F6 Group Launches to Unite VC and Startup Support Across MEA

Fintech News ME06-08-2025
F6 Group, a newly established entity combining venture capital and entrepreneurial support, has officially launched, comprising two key components: F6 Ventures, a newly formed seed-stage investment firm, and Flat6Labs, a well-established startup accelerator platform in the Middle East and Africa.
The formation of F6 Group marks a development in a 14-year legacy, aiming to deliver more focused investment strategies, broader regional engagement, and enhanced support mechanisms for founders and ecosystems throughout the region.
Central to this shift is the launch of F6 Ventures, the Group's dedicated venture capital arm.
With over US$90 million in assets under management across six funds and a combined track record of over 300 investments, F6 Ventures will focus on pre-seed and seed-stage investments across the Middle East and Africa.
The firm aims to address a persistent funding gap at the earliest stages of startup development.
Co-founded by Dina el-Shenoufy and Ramez El-Serafy, the firm builds on the work of Flat6Labs, previously under their leadership.
It intends to support early-stage technology-driven innovation and founders across emerging markets.
'F6 Ventures marks a new era in our journey, bringing focused capital and sharper execution to support the region's boldest founders,'
said Dina el-Shenoufy, Co-Founder and General Partner at F6 Ventures.
'We are extending our commitment to early-stage startups to help them scale from idea to impact.'
Headquartered in Cairo, with offices in Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Amman, Tunis, and Nairobi, F6 Ventures is supported by a team of regional partners including Eyad Albayouk, Ryaan Sharif, Rasha Manna, Walid Triki, and Christine Namara, each bringing experience across venture capital, entrepreneurship, and ecosystem development in the region.
Flat6Labs, meanwhile, continues as a standalone brand within F6 Group, with Yehia Houry appointed as its new CEO.
The platform will continue to lead on founder support and innovation programmes across emerging markets, with a sharpened focus on programme delivery and ecosystem development.
Flat6Labs remains one of the region's most prominent platforms for early-stage support and startup programme implementation.
The Group is chaired by Hany Al Sonbaty, with Dina el-Shenoufy serving as CEO, providing strategic alignment across its investment and support activities.
Looking ahead, F6 Ventures plans to launch additional regional funds across Africa, the GCC, and the Levant, with an ambition to expand assets under management to US$200 million and back over 200 startups in the next five years.
F6 Group brings together capital and entrepreneurial programming under a single structure to serve startup ecosystems across emerging markets.

Mubadala Capital Finalises Take-Private of CI Financial

CI Financial has been officially taken private by Mubadala Capital following the completion of all necessary approvals, effective 12 August 2025. The deal, structured under a statutory plan of arrangement governed by Ontario's Business Corporations Act, sees Mubadala Capital purchasing all outstanding common shares of CI Financial for C$32 per share, valuing the company's equity at approximately C$4.7 billion and implying an enterprise value near C$12.1 billion. The transaction adds CI Financial to Mubadala Capital's expanding roster of asset management businesses, bringing its total assets under advice, management, or administration to over US$430 billion. CEO Kurt MacAlpine, who is rolling over all his equity into the continuing entity, emphasised that CI has gained a partner aligned with its growth aspirations, one that will help accelerate its expansion and unlock greater value for clients. CI Financial will remain headquartered in Toronto and continue to operate under its existing structure, branding and leadership. Mubadala Capital has committed to maintaining its Canadian operations and preserving its independence from Mubadala's broader portfolio. ADVERTISEMENT By integrating CI Financial, Mubadala Capital strengthens its position in private wealth management and continues its push into North American markets. The firm's strategic expansion aligns with its ambitions to build a robust, globally diversified asset management platform covering private equity, credit, special opportunities, and wealth services. CI Financial's board, including a special committee of independent directors, had unanimously supported the transaction, highlighting the premium of C$32 per share—about 33 per cent above the prior closing price and 58 per cent above the 60-day volume-weighted average—as an excellent outcome for shareholders and a source of certainty amid volatile markets. With regulatory approvals now secured, the deal shifts from strategy to execution. CI gains access to substantial long-term capital and Mubadala's global network, positioning it to scale key initiatives such as the expansion of Corient—the U. S. subsidiary—with its distinctive private partnership model preserved. This landmark transaction marks one of the largest take-private deals in Canada in recent times. It signals Mubadala Capital's commitment to active participation in the private capital and wealth management space, building on previous large-scale investments such as Fortress Investment Group and others. Emerging trends point to growing interest from sovereign wealth funds and private investors in acquiring established financial services firms. The CI deal serves as a case study in leveraging private ownership to provide operational flexibility, strategic focus, and capital stability while benefiting shareholders through a significant premium.

