Barcelona star responds to fan backlash after Inter defeat

Yahoo08-05-2025

Barcelona star Ronald Araújo has taken to social media, to respond to the widespread criticism aimed in his direction on the back of the club's Champions League exit.
The name of defender Araújo has of course taken its place centre stage in the headlines in Catalunya's capital over the last couple of days.

Unfortunately for the Uruguayan, though, as much comes for altogether less than positive reasons.
In the aftermath of Barcelona's treble hopes being brought to an end in heartbreaking fashion at the hands of Inter Milan, Araújo has been singled out as heavily to blame.
After being introduced off the bench at San Siro, the 26-year-old failed to cover himself in glory en route to Inter netting their third and fourth goals of the evening.
And the Blaugrana faithful have since not allowed Araújo to forget as much, with many having gone as far as to call for the stopper to depart the club at the earliest opportunity.

Such 'fans', on Thursday, will therefore no doubt be interested to hear of Araújo providing his response.
In a heartfelt post on his official Instagram account, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, the South American wrote:
'I accept and acknowledge this. I've never been one to hide, and I never will.
'It hurts to be out, but it doesn't end here. We worked, fought, and gave it our all in a tough tie. It wasn't enough, and that hurts.
'But I also feel pride. Pride in this team. In my teammates, in the crest we represent, and in every Barça fan who was with us every step of the way. During 2025, we demonstrated, as a team and as fans, the winning mentality we have. El Clásico is coming up, and we're going to give it our all. We are Barça, we will come back stronger.'

Barcelona star opens talks over contract termination

Negotiations over a potential contract termination have been kicked into gear between La Liga giants Barcelona, and the entourage of Clément Lenglet. That's according to Mundo Deportivo, who have this week provided an insight into the situation. Advertisement Defender Lenglet is for his part fresh off another loan spell away from Catalunya's capital, which saw the Frenchman spend the 2024/25 campaign with Diego Simeone's Atlético Madrid. Both parties are keen to continue their relationship into next season, albeit with a catch. Atlético are said to have made clear to Barcelona that they are not willing to part with any kind of fee to bring Lenglet back to Madrid. As much has left the Camp Nou brass in a difficult situation, desperate to get their out-of-favour stopper's massive wage packet off the club's books, whilst also under pressure from Lenglet himself to find a route to part ways for good this summer. Advertisement Deco and co, in turn, have been left with little choice but to take desperate measures. As per a report from MD: 'Clément Lenglet and Barça are negotiating the termination of his contract, which expires in June 2027.' It now remains to be seen if common ground can be found… Conor Laird – GSFN

Arsenal interested in signing Rogers, Brentford reject Mbeumo bid

Arsenal have added Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers to their list of attacking targets this summer. According to the Times, Rogers is admired by the north Londoners due to his versatility and Premier League experience. Advertisement Villa will want a substantial fee for the 22-year-old, even with Champions League football. Teamtalk say the Midlands outfit have also become the latest club to show and interest in Jadon Sancho after his loan to Chelsea from Manchester United ended. Sky Sports report that Manchester United have had an opening £55 million bid for Bryan Mbeumo rejected by Brentford. The Bees are willing to listen to offers for the 25-year-old, but have rejected United's bid of £45 million plus £10 million add ons, with the west Londoners looking closer to £60 million. Sky also say Manchester City are close to agreeing a deal with Wolves over the signing of fullback Rayan Ait Nouri. Advertisement The 23-year-old has only one-year left on his contract and both clubs have reportedly settled on a £33.7 million deal. Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, according to the Daily Mail. The forward has an £85m clause for Premier League clubs, active for the first ten days of July. According to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool have no intention of selling Luis Diaz this summer. The Colombian international has two years left on his deal with the Reds with Barcelona and Saudi Pro League sides Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr reportedly interested. Elsewhere, Football Insider write that Harvey Elliot is most likely to join a Serie A side this summer if the 22-year-old was to leave Liverpool. Advertisement Clubs in Italy and Germany are closely monitoring Elliot's movements, with the midfielder struggling for consistent game time on Merseyside. Finally, talkSPORT say in-demand forward Viktor Gyokeres is open to a move to Manchester United, despite the Red Devils' lack of European football. Any move for the 27-year-old would be dependant on sales, with Sporting Lisbon dropping their asking price to £60 million from the £85 million release clause.
