technical audit of ERV operations is necessary and suggested that technical support may be sought from the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing . He also instructed senior officers to regularly inspect ERVs and assess key metrics such as response time, time of arrival at the incident spot and the subsequent action taken. The DGP stressed that incidents of criminals escaping due to communication gaps must not occur. He said upon receiving the receipt of information at the control room, the concerned officer must immediately prepare a sealing plan and share it with local police stations and interstate check posts. The quicker this action, the higher the chances of apprehending the accused, he added. According to the statement, Haryana Police has prepared a list of approximately 4,900 active notorious elements in the state and Kapur instructed officials to take strict legal action under a policy of zero tolerance against such offenders. Anyone exploiting the public, issuing threats, or engaging in illegal extortion must face stringent legal consequences, he said. The DGP appreciated the drug de-addiction model implemented in Hisar Range and instructed that similar models be replicated in other districts. A dedicated officer should be appointed in each district to form a team of five to six members. The team should conduct a door-to-door surveys to identify persons affected by substance abuse and motivate them toward treatment and rehabilitation, he said. He affirmed that Haryana Police remains fully committed to maintaining law and order in the state and ensuring the safety of its citizens. Whether it's the deployment of ERVs, strategic planning of control rooms, or execution of drug de-addiction campaigns the state's police is diligently and efficiently discharging its responsibilities in public interest, he said.

Panchkula: A group of 15-20 youths, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, created a ruckus outside the Morni police post on May 24 night, misbehaving with police personnel and obstructing a govt vehicle. In his complaint, sub-inspector Harender Kumar, in-charge of Morni police post, claimed that he was on a night patrol duty along with his team in a vehicle. Around 7.30pm, near the Balg village turn on Tikkartal Road, they found three motorcycles parked on the roadside and saw 3-4 boys consuming alcohol in an open area nearby. Upon questioning, the boys claimed they were local residents of the Morni area and left after an argument. Later, around 11pm, the police team returned to the Morni post after conducting further checks in Katli and Palasra areas, only to find the same youths, now accompanied by others, gathered outside the police post. As soon as they spotted the police team, the group began shouting slogans, arguing, and obstructing the vehicle. Addressing policemen in a review and briefing session at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, she commended the ERV staff for this achievement but also stressed the need for continuous improvement and consistency in performance. Himadri issued key directives to the in-charges and drivers of 19 ERVs, 11 PCRs, 29 Riders, and 24 quick reaction teams (QRTs). Addressing the gathering, the DCP emphasised that all units must remain on high alert at all times to prevent any untoward incident. During the session, DCP Kaushik instructed officers and personnel to keep a close watch on suspicious persons and vehicles. She also ordered stricter vigilance at city checkpoints. "Negligence during patrolling will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken in such cases," she warned. The DCP stressed the importance of public interaction, directing officers to maintain politeness and patience during vehicle checks. "Respectful and professional behaviour builds public trust and strengthens the image of the police," she said. 5 students booked for assaulting 3 cops at Faridabad checkpost

Faridabad police have booked five students of a private university for allegedly ramming their car into a police patrol vehicle, assaulting three police personnel, and fleeing after being intercepted following a chase, officials said on Tuesday. The incident took place around 4.50pm on Monday near Pebble Downtown Mall in Sector-12, when the students, travelling in a Maruti Suzuki Baleno car, hit an emergency response vehicle (ERV) stationed for routine vehicle checks. The injured officials were sub-inspector Sube Singh, assistant sub-inspector Krishan Kumar, and special police officer Bhura Singh, who sustained cuts, bruises, and blunt force trauma, said police. After the collision, the suspects were chased and intercepted nearly a kilometre away near a restaurant. However, they allegedly assaulted the officers and managed to flee, said Inspector Sunil Kumar, station house officer of Central Faridabad police station. Kumar said the suspects are students at a prominent private university in Sector 43, Faridabad. 'Looking at the entire scenario, circumstances, and behaviour of the suspects, it seems that they were intoxicated,' he added. Police said alerts were flashed to nearby stations, but the accused escaped into a bylane. A video recorded by the injured sub-inspector reportedly helped identify the suspects, and arrests are likely soon, Kumar added. On complaint of the injured ASI, an FIR was registered against the suspects under sections 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 190 (unlawful assembly ), 191(2) (rioting), 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 324(4) (mischief causing damage) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Faridabad Central police station on Tuesday.
