This Verizon customer followed all the rules – and still got burned

When it comes to online phone orders and trade-ins, especially pricey ones like iPhones, the risk of something going wrong seems higher than ever. T-Mobile users have long complained about devices disappearing during transit, but they are not the only ones dealing with this mess. Now, Verizon customers are sharing similar stories and they are just as frustrating. One Verizon customer recently vented online about a returned device that mysteriously vanished. It all started with a simple online order. The user bought an Apple device (which always seem to be the ones vanishing), decided to exchange it for another model, and followed the return process... or so they thought.
– mark1210a, Reddit, June 2025 About 10 days after sending back the device using the emailed label, tracking showed it had been received. But Verizon didn't send any confirmation emails about the return or refund. So, the user called customer service. The reps said they had no record of the return and pointed out that the two mailed labels were unused.
The customer explained that was because they used the emailed one – just like they had requested. The tracking number showed it was received, but Verizon said they'd have to check with the warehouse and opened a ticket.
– mark1210a, Reddit, June 2025 Seven days went by and still no update. When the customer called again asking for a supervisor, they were reportedly told nothing could be done – the return period had expired. End result? No phone, no refund, no way to escalate. Another phone lost in transit.Unsurprisingly, this wasn't an isolated case.
– AFunkinDiscoBall, Reddit, June 2025 So, where do all these missing phones actually end up? In someone's hands, that is for sure. For example, not too long ago, a $500,000 iPhone theft ring was uncovered, with T-Mobile 's missing devices at the center of it.
Meanwhile, over in Shenzhen, China, there's an actual building nicknamed "The stolen iPhone building." It has been linked to a global black market network trafficking stolen iPhones. Who knows – some of these vanished devices might've ended up there. And it is not always international crime rings – sometimes, the trouble starts closer to home. Earlier this year, a UPS employee in Florida was arrested and charged with stealing 171 iPhones worth more than $175,000. It is not just phones going missing, either – tablets and other tech are disappearing, too and customers are clearly fed up. So, if you want to avoid getting caught in a mess like this, there are a few things you can do. One of the safest moves is buying your device in-store, especially when you are spending over a grand on it. It is not always the most convenient, but at least you walk out with the phone in hand.Another smart move? Record yourself unboxing the phone as soon as it arrives. That footage could be a lifesaver if you ever need to prove something went missing or was never delivered.
Same goes for trade-ins – before you drop your device in the return envelope, grab a quick video of you packing and sealing it. That extra step could be the difference between a smooth process and a drawn-out fight with customer service.

Do you rely on AirTag (or similar tracker) when traveling abroad? Yes, I always use one. I use it once in a while. I haven't used it yet. A trip to sunny, flavor-rich and exotic Rio de Janeiro always sounds like a good idea, but traveling across continents often involves sudden panic attacks over the whereabouts of your luggage. That's where the AirTag (and similar trackers) come in late last year with iOS 18 .2, the Share Item Location feature in Apple's Find My app has become one of the most practical AirTag updates. It allows you to easily share a tracker's location with friends or even airlines. Many carriers around the world already accept these location links when helping passengers recover lost luggage. In Brazil, LATAM is now the first airline to officially support the feature, thanks to a partnership with a baggage solutions provider, covering flights in Brazil and South America, a report website now explains how passengers can share their AirTag location when checked baggage is delayed, complete with a detailed PDF guide. Travelers must already have an open baggage report and their case number, then use the Find My app on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac to enable location sharing and generate a link. This link can then be pasted into LATAM's self-service portal under the option to manage an existing report. Sharing ends automatically once the bag is found, can be stopped at any time, and expires after seven 30 airlines across 18 countries officially support Apple's Share Item Location function, allowing AirTag owners to collaborate directly with carriers for faster baggage recovery:You should know that AirTags can be also used with Android phones , but only those who are on iOS – such as iPhone users – can take full advantage of the clever item work fully only with Apple's Find My network, giving iOS users real-time location, directions, and precision finding. On Android, you can't track your own AirTags, but you can tap one with NFC to see its owner's info if it's in Lost Mode, or use Apple's Tracker Detect app to scan for AirTags moving with you. These features are meant for lost-item recovery and anti-stalking, not personal users looking for similar functionality should consider alternatives like Tile, for example.

