Man arrested for murder of partner, rape of her 16-year-old daughter
'The horrific ordeal began on Sunday, at approximately 02:00, when the suspect allegedly woke the teenager, claiming they needed to search for her mother at local taverns in Mundzedzi village. The woman, 36, was last seen on Saturday at a local tavern,' police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said.
'After failing to locate the mother, the suspect led the minor toward Vleifontein bushes next to the local cemetery, where he allegedly raped her. The suspect then instructed the traumatised teenager to return home.'
The teen immediately reported the rape to a community member, who contacted police. A rape case was opened, and the man was arrested.
'During questioning on Monday, investigators discovered the suspect had murdered the missing woman and disposed of her body in a pit toilet at a local school. The body was retrieved with assistance from relevant stakeholders, and the suspect now faces an additional charge of murder,' Ledwaba added.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe expressed outrage: 'This act of horrible crime represents the worst of gender-based violence - a man who was supposed to protect this family instead became their worst nightmare. That he would murder a woman and then rape her teenage daughter shows the depths of depravity we are fighting against,' he said.

‘I deeply regret the pain': Kgolo Mthembu apologises to estranged wife RHOD star Annie
RHOD's Annie Mthembu received a public apology from her estranged husband, Kgolo Mthembu. The reality TV star said she chose her children over marriage due to Kgolo's alleged battles with alcoholism and infidelity. Kgolo previously admitted to drinking two bottles of wine daily for two years. Reality TV star and businesswoman Annie Mthembu's husband, Kgolo Mthembu, has apologised to his estranged wife following the recent confirmation of their marital breakdown. This comes after Annie's recent interview on Engineer Your Life with Lungelo KM. 'No matter the personal struggles I was facing, there was never an excuse for dishonouring God's blessings. I deeply regret the pain I've caused you. As the head of the family, I let everyone down,' Kgolo wrote under a video clip of the podcast shared by Annie on Instagram. 'Annie, from the bottom of my heart, I wish you true love, healing and peace. Farewell, Pretty Wings,' he concluded. The reality TV star shared that it was a culmination of things that brought their union to an end, some including Kgolo's battle with alcoholism and infidelity and revealed that in the end she had to choose her children. 'When I started losing myself, chasing my marriage, trying to keep everything together, I stopped paying attention to my kids because I was focused on keeping my husband and myself together. They didn't deserve that, and they saw a lot of things that they should never have seen as children.' Annie expressed that the thought of admitting her husband's unfaithfulness felt like she was not good enough. 'In admitting that I was being cheated on, I felt like I was saying 'I was not good enough'. I was highly embarrassed. I was not in a good place. I just wanted to protect all of us from this, even though I was not being protected.' Despite her awareness of Kgolo's infidelity, Annie felt compelled to maintain the facade of their family unit, hoping to shield her children and herself from further heartache. Reports of alleged infidelity on Kgolo's part made the rounds online during the filming of the reality show, and Annie denied the allegations. In the interview Mthembu previously did on the Lungelo KM podcast, Annie did not say whether the rumours of infidelity were true, but said: 'We've been through sh**, not necessarily to say that he's cheated but because of the behaviours that I had to unlearn, I've put him through sh**.' Kgolo recently spoke candidly on Mo and Phindi's podcast about his healing journey and the personal challenges he has faced. He revealed that he reached a point where he was no longer taking accountability for his life or business. 'I was drinking two bottles of wine every day for two years. I wasn't big on substances. I was big on alcohol. I overdid it, and I made lots of mistakes,' he admitted. The couple tied the knot in 2021, and their lavish wedding was featured on the Real Housewives of Durban. Speaking about his relationship, he said that things were not in a good place. 'There is no way you can be someone's role model, lover, or hero and one day become an animal. You can't give someone love if you don't love yourself,' he said. 'You also need to have patience with the people you've let down. They don't have to forgive you right away. Expecting them to do so is unfair.' On the Engineer Your Life podcast, Annie said the cracks were already showing while filming season 2 of RHOD, ultimately leading to her decision not to return for season 4. Previously speaking to True Love, Annie revealed why she opted to leave the Real Housewives franchise. 'I actually think that after season two, I'd already felt in my spirit that I didn't want to return to the show. I think season two was a very difficult season for me, and I think it took a toll on me. But then I realised that if I didn't come back after season two, I wouldn't really have the opportunity to give viewers a better perspective on who I am because they didn't see who I was in the first two seasons. 'And I said, 'Before I leave this platform, let me just show people who I really am. Not just this confrontational hun or whatever I came across as during the first two seasons. Let me show them that I'm multi-layered and there are reasons for me being the way I am. So, after season three, I felt like I achieved that.'

