Simon Cowell 'fronting new talent show' to find next Little Mix

Daily Mirror7 days ago
Simon Cowell is searching for 'the next global boy band sensation' in a new Netflix show set to air later this year - and it's thought a girl band follow up won't be too far behind
Simon Cowell is reportedly set to front new TV talent shows to find the next big girl and boy bands.

The music mogul is already thought to have wrapped filming on a new Netflix show called Simon Cowell: The Next Act, which will follow the 65-year-old record producer as he tries to find "the next global boy band sensation".

In the past he has helped launch the careers of huge boy bands like One Direction and Westlife and is hoping to replicate this success again in 2025. The six episode series will air on the streaming giant in December, though it doesn't have a confirmed date yet.

And it's reported Simon will follow this up with another brand new talent show - this time to find the next big girl band. While on The X Factor, he catapulted Little Mix to fame and is said to be hoping to find the next budding female pop stars to turn into a global success.
A source told The Sun: "There's a huge amount of excitement around the boyband search show dropping on Netflix, which is expected to drop later this year. So it makes sense to consider a sequel with a similar concept but looking for the female equivalent.

"And if anyone can do it, it's Simon. After all, through One Direction and Little Mix, he helped deliver two of the biggest pop acts of the last two decades."
The follow up is not thought to have been commissioned just yet, as Netflix is said to be unlikely to seal the deal on a second series before the first has aired later this year. But it is thought that Simon has it in the bag. The Mirror has approached Simon's reps for comment.
It comes after Simon recently revealed why he wears rose-tinted glasses on set - and it isn't a fashion statement. The Britain's Got Talent judge shared: "I just found out according to the internet, I have a 'mystery illness."

He told fans on Instagram: "For anyone concerned, I missed two auditions at the end of one day, two weeks ago, because I do get migraines after long days in the filming lights. PS. This is why I wear these glasses!" So let's hope Simon didn't have to endure too many bright lights filming his latest TV show.
Headaches and migraines are frequently mixed up, but migraines specifically describe intense, pulsating pain often concentrated on one side. Typically, this pain can persist anywhere from two hours up to three days.
Some people endure migraines multiple times a week, whereas others encounter them less often. Further symptoms may include fatigue, food cravings, mood swings, and increased urination, although these tend to decrease in severity with age. The exact cause of migraines remains uncertain, but known triggers include anxiety, menstruation, unhealthy eating habits, and excessive caffeine intake.
TV Doctor Dawn Harper explained: "Migraines classically are one-sided headaches often associated with nausea, quite often actually make you sick. Usually, people feel they have to just lie down in a darkened room.
"They don't like the lights and they feel, they really are severe headaches, which last for several hours. And then some poor folk will last for two or three days. A migraine can be very frightening."

Ms. Rachel rails against Hollywood celebrities over Gaza silence following 'feud' with Olivia Munn

