Suzanne Somers' widow confirms romance with her former co-star Joanna Cassidy

News.com.au9 hours ago

Alan Hamel is dating Joanna Cassidy – the former co-star of his late wife, Suzanne Somers – he exclusively tells Page Six.
'I don't know where this relationship is going,' he says of his tryst with the 'extremely accomplished' actress.
Hamel, 88, was photographed arm in arm with Cassidy, 79 – whom he tells us he's known for decades – in Malibu, California, earlier this week.
They were wearing matching Malibu Beach Inn baseball caps as they grabbed lunch at Broad Street Oyster Company.
'I have known Joanna Cassidy for over 45 years,' the Canadian film producer explains when we reached out for comment. 'Joanna was a guest star on [daytime talk show] The Alan Hamel Show in Canada in the '70s. She was a great guest and it was a dynamic show, and we liked each other, not romantically, but mainly with respect. Both of us were married at the time.'
He says the duo crossed paths again when Cassidy and Somers starred together in the 1985 miniseries Hollywood Wives.
'I ran into her in the mid-'80s many times during the production of Jackie Collins' Hollywood Wives,' he recalls. 'It was very cordial.'
As for how the pair reconnected, Hamel explains that his son, Stephen, played matchmaker.
'My son met Joanna at a screening and after a long conversation suggested to Joanna that she and me would get along and should meet. Stephen did not know we knew each other.'
Hamel knows he has the blessing of Somers – who died of cancer in October 2023, one day before her 77th birthday – since in her final days she urged him to move on from her.
'Don't mope around,' he recalls her telling him. 'Live your life. We will see one another after you cross over.'
While Hamel isn't sure where his romance with Cassidy will go, he has nothing but praise for the former model.
'Joanna is extremely accomplished,' he gushes. 'She is easily the hardest-working and most active actress in Hollywood for well over 50 years. She's a great mother to her adult children, turns up for many fundraisers for first responders and is staff for her four cats. She is no Hollywood BS, and we laugh a lot.'
The former TV host says of his current relationship, 'I'm fortunate to have Joanna in my life. Most men would love to have a Joanna in their life. I do not know where this relationship is going, but what I do know is that being in the cocktail hour of my life, I am blessed with a magnificent family – thanks to incredible Suzanne – a privileged life, and our business that we created 50 years ago.'
Hamel unveiled his wife's headstone at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City, California, in October 2024 to mark the first anniversary of her passing.
Cassidy – who also starred in movies from Blade Runner to Who Killed Roger Rabbit – was previously married to Dr. Kennard  Kobrin. They divorced in 1974, but never remarried.

'Disgusting': Mum reveals her son was uninvited to a birthday party after a late RSVP

Don't miss out on the headlines from Parenting. Followed categories will be added to My News. A mum says her child has been left heartbroken after he was invited to a birthday party. Only to be uninvited. Sarah shared her story on TikTok, revealing she 'honestly cannot believe' she even had to make the video in the first place. 'Put a finger down if one of your children got invited to a party, you text one of the parents on the invitation,' she begins. 'Bearing in mind it was a couple of weeks later because I'm crap at texting people to thank them for the invite.' The mother slammed the behaviour as 'disgusting' after her son was uninvited to a classmate's birthday party. Image: TikTok/ momof_4our RELATED: I'm asking my kid's teachers to do unpaid party admin "The parent lied" She explained how excited her son had been about the party and getting to spend time with his classmates outside of school. Only, the mother hosting the party responded with a text Sarah hadn't anticipated. 'They respond and say the party has now been cancelled,' she recounted. But that doesn't appear to have been true. 'This said party took place yesterday. All of my child's friends were texting him saying, 'Why aren't you at the party?' 'How come you're not here?' 'We wanna see you,'' she explained. Sarah and her son were hit with a cruel realisation. The party had gone ahead. 'The parent lied. Lied and said the party was cancelled,' she said. 'Why invite my child to a party if you're gonna pretend it's not on anymore? I just don't understand.' Want to join the family? Sign up to our Kidspot newsletter for more stories like this. "This is on you." As a result, her son was left feeling excluded and confused. 'They all go to the same school. What did you think was going to happen? My child was actually really upset yesterday and I think it's disgusting behaviour,' Sarah shared. The comment section was divided. Some sided with the host parent, arguing Sarah should have responded and RSVP'd sooner. 'Should have replied earlier. It's so annoying when parents don't text back for numbers and parents have to pay according to numbers. They probably meant your invite is cancelled because you didn't reply,' one commenter suggested. Another agreed: 'You replied weeks late. Maybe they felt bad saying they can no longer come so just said it's cancelled.' 'To be honest this is on you. It's infuriating that parents do not respond for weeks," a third added. RELATED: A mum skipped the RSVP: what she did next was pure entitlement However, others were quick to call the move cruel. 'Vileeeeeee! I'd [have] turned up at the party,' one parent said. 'That's not fair, like your son was never going to find out. People just need to be open and honest,' a second pointed out. One commenter even suggested confronting the mum directly: 'I would have had to text the mum and ask why she lied. I wouldn't be able to help myself." Suzanne Somers' widow Alan Hamel dating her Hollywood Wives co-star Joanna Cassidy

