Police to question 'The Crown' actor over pro-Palestinian rally
Khalid Abdalla, who played Dodi Fayed in the popular show, said in a statement posted to his social media channels that London's Metropolitan Police Service had sent him a letter requesting he attend 'a formal interview,' in relation to 'the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign protest' Jan. 18.
'It remains to be seen if this will result in charges,' added Abdalla, who also starred in 'United 93' and 'The Day of the Jackal.' He added that the right to protest was 'under attack' in the the United Kingdom.
Abdalla was among tens of thousands of people who attended the demonstration, which was held the day after Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire deal to pause the war in the Gaza Strip, which has claimed the lives of more than 48,000 people, according to health officials in the Palestinian enclave.
Israel launched its military campaign after the Hamas terror ist attacks Oct. 7, 2023, which killed 1,200 people and saw around 250 taken hostage, according to Israeli officials.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed to NBC News via email that it had arrested 77 people on suspicion of breaching protest conditions after some of them broke through a police line that day. It added that 21 people had been charged so far.
As part of the 'ongoing investigation,' the force said it had 'invited a further eight people to be interviewed under caution at a police station.' British police typically do not confirm the identity of anyone under investigation.
Abdalla, 44, has attended several pro-Palestinian rallies in the past and has publicly called for a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Addressing the crowds at the Jan. 18 rally, Abdalla said, 'Tomorrow phase one of this ceasefire begins. It remains to be seen if the ceasefire will hold, or if the blood shed since it was announced augurs what it will become.'
In February, he was one of the signatories to an open letter written to the BBC by the advocacy group, Artists for Palestine UK, which criticized the broadcaster for pulling a documentary on Gaza's children.
The Palestine Coalition, the activist group that organized the rally, condemned the letter sent to Abdalla in a statement issued Monday, accusing police of carrying out an 'apparently coordinated attack against the Palestine solidarity movement.'
The force, it said, was 'endeavoring to halt public protest on the issue through harassment of those involved in the movement, and through increasingly draconian restrictions on demonstrations.'

It looks like Netflix subscribers are discovering a Sheridan Smith crime drama that first aired on ITV in 2012, based on a shocking true crime story. Mrs Biggs is climbing up the streamer's ranking of the platform's top 10 TV shows – making a convincing argument for a late summer binge watch. Sheridan Smith – who has so many British dramas to her name it can be easy to let one slip – stars in this five-part drama, which is based on the true story of the Great Train Robbery. The drama focuses on the relationship between Charmian, played by Smith, and her husband Ronnie Biggs, played by Daniel Mays. It follows everything from their first lovestruck meeting and the fateful 1963 train heist, to its aftermath and their eventual divorce in 1976, after Biggs fathered a child in Brazil. Biggs's ex-wife Charmian was also a consultant on the show. The show's writer and executive producer Jeff Pope said he wanted to set out a romantic tale, rather than a romanticised one. 'We show Ron as perhaps a little too wilfully optimistic and Charmian is the cold voice of reason throughout. It absolutely would be a danger of a piece like this to romanticise it,' he told The Guardian. 'It will get laughed out of court if it's a slushfest. In the first episode, they steal, he strikes her, we acknowledge the fact he had a criminal record; further down the line, Charmian has an abortion by another man. We don't pull back, we don't flinch.' In 1963, millions were robbed from a Royal Mail train en route to London from Glasgow. With the help of inside information, the gang of crooks toyed with the train signal system to get the train to stop so they could board. £2.61million was nabbed, which was worth about £62million in 2023. Most of the cash was never recovered. The gang hid at a farm after the robbery, but police found the spot, including a Monopoly board they had used which was covered in incriminating fingerprints. The evidence led to the eventual arrest and conviction of most of the gang. Praised at the time of its release for the quality of the acting and the excitement of the episodes, TV viewers have shared their positive reception over the years, as Mrs Biggs has been available on ITVX as well as Netflix. Hamas agrees to new Gaza ceasefire deal

The shepherdess, 50, and former husband Clive have been restoring a permanent residence for their nine children: Raven, Reuben, Miles, Edith, Violet, Sidney, Annas, Clementine, and Nancy. The farmhouse, known as Anty John's, had been abandoned for several years and Amanda acquired ownership of the property in March 2020 with aspirations of handing it down to their large family. Yet it hasn't been a straightforward process as the house, which sits near Ravenseat Farm, requires extensive work before they can relocate. The television personality turned to social media to provide followers with a much-needed progress report on the renovation as she confessed the housing project has brought considerable "pressure" Sharing on her Instagram, Amanda posted a photograph leaning against one of her horses and wrote: "The Summer holidays continue, reports Gloucestershire Live. "And finally we have got our hay made and the main part of our sheep clipped. Still some strays to round up so never can truly say that they're all done." Viewers will witness the transformation unfold on screen as Channel Four has officially greenlit the continuation of the family's television programme, Our Farm Next Door. The reality renovation programme has secured commissioning for two additional series on More4. In the third and fourth instalments of Our Farm Next Door, cameras document the Owen clan as they tackle their massive interior overhaul, mapping out layouts and designs whilst fitting plumbing and water systems. The programme also chronicles the everyday agricultural existence of Amanda, her former spouse Clive and their nine fast-growing offspring in the isolated Yorkshire Dales. Writing a heartfelt message to supporters, Amanda said: "I am beyond delighted that we have been given the opportunity to showcase this unique and beautiful part of our British countryside." She continued: "And for people to join us on our exciting journey through the restoration of our farm next door.