YouTube star and children's entertainer Ms. Rachel has come out swinging against Hollywood by calling out celebrities over their silence on Gaza. The former preschool teacher, whose real name is Rachel Griffin-Accurso, 42, has been an fierce critic against Israel's assault on Gaza and has emerged as one of the internet's most outspoken advocates for the thousands of Palestinian children that have been maimed and killed from the war. In her latest statement, the Maine-born performer railed against Hollywood in a post shared to Threads. She scathed, 'Celebrities - You won't get canceled for saying people in Gaza should not be starved to death.' She continued, 'We will remember your silence. And that you chose it over people's lives.' The statement came just one day after Rachel vowed not to work with anybody that has stayed silent on the Gaza situation. 'To anyone asking to with work with me who hasn't spoken out about Gaza: Thank you for the request. I'm not comfortable working with anyone who hasn't spoken out about Gaza. Much love and God bless,' she wrote. Not only does Ms. Rachel boast almost 16 million subscribers on YouTube, her self-titled show is also one of the most-watched shows on Netflix. Her latest comments on Gaza come after she found herself in a public clash with actress Olivia Munn. It began after Munn - who is mom to two kids - explained in an interview her personal preferences when it comes to the kind of children's content she allows in her household. 'I know kids love [Ms. Rachel], but the thing is, if I can't watch it, I'm not going to spend the rest of my life going crazy,' she said. Munn, 44, also shared that she avoids cartoons, noting that when her son Malcolm asked for Blue's Clues, she responded, 'Hell no. Not in my house.' She added that while her partner, John Mulaney, introduced their son to Spider-Man cartoons, she prefers live-action films like Spider-Man: Homecoming. 'If you want to watch the real-life ones, then we can watch that,' she said. 'It might be a little too old for him, but I can't take the cartoons.' While Munn's comments appeared to be more about her personal viewing preferences than criticism of any specific creator, it did not stop online speculation that it was a slight on Ms. Rachel. And afterwards, Ms. Rachel furiously hit back to express her disappointment at the coverage of her allegedly brewing 'feud' with the actress. In her latest statement, the Maine-born performer blasted Hollywood, writing, 'Celebrities - You won't get cancelled for saying people in Gaza should not be starved to death' The statement came just one day after Rachel vowed not to work with anybody that has stayed silent on the Gaza situation In response, Rachel commented directly on the social media posts of certain outlets, writing, 'I'd rather you cover my advocacy for kids in Gaza.' She later followed up with a post on her own Instagram account, sharing screenshots of those comments alongside a caption that read: 'WHO CARES?! 'I'd rather you cover me advocating for kids in Gaza who are literally starving, largest cohort of child amputees in modern history, thousands and thousands killed – no medical care, no education, no homes… do better!!!' she added. She emphasized that her frustration was directed at the coverage - not at Munn. 'Not against her at all and don't care that she doesn't want to watch the show - all my love to her and her family - disappointed in the outlets,' Ms. Rachel wrote. Since the start of the humanitarian crisis, Ms. Rachel has continuously used her platform to raise awareness about the conditions faced by children in Gaza, including lack of access to food, education, and medical care. Rachel has even made videos with Palestinian children who were able to escape Gaza - including three-year-old Rahaf who was left a double amputee after Israel's siege of the region. The children's entertainer has repeatedly said that her advocacy is non-negotiable - even if it comes at the expense of her career. 'I am fully willing to risk my career for this,' she stated in a video shared earlier this year. 'It is more important to me to speak out than to remain silent.'