I don't know about you, but I personally love smartphone deals that combine outright discounts with neat little freebies. Especially when the free stuff is a bit more valuable than a $20 or $30-worth protective case, and when the deeply discounted device happens to be one of the best phones money can buy... even at its regular price. That's clearly the case for the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered OnePlus 13, which normally starts at $899.99, thus undercutting the likes of Samsung's state-of-the-art Galaxy S25 Ultra by several hundred bucks. $150 off (17%) 5G, Unlocked, 256GB Storage, 12GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Processor, 6.82-Inch AMOLED Display with 3168 x 1440 Pixel Resolution and 120Hz Refresh Rate Technology, IP69 Water and Dust Resistance, Ceramic Guard Glass, 50 + 50 + 50MP Triple Rear-Facing Camera System, 32MP Front-Facing Camera, 6,000mAh Battery with 80W Wired and 50W Wireless Charging Capabilities, Black Eclipse Color, Free OnePlus Buds 3 Included Buy at OnePlus So, yes, you're essentially looking at saving a combined 250 bucks here, and you don't even need to trade anything in to fully take advantage of this killer new OnePlus Store promotion. In my book, that's another major strength of quite possibly the only ultra-high-end handset I'd consider buying right now. Why the only one? Because like I said, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is simply too darn expensive, and compared to something like the Galaxy S25 Plus, this bad boy is slightly larger, brighter, somehow equipped with a much bigger battery, and capable of charging way faster. In addition to a charger and a charging cable, the OnePlus 13 also comes with wireless earbuds included in the box right now. | Image Credit -- PhoneArena While I'd definitely be more than satisfied with the $749.99 model, which packs 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage space, I can also totally understand if some of you are leaning towards the $849.99 variant equipped with double the local digital hoarding room and an extra four gigs of memory instead. Both configurations come with free noise-cancelling earbuds, mind you, and neither of them requires a trade-in or anything else of that nature.

Here's how to watch the reveal of the Pixel 10, Pixel Watch 4 and more, but also what you should expect

Google's Pixel 10 event is just around the corner, coming this August 20. The Mountain View tech giant is expected to introduce the new Pixel 10 lineup, consisting of the base Pixel 10 , a Pixel 10 Pro, a bigger Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the book-style foldable Pixel 10 Pro Fold. We're also going to probably see the company's next smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 4, also introduced, as well as new earbuds. Here's how to watch the Made by Google event and what to expect. Google's Pixel 10 event is scheduled for August 20 at 1 PM E.T. and 10 AM P.T. As usual, Google will stream the event on its Made by Google YouTube channel, where you will be able to watch it live. When the event starts, the video will also be embedded here in this article for your viewing will be select press invited for live attendance. The lineup will consist of the Pixel 10 , Pixel 10 Pro , the Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the foldable Pixel 10 Pro Fold . The Pixel 10 series is expected to come with Google's first fully in-house chip developed with TSMC using a 3nm process. The new chip should be more powerful and energy efficient, and it may be able to perform better with local AI four phones are reportedly going to keep the same designs as last year, with a pill-shaped camera bump and flat front display. There will reportedly be slight differences in how the phones look, like, for one, it is said the phones may be a tad thicker and maybe a bit heavier. The base Pixel 10 may get a telephoto camera, which may be an 11MP 5x telephoto, similar to the one that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is rocking. The Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL are said to come with a 50MP main, 48MP ultra-wide, and 48MP selfie cameras. The foldable Pixel 10 Pro Fold may come with a 12MP ultra-wide and telephoto cameras and an 11MP selfie one. As for prices, despite tariffs, Google may keep the same pricing strategy for the Pixel 10 family this year. Also, we may have the AI Pro subscription for free for a certain trial period (maybe 6 months) with the purchase of the Pixel 10 . Rumor has it the Pixel 10 , Pro, and XL may be available for purchase on August 28, while the Pixel 10 Pro Fold may come a bit later, on October 9. The timepiece is said to be a little bit thicker but sporting smaller bezels. Reportedly, it will come in the same 41mm and 45mm sizes as before, but in the new Moonstone color as well. Meanwhile, the smartwatch may come with a larger battery and potentially a new wireless charging system for faster charging. It is said to come with Wear OS 6, which already debuted on the Galaxy Watch 8 and should presumably be on the Pixel Watch 4 out of the box. There could be some exclusive fitness tracking features on the Pixel Watch, though. Pixel Buds 2a leaked render. | Image Credit - Android Headlines Reportedly, we expect the Pixel Buds 2a to come at the event. Google launched the Pixel Buds Pro 2 last year, and we don't expect a new Pro earbuds model this time around. The A-series earbuds are usually cheaper, with some compromises made to achieve a lower price tag. They may come without active noise cancellation. The same Moonstone color has leaked for the earbuds as well, but not much is known about them at this point. Pixelsnap may be similar to Apple's MagSafe. | Image Credit - PhoneArena A report recently indicated that Google's Pixel 10 may come with a lineup of Pixelsnap accessories necessary to achieve Qi2 charging. Qi2 uses magnets for improved charging speeds and less heating, similar to Apple's MagSafe. The Pixel 10 series may adopt Qi2 with the help of a Pixelsnap. Reportedly, the Pixel 10 series may come with the magnets required for true Qi2 support (not Qi2 Readiness like on the Galaxy S25 Ultra). The lineup of magnetic accessories may be called Pixelsnap, and it should be pretty similar to Apple's MagSafe. Of course, AI is becoming a big part of every tech event nowadays, and we don't expect Google to miss out on the fad. Gemini is currently where Google is concentrating its AI efforts. It's possible that Google may include some exclusive features for the Pixel 10 .