Suzanne Somers' widow Alan Hamel is dating the late actress' Hollywood Wives co-star Joanna Cassidy. The Three's Company star had been married to producer Alan, 88, for 36 years when she passed away on October 15 2023, at the age of 76, following a battle with breast cancer. However, almost two years on from her death, Alan has a new woman in his life in Joanna, 79, who starred alongside his late wife in the miniseries based on the 1983 novel of the same name by Jackie Collins. Confirming his new romance with the New York Post's Page Six column, he admitted: 'I don't know where this relationship is going." The new couple were photographed arm-in-arm in Malibu on Monday (23.06.25). Alan added: 'I have known Joanna Cassidy for over 45 years. 'Joanna was a guest star on [daytime talk show] 'The Alan Hamel Show' in Canada in the '70s. She was a great guest and it was a dynamic show, and we liked each other, not romantically, but mainly with respect. Both of us were married at the time.' Alan previously recalled that despite his and Suzanne's "mad fights", they would never put a stop to their love. He told Page Six: "For the first few years of our love affair, we fought like mad dogs. But we always returned to our passionate love for one another. After one of our fights, Suzanne said to me, 'No matter how bad it gets, let's never break up.' And we never did." The TV host recalled that he and Suzanne would always hold hands when they were asleep and he would spend the early morning just admiring her before she woke up. He said: "We always went to sleep every night holding hands, and in the morning I would always awaken a few minutes before Suzanne and I would just lie there, staring at her beautiful face." Meanwhile, Alan previously revealed that he had been getting signs from Suzanne and eventually accepted that she was "safe" in the afterlife. He told Fox News Digital: "One day I'm in the kitchen with my family, and all of a sudden, Suzanne's favorite song comes on the audio system; the audio system wasn't even turned on. It's a Latin song, and it's written and performed by someone no one's ever heard of. It's a song we used to dance to in the kitchen. It just came on all by itself. And then, when it was over, that was it. The audio system stayed off. "Later that day, the fireplace started by itself. "It stayed on for an hour and then it turned off. "Then one day, a hummingbird flew into our house. It goes to our little breakfast nook where there's a photograph of Suzanne and me where we're looking at each other. The hummingbird hovers in between our two faces. Then it flies up and sits on top of the photo. "A few weeks later, I opened all the doors and windows and I saw the same hummingbird – they all have very distinctive colorings… I walked over and extended my hands. The hummingbird jumps into my hands, and she tucks in her little feet. All I felt was her belly. She felt safe."