Original Happy Gilmore cast now as long-awaited sequel airs on Netflix

Happy Gilmore 2 finally lands on Netflix as fans get another glimpse of Adam Sandler's iconic character Happy nearly 30 years later. Happy Gilmore 2 has finally landed on Netflix, with comedy lovers gearing up to watch the long awaited sequel this weekend. Adam Sandler reprises one of his most iconic roles, stepping back into the shoes of the wild ex-hockey player who discovers an unexpected talent for golf. ‌ Nearly 30 years after the original, the sequel finds Happy grappling with a sudden tragedy that pushes him to pick up golf once more - this time to support his daughter Vienna (played by Sunny Sandler) as she chases her dream of becoming a dancer. ‌ Packed with plenty of cameos and laughs, the movie hasn't yet received a Rotten Tomatoes score but is sure to delight fans of the first film, the Mirror reports. ‌ With many original cast members returning for cameos, let's take a look at what the stars have been up to over the past two decades. Adam Sandler The legendary comedian Adam Sandler starred in the original comedy and of course returns for the sequel as the washed-up hockey player turned golfer. ‌ Almost 30 years later, the 58-year-old Sandler has become one of Hollywood's most successful comic actors, staring in hits like The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, Click and Grown Ups. He has also expanded his range with acclaimed dramatic roles in films such as Punch-Drunk Love, Uncut Gems and Hustle, along with lending his voice to Dracula in the popular Hotel Transylvania animated series. Away from the spotlight, Sandler has been married to Jacqueline 'Jackie' Sandler since 2003. The couple has two daughters, Sadie and Sunny, both of whom have appeared alongside their dad in the coming-of-age comedy You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah as well as Happy Gilmore 2. ‌ Christopher McDonald Christopher McDonald is widely recognised by fans as Happy's fiery rival, Shooter McGavin, a role he reprises in the sequel. His career also includes notable appearances in films such as Thelma and Louise - where he starred opposite his former fiancée Geena Davis - Leave It to Beaver, Requiem for a Dream and The House Bunny. ‌ Off-screen, McDonald has been married to actress Lupe Gidley since 1992, and the couple has four children: three daughters and a son. Julie Bowen Julie Bowen played Happy's love interest, Virginia Venit, in the original Happy Gilmore and has since become a household name for her role as Claire Dunphy on the hit ABC sitcom Modern Family. ‌ She portrayed Claire for over a decade, earning six Primetime Emmy nominations and winning two awards. Bowen returns for Happy Gilmore 2 and, off-screen, married real estate investor and software developer Scott Phillips in 2004. The couple has three sons, but Bowen filed for divorce in February 2018, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce was finalised later that September. Frances Bay ‌ Legendary Canadian comedian France Bay played Happy's grandmother in the original Happy Gilmore and become a beloved screen icon with memorable roles in shows like Happy Days, The Dukes of Hazzard, Cheers and Seinfeld. Following the first film she went on to star in the likes of Charmed, Grey's Anatomy and The Middle as well as films like Stranger than Fiction and The Wedding Planner. Unfortunately, Bay will not be appearing in Happy Gilmore 2 as she passed away at the age of 92 in 2011, due to complications from pneumonia. ‌ Allen Covert Allen Covert, a longtime collaborator of Sandler, played Otto, the homeless man who eventually becomes Happy's caddy in the 1996 film. He returns for the sequel, having also co-starred alongside Sandler in hits like Big Daddy, The Wedding Singer, Anger Management, and 50 First Dates. ‌ Covert has been involved in nearly all of Sandler's projects, either as a supporting actor or producer, and has announced plans to launch his own production company aimed at bringing R-rated comedies back to the big screen. He married Kathryn Ashley Hagstrom in 2006 but filed for divorce in 2019. Richard Kiel Known as the 'Gentle Giant' for his towering height of 7 feet 1.5 inches, Richard Kiel famously portrayed the James Bond villain Jaws in The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker. ‌ He also played Happy's intimidating boss, Mr. Larson, in the original Happy Gilmore film, but sadly will not appear in the sequel. Kiel passed away from heart disease on September 10, 2014, just three days shy of his 75th birthday. Kiel was married to Faye Daniels from 1960 to 1973, and then married Diane Rogers in 1974. They remained together until his passing, raising four children and welcoming nine grandchildren during their 40-year marriage. Ben Stiller ‌ A-list comedy star Ben Stiller played an uncredited role as the abusive elderly Hal, who torments Happy's grandmother in the original Happy Gilmore. Since then, Stiller has become internationally known for his roles in Zoolander, Tropic Thunder, Meet the Parents and the Night at the Museum franchise, as well as more dramatic parts in While We're Young, The Meyerowitz Stories and Brad's Status. In addition to acting, Stiller has directed several of his most iconic films, including Zoolander, Tropic Thunder, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. More recently, he has earned praise for directing episodes of the acclaimed Apple TV+ sci-fi drama Severance. ‌ Outside of his career, Stiller has been married to actress Christine Taylor since 2000. The couple, who have co-starred in multiple films, briefly separated in 2017 but reunited while living together during the COVID-19 pandemic. They share two children, a daughter, Ella, and a son, Quinn. Carl Weathers One of the most beloved characters from the original Happy Gilmore is Carl Weathers as Happy's coach, Chubbs Peterson, who famously lost a hand to an alligator. ‌ Weathers is also well-known for playing a fictionalised version of himself on Arrested Development. Before venturing into comedy, he earned fame for his iconic role as Apollo Creed in the Rocky series, as well as portraying Colonel Al Dillon in the original Predator alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. In recent years, Weathers made a major comeback starring as Greef Karga in the Star Wars spin-off series The Mandalorian, a performance that earned him an Emmy nomination. Happy Gilmore 2 pays frequent tribute to Weathers, who sadly passed away last year at the age of 76 from suspected atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. He was married three times and is survived by his partner of ten years, Christine Kludjian.