South Africa: Mining's outlook for 2025 remains weak, unpromising

Statistics South Africa has released the mining production and sales figures for June 2025, and things look grim. Following the 3.9% rise in May, production in June only reached a marginal 0.2% month-on-month increase. 'The United States tariffs continue to be the elephant in the room, and it is increasingly used as a foreign policy instrument. Thus far, based on exemptions published by the White House in April, South African iron ore and diamond exports to the US will be directly affected by current tariffs,' said the Minerals Council South Africa in a statement. 'The tariffs imposed by the US on key South African trading partners – including China, the European Union, and India – along with any retaliatory measures they may adopt, will largely influence the demand for South African mineral exports,' it added. Production figures In terms of the individual commodities, coal production (m-o-m, +3.4%), manganese (+3.2%), chrome (+2.4%), diamonds (+1.1%), as well as the platinum group metals (PGMs) (+3.5%) all saw increases compared to May. A decline in production was registered in nickel (-5.9%), copper (-14.3%), iron ore (-9.9%), and gold (-2.5%). On a quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q) basis, mining production is expected to increase by 3.9% in Q2 2025, reflecting a notable improvement in output over the previous quarter. Of course, this is mainly a base effect, noting that in Q1 2025, mining production contracted by 4.1%. Year-on-year (y-o-y) total mining production increased by 2.4% in June 2025. Accounting for the increase in production were PGMs (+3%), coal (+3.7%), gold (+3.1%), chrome (+9%), diamonds (+3.7%) and nickel (+14.5%). A drop in production was observed in copper (-33.7%), iron ore (-1.7%) and manganese (-7.7%). In the first half of 2025, year-to-date mining production declined by 3% compared to the same period in the previous year. Unless there is a significant improvement in operating conditions and a strong recovery in commodity prices that boosts production by a significant margin, the sector's production growth outlook for the 2025 calendar year remains weak and unpromising. Sales figures Total mineral sales dropped to R67.3bn in June 2025 from R76.8bn the previous month, representing a 12.4% decline. On a y-o-y basis, total mineral sales declined by 14.4% with gold minerals sales leading the decline, with a drop in sales of 53.7% to R9.2bn. This was a surprise considering that on a year-over-year basis, the gold price was 44% higher in June 2025 compared to 12 months prior. The mineral sales performance (y-o-y) of the major commodities were as follows: PGM (+23.4% to R18.4bn in June), iron ore (+0.7% to R7bn), gold (-53.7% to R9.2bn), nickel (-36.4% to R785m), manganese (-33.7% to R4.2bn), copper (-31.7% to R566.7m), chrome (-13.9% to R5.1bn), and coal (-5.5% to R16.6bn). Omega Seiki Mobility to Invest AED92 Million in EV Assembly Plant at Dubai's Jafza

Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM), a leading Indian electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced the launch of its first overseas electric vehicle assembly plant in Dubai's Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), committing AED92 million (US$25 million) over the next five years. The move aims to accelerate the company's global expansion and meet rising demand for low-emission transport in the Middle East and Africa. Covering 42,000 square feet, the facility will assemble OSM's range of electric two- and three-wheelers and serve as a storage and distribution hub for auto components and spare parts. Operations are expected to begin by the end of 2025, with the initial phase creating over 100 jobs. Strategically positioned to serve export markets, the plant will enhance UAE-India trade ties in clean technology. Abdulla Al Hashmi, COO of Parks & Zones at DP World GCC, said: With the MENA EV market projected to reach US$14.5 billion by 2029, this facility brings innovative mobility solutions closer to the region and underlines Dubai's role as a global hub for the automotive sector. OSM Founder and Chairman Uday Narang described the launch as a significant milestone, highlighting Jafza's connectivity to over two billion consumers and its enabling business environment. He added that the company's goal is to make clean mobility accessible and commercially viable for partners across the region. While OSM's immediate focus is on EVs, the company also plans to introduce CNG-powered models for select African markets as a transitional clean fuel option. Its flagship products, the OSM Rage+ cargo three-wheeler and OSM Stream passenger vehicle, offer ranges of up to 270 km, fast-charging and battery-swapping capabilities, and IoT-based fleet management features. With more than 160 dealerships in India and over 20,000 vehicles on the road, OSM is positioning Dubai as its global launchpad for clean transport solutions, reinforcing the emirate's role in shaping the region's sustainable mobility future.
