Quentin Grimes put on a show in the 28 games he played for the Philadelphia 76ers after being acquired from the Dallas Mavericks at the deadline. He averaged 21.9 points and set new career highs, scoring 44 points in one game and then 46 points in another as he showed off his scoring chops.
As Grimes heads into free agency, the expectation is that the Sixers will bring him back, but one has to wonder at what price. Philadelphia's cap space is limited, but it can find a way to create more ahead of June 30 as it can dump the salaries of Andre Drummond, Kelly Oubre Jr., and create more money to bring back Grimes--and Guerschon Yabusele.
The Athletic detailed how much they believe Grimes is worth as free agency quickly approaches:
Known mostly as a 3-and-D guy, Grimes averaged 32.0 points per 100 possessions and shot 55.9 percent on 2s in 28 games as a Sixer, posting an 18.8 PER. However, the combination of his restricted free agency and the lack of cap space in the market should limit any sort of bidding war and put the Sixers in a strong position to keep him on a team-friendly deal.
His BORD$ number is a pretty convenient one as far as his next contract. This is the pay range that keeps his pay above the nontaxpayer MLE, thus icing out any rival offers, but maintains the Sixers' status below the second apron. Thus, a three-year deal for $55 million to $60 million seems like a reasonable endpoint.
For those wonder what BORD$ is, The Athletic described it as: "I developed a player valuation system called BORD$ (short for 'Big Old Rating Dollars') that uses analytics and playing time data from the last two seasons, projects values for the coming season based on a player's age and performance and then converts the projected performance and playing time into a salary estimate based on the projected cap in 2025-26 of $154.1 million."
Grimes' free agency will be an interesting one to watch. He did put up a ton of numbers, but it also came in meaningless games with the Sixers out of the playoffs down the stretch of the season. One has to wonder how he will fit next to Philadelphia's Big 3 when the time comes and the games matter out on the floor, but his ability to play off the ball should do wonders for this group when October rolls around to begin the 2025-26 season so it's worth it to bring him back.

'When he gets the rhythm, he will be top,' said Guardiola, who was asked if Reijnders could play deeper at times. 'We also have Nico Gonzalez there. Kova can come back. I see him more in the (higher) positions. Pace, in the final third.' The sheer size of Reijnders is something that has perhaps not been appreciated fully. He is a top athlete and that running power was showcased several times in how he drove forward into space and was able to cover the ground quickly on defensive transition. Reijnders' passing was sharp and incisive, rifling balls through the lines and to the small-space players at the edge of the box, or changing the direction of the attack by sweeping the ball out wide to the wingers. Phil Foden conceded that City had to keep the ball for longer because of the heat but Reijnders injected speed into their possession. While Rayan Cherki looked a little sluggish at times and sloppily gave the ball away on occasion, Reijnders' decision-making was close to perfect. He was positive without being overly ambitious, as seen when he powerfully surged past two players and slid a perfectly-weighted ball through for Savinho. Advertisement Later in the first half, he attempted a disguised through ball with his weaker left foot through a crowd of players that was millimetres from finding Doku down the inside of the full-back. Had the defender not managed to dive and toe it out for a corner, it would have been a contender for assist of the tournament already. He spoke this week about studying Kevin De Bruyne's game and watching Ilkay Gundogan up close to see how he can improve. Watching him link the play against Wydad, it was impossible not to see bits of both players in the way that he glided with the ball at full pace like the Belgian, and the way he spun and intelligently navigated out of tight areas like the German. Guardiola has conceded before that it can take players time to adjust to his instructions. The best compliment you could pay Reijnders is that it looked like he had been reading his new manager's playbook for years. He sees the picture so clearly and so quickly, which is why it looks like he has all the time in the world to pick the right pass. Small details like passing to the stronger foot of the receiving player or playing into the No 8 with enough pace that he can take it on the half-turn are things that can take time for players to learn but the most intelligent midfielders build that knowledge bank rapidly. It is instinctive and he looks to have the right amount of risk management to his game — something that should provide City's midfield with a healthy blend of solidity and adventure. Yes, it is only one game but given the angst about the De Bruyne-shaped hole in the squad, Reijnders looks like he will provide a ready-made starter to re-energise a midfield that looked like it has lost its steam during an arduous four-month period last season. Reijnders shifted to No 8 in the second half when Rodri came on as a substitute. It is likely that he will play most of his football on the other side of midfield but how will Guardiola balance that midfield if it is still some time until Rodri is ready to start regularly? Advertisement Deciding how he makes the collection of attacking talent at his disposal into a functional team is Guardiola's biggest challenge as Wydad, albeit against a second-string City back four, caused a lot of problems on the counter and should really have converted at least a couple of their breakaways. Cherki, Foden, Savinho and Marmoush all showed their ability to combine in tight areas but when Erling Haaland starts as the focal point, finding the right balance and variation around him remains a difficult task. Reijnders already looks like he will be a key part of making everything work.

The consensus No. 3 prospect of the NBA Draft does not appear interested in the team that owns the No. 3 pick. Rutgers star Ace Bailey has canceled a visit with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to ESPN's Jonathan Givony, just a week before the draft is scheduled to take place in Brooklyn. Bailey had reportedly been slated to fly to Philadelphia for dinner with the team's front office and a private workout. Advertisement The Sixers have reportedly not ruled out selecting Bailey after his refusal to meet with him, or even moved him down their board. The team scouted him throughout the 2024-25 college basketball season and interview him at the NBA Draft Combine. With that being said, Bailey is still an option for Philadelphia. Just because he hasn't come in for a workout doesn't mean the Sixers will not outright select him. President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey has never been shy about making big moves and Bailey qualifies as one when considering the immense talent he brings to the table. Morey selected Jared McCain in the 2024 draft and he did not visit Philadelphia for a workout. The team will have final discussions on who to select in the coming week and is unlikely to move down in the draft order next Wednesday, sources said. Bailey averaged 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in his freshman season with Rutgers.
