LEGO brings back the Game Boy, brick by brick

LEGO brings back the Game Boy, brick by brick

Digital Trends4 days ago
An exciting new build has just been unveiled for LEGO fans, or equally for gamers who love a trip down memory lane. Heck, if you love LEGO and gaming, you're in for a real treat.
Why? Because LEGO and Nintendo have just taken the wraps off a near 1:1 scale Game Boy model building kit.

The new Game Boy kit comprises 421 pieces and includes memorable design features such as the + Control Pad, A and B Buttons, and SELECT and START, as well as other iconic Game Boy details such as the contrast adjustment and volume dial.
LEGO is describing the collectible kit as 'a testament to a classic era in gaming and with authentic details and much-loved features.'
Notably, the finished build includes the Game Pak slot and comes with interchangeable, brick-built The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and Super Mario Lan Game Boy Game Paks. But no, this particular Game Boy doesn't switch on, so you can't play them.
Another neat touch is that once built, you can choose from several different options for the display of your LEGO Game Boy, including the classic Nintendo start screen or one from either of the interchangeable Game Paks.
Nintendo's Game Boy handheld is one of the most influential handheld gaming consoles ever made, selling more than 120 million units globally since its debut in 1989. Its popularity cemented the Japanese company's reputation in video gaming, and was a launchpad for even greater successes, the big-selling Switch handheld among them.
LEGO's latest launch pays tribute to this cultural and technological phenomenon, offering what should be an engaging build experience that celebrates the legacy of the original Game Boy.
The Game Boy LEGO kit (product number 72046) is available for preorder now from Lego's online store ($59.99, £54.99, €59.99) and ships in October 2025. You'll also be able to get it from LEGO stores and select retailers around the world.
In another Nintendo collaboration, LEGO recently released a Mario Kart-themed build.

My favourite Switch 2 game is already AU$20.95 off on Amazon — get Donkey Kong Bananza for only AU$89

Recently, I wrote an article on the things I love about my Nintendo Switch 2, and I can now add Donkey Kong Bananza to that list. Apart from being the Switch 2's first major release post-launch, it's arguably the best reason to own the new console to date. Although the game shares some similarities to its development team's previous title, Super Mario Odyssey, Donkey Kong Bananza feels like an entirely fresh approach for Nintendo, thanks to its smashable environments and layered levels, as well as the dynamic movement of its title character. Best of all, Donkey Kong Bananza is just AU$109.95 AU$89 on Amazon right now, which is a solid saving of AU$20.95 on the RRP. Pretty good way to dodge Nintendo's next-gen price hike if you ask me... Donkey Kong Bananza is the first must-have title to release for Nintendo Switch 2 since Mario Kart World, boasting a vast subterranean world that's just waiting to be smashed to pieces. Join DK and Pauline on an epic adventure in search of Banandium Gems. Use DK's fists to smash through the terrain and Pauline's singing abilities to transform DK into various animal forms. Now only AU$109.95 AU$89 on Amazon. I've only played the game for a handful of hours so far, but I'm already hooked on its core mechanic of pummelling the environment to smithereens in search of precious Banandium Gems. In fact, I'm finding it hard to move forward in the game without smashing everything in sight — I may have a problem. But don't just take my word for it — in his Donkey Kong Bananza review, my colleague Anthony Spadafora praised the game's "destructible environments and unique visuals." He also described it as "the 3D Donkey Kong game fans of the character have always wanted", though he did note that there were "some camera issues" and "far too many Banandium Gems to collect in a single playthrough." Of course, those minor quibbles shouldn't stop you from playing one of the best Nintendo games in years — especially now that it's received a sweet 19% discount on Amazon, less than a fortnight after its release. New Trailer For The 4K Release of SHIN GODZILLA — GeekTyrant

Shin Godzilla is coming back to the big screen in 4K, so I'f you missed the movie when it was first released in 2016, now is your chance to experience on the big screen! GKIDS has acquired the North American distribution rights to Shin Godzilla , the acclaimed Japanese reboot directed by Neon Genesis Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno and Shin Ultraman director Shinji Higuchi. The distributor will be unleashing the film in U.S. theaters on August 14th, complete with its original Japanese audio, restored text cards, and for the first time in North America, a 4K remaster. A home release is also on the way. GKIDS President David Jesteadt previously had this to say about the announcement: 'With an incredibly timely story of people struggling to work together to stop imminent destruction, backed by some of the most explosive action scenes the franchise has ever seen, Shin Godzilla is a modern masterpiece. We are honored to play a part in bringing the film back for American fans, better than ever.' This marks GKIDS' first venture into the Godzilla universe since Toho's acquisition of the franchise in 2024. It also continues the studio's commitment to spotlighting essential Japanese cinema, following their nationwide theatrical rollout of Hideaki Anno's Love and Pop earlier this year. Shin Godzilla is a political thriller, a disaster film, and a bold reinvention of the Godzilla mythos. The movie follows the Japanese government as it scrambles to respond to a nightmarish creature's sudden emergence in Tokyo. As the beast evolves with each new form, so too does the crisis, escalating into a full-blown bureaucratic and existential nightmare. And then... the U.S. arrives, with a folder marked only: Godzilla. I loved this movie, so if you've never seen it, it's definitely one worth watching! The movie went on to become a legitimate phenomenon in Japan. Toho's Chief Godzilla Officer, Keiji Ota, shared: 'Shin Godzilla marked the first Japanese-produced Godzilla film since the release of Godzilla Final Wars in 2004. Upon its release, it became a social phenomenon in Japan, playing a pivotal role in reviving the Godzilla franchise after a 12-year hiatus, and we're thrilled to bring this landmark film back to the big screen in North America. 'For some, this will be their first time experiencing it — and there's no better way to feel the overwhelming presence, power, and terror of Godzilla than in a theater. Enjoy the film!' Shin Godzilla went on to gross $79 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese-produced entry in the franchise, a title it held until 2023's Godzilla Minus One took the throne. The film was also a critical hit, landing 11 Japan Academy Prize nominations and winning seven, including Picture and Director of the Year. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, this re-release is the perfect opportunity to (re)experience a truly wild, fun, intelligent, and visceral take on one of cinema's most iconic monsters.