‘Rip-off': Meghan Markle's pricey tea sparks outrage over cheap supplier

Meghan Markle has been branded 'Meghan Mark-up' after it emerged she is selling her herbal tea for three times the price. Meg's tea costing AU$17 for a dozen bags sold out within minutes of being restocked on her As Ever website last week. It can now be revealed that Meghan sourced her ingredients from American firm The Republic of Tea. But the company sells its comparable tea for between AU$17 and AU$21 for 36 tea bags – meaning Meg's offerings will set you back three times as much. Sources close to Meghan confirm Republic of Tea is her supplier but insist her blend is 'different' to what they offer. Royal expert Margaret Holder said: 'Customers are paying a considerable increase for Meghan's label. 'She is taking advantage of celebrity branding. But it's a case of Meghan Mark-up not Meghan Markle.' The Duchess restocked her Herbal Hibiscus Tea and Herbal Lemon Tea last Friday for AU$17 for 12 tea bags. They sold out within hours along with her AU$23 flower sprinkles and AU$43 limited edition orange blossom honey. But internet sleuths scoured the page source of the As Ever website tea and found the brand was listed as The Republic of Tea. Since it emerged online and on social media the brand has been changed to 'As Ever store'. The Republic of Tea sells a vast range of teas included one branded from Netflix show Bridgerton and ITV series Downton Abbey. Its headquarters are in California but factory is 2,000 miles away in Nashville, Illinois. As Ever has also launched its first alcoholic beverage with a 2023 Rose. The booze is set to be available from July 1 which has raised eyebrows as would have been Princess Diana's 64th birthday. Ex-palace spokesman Dickie Arbiter, speaking on The Sun's show Royal Exclusive, said: 'I don't think we should be surprised that anything she does and as far as bringing out a wine, it's going to sell for something like £20 or 28 US dollars (AU$43). It's a lot of money.' 'And if you're going to go into that sort of business, you've got to produce a lot of wine to make money. If her jam is anything to go by, it's going to be sold out in about ten minutes. 'How many bottles is she producing? Who's producing it? She's not a wine expert. So, you know why go into something that you probably know nothing about?' A spokesman for Harry and Meghan declined to comment. This comes as eagle-eyed royal fans have spotted a surprising blunder in Meghan latest Instagram post – despite the Duchess being praised for her 'attention to detail'. The photo, posted on the official Instagram page of her lifestyle brand appears to be a heartfelt thankyou to followers. But the image, believed to be taken in Meghan's kitchen in Montecito, California, seems to have accidentally revealed more than intended. At first glance, the post looks polished and charming. A handwritten note sits neatly in the centre of the picture on a marble work top, reading: 'You're beautiful. Full stop.' The note is surrounded by sprigs of thyme, two eggs, a rolling pin and scattered flour, with Meghan's hand peeking into the bottom left corner of the image. However, fans quickly noticed something that seemed out of place – a small black mouse cursor just above Meghan's hand on the left edge of the picture. The digital slip suggests the image may have been taken as a screen grab, rather than a fresh photograph. And, royal experts have claimed the Duchess is 'social mountaineering' herself to the top but has a lack of 'authenticity.' Their comments came off the back of the mum-of-two being interviewed by 'self-made' Emma Grede, co-founder of Skims with Kim Kardashian and podcast host for Aspire. The two women sat down for a chat, covering family life for Meghan and Prince Harry as well as her ventures after leaving the royal family. Speaking on The Sun's Royal Exclusive show, news commentator Samara Gill said: 'It was like the lack of authenticity in that interview was really palpable. 'Emma Greed, who was the interviewer, she's such a self-made East Londoner who actually really fought for what she has. 'She's really the brains behind a lot of big brands, the Kardashians etc, which is a little bit tawdry, but you know she really is someone who worked her way to be there. 'Meghan on the other hand really socially mountaineered her way to the top. 'So it's very difficult to take this authentic side that Emma was giving and this complete lack of authenticity that Meghan was showing in the interview, it was very hard to watch.' Royal author and broadcaster Hugo Vickers agreed, saying: 'The thing is, would nobody ever listen to Meghan Markle if it wasn't the fact she'd married Prince Harry?