Serial Carlisle shoplifters face jail as they run out of chances
JAIL terms have been handed to two prolific shoplifters from Carlisle who refused to mend their ways - despite being given a chance to reform last month. Danielle Nicholson, 35, admitted five thefts and a police assault, which involved her kicking an officer as she and her co-defendant Matthew Thompson, 31, were being detained. He admitted eight thefts. The latest appearance at Carlisle's Rickergate court came just weeks after defence lawyers told magistrates the defendants, of Mayfield Avenue, Carlisle, can be rehabilitated. The targets for crime spree, which happened over several weeks, included: Cranstons at Orton Grange, where the defendants twice stole meat, with a total value in excess of 200 on days in June and July; TK Maxx in Carlisle city centre, where they stole two handbags on August 1. The Co-op store in Central Avenue, Harraby. Booths supermarket in Penrith, where they stole booze worth £460 on July 1. Thompson admitted taking a tips jar from the Central Café in Harraby on June 19. It contained around £200. He also stole from a Spar Shop on Petteril Bank Road, Carlisle, and the One Stop store in Fusehill Street, Carlisle. Anthony Wilson, for Nicholson, said the thefts had been 'joint enterprise' offending but it was Thompson who was the 'main player.' Nicholson had just 'gone along with it,' he said. READ MORE: Prolific Carlisle shoplifters given chance to mend their ways Referring to the police assault, Mr Wilson said Nicholson felt that the officer who arrested her was 'aggressive' as he put her into handcuffs. 'She was being taken to the van and Mr Thompson was being pava sprayed,' said the lawyer. 'She took the opportunity to lash out and kick him [the officer] on the legs, thankfully causing no injury.' The defendant was concerned that a jail term would lead to the loss of her accommodation, said Mr Wilson. He added that the background for Nicholson included the recent death of a family member. The lawyer said: 'Her son, aged 19, has just come back into his life and she wants to be a better role model for him. She wants to stop offending.' Mr Wilson added that Nicholson had a lot of problems in her life and wants to work with the Probation Service to get the help she needs. Duncan Campbell, for Thompson, said the defendant had suffered from depression, a problem he had sought in the past to address by using cocaine. 'He dealt with that himself,' said the lawyer. 'He no longer takes it. But unfortunately, when everybody who has had the habit of using cocaine has to pay for that and he was under pressure to pay off those debts. "Hence the thefts. 'He needed to pay off people who were otherwise threatening to cause him harm. It's a sad story in that respect.' Nicholson was jailed for ten weeks and Thompson for 12 weeks. In both cases, the sentences included previously suspended jail terms. Both were told to pay compensation to the shops they stole from.

Homeless man ‘killed pregnant woman and decapitated her partner'
A homeless Australian man has been accused of murdering a pregnant woman and decapitating her partner in a 'targeted attack'. The bodies of Athena Georgopoulos, 39, and 50-year-old Andrew Gunn were discovered by police in a housing unit in the Melbourne suburb of Mount Waverley at 9.55pm on Monday. Ms Georgopolous was five months pregnant with her daughter when she was killed and had been eagerly looking forward to becoming a mother, her family said. The head of Mr Gunn was found impaled on a spike near the crime scene, police sources told the Herald Sun newspaper. Graffiti that read 'karma is not a menu' and 'betrayal, unpredictable, inevitable' had been sprayed on the side of the building in yellow and black paint. Detectives are investigating whether there is a connection between the graffiti and the attack. Armed police arrested Ross Judd, a 34-year-old homeless man, at a railway station almost four hours after the couple's bodies were found. 'The person that we took into custody was in the company of two large dogs, I think that would look fairly obvious to people who may have been in the area,' Det Insp Dean Thomas, of the homicide squad, said. Police said the suspect was known to the victims and that the attack appears to have been targeted. But the exact nature of the relationship between the victims and the suspect is not yet clear. Mr Judd has been charged with two counts of murder and appeared at Melbourne magistrates' court for a short hearing on Wednesday morning. Prosecutors requested another 10 weeks to prepare their evidence because of the complexity of the case and delays in carrying out post-mortems on the victims, the BBC reported. Mr Judd's lawyer asked that her client be assessed by a prison nurse to follow up on his medication. Police received a call on Monday evening requesting a welfare check at the Mount Waverley unit after 'some yelling' was heard from the property. In a second call a few minutes later, it was reported that the bodies had been found by a neighbour. CCTV footage showed a barefooted man dressed all in black walking away from the unit a short time after the incident. Patty Dilveridis, Ms Georgopoulos's aunt, said her niece had been planning her new life as a mother and had been with Mr Gunn for approximately three years. 'She was so looking forward to having a baby, because she was 39 [and] she never thought she could have one,' Ms Dilveridis told the Herald Sun. Ms Georgopoulos, a former customer service representative for several electricity and insurance companies, was the primary carer for her mother Petty Georgopoulos. She was set to face a plea hearing at Ringwood magistrates' court on Sept 1 on car theft and burglary charges, the Daily Mail reported. Her mother paid tribute to her daughter in a post on social media. 'My little heart, you left life so unfairly that I still cannot believe it,' she wrote on Facebook. 'In recent days you were so happy – we made dreams together for our little granddaughter that you were going to bring into your life. 'And suddenly, everything was erased in one night, when an [alleged] murderer cut the thread of your life and of my little granddaughter's life that you were going to bring into the world in four months. 'No matter how much they separated us, I will never stop loving you. Forever. Until we meet again, my little girl, in the light of the angels.' Solve the daily Crossword
