Sai Sudharsan, who had stood tall for India in the first innings with a gritty 61, endured a nightmare moment on Day 4 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford as he fell for a golden duck in India's second innings.
His dismissal, eerily similar to one from a decade ago, brought back memories of Gautam Gambhir's first-ball exit in 2014 at The Oval.

England, having piled up a daunting 669 in response to India's 358, secured a commanding 311-run lead.
Chasing the deficit, India suffered a catastrophic start.
Yashasvi Jaiswal
was the first to go, falling for a duck on the fourth ball of the innings to
Chris Woakes
. In stepped Sudharsan, who was expected to anchor the innings alongside KL Rahul.
However, hopes of a rebuild were dashed almost instantly.
Facing Woakes, Sudharsan shouldered arms to a delivery that reared up just enough to take the bottom edge of his bat. The ball flew to second slip where Harry Brook completed a sharp catch, leaving India reeling at 0 for 2.
The mode of dismissal and its timing in a high-pressure series bore a striking resemblance to an episode from India's tour of England in 2014.

Back then, in the fifth Test at The Oval, senior opener Gautam Gambhir was dismissed on the very first ball he faced, attempting to leave a James Anderson delivery that clipped the edge and was caught behind by Jos Buttler.
That match ended in a crushing defeat for India, by an innings and 244 runs, and England clinched the five-Test series 3-1.
Now in Manchester, India find itself in similarly dire straits. With two wickets lost, the team faces a mammoth task to save the Test and keep the series hopes alive.

'He's got a really bright future': Patrick Kane breaks silence on Connor Bedard's rise, calls him the future face of the Blackhawks

Patrick Kane has voiced strong support for young phenom Connor Bedard (Getty Images) Three-time Stanley Cup champion Patrick Kane, a Chicago Blackhawks legend, recently weighed in on the growth and potential of 19-year-old phenom Connor Bedard — and his message was one of strong support. Speaking on the 'Breakaway with Pat Boyle' podcast, the former Blackhawks star, now with the Detroit Red Wings, acknowledged Bedard's early struggles but made it clear that the young center is on the right path. Patrick Kane praises Connor Bedard's maturity and mindset despite growing pains Patrick Kane, a Chicago Blackhawks legend, weighed in on rising star Connor Bedard's development, praising his skills, work ethic, and potential as the franchise's cornerstone for the future. "He's probably understanding a little bit more of what to expect on a nightly basis,' Kane said, noting how Bedard is adjusting to the physical and mental toll of an 82-game NHL season. Kane referenced his own rookie days, admitting it's normal for young stars to go 'five to seven games without producing' as they adapt to the pace and pressure of the league. Still, Kane emphasized that Bedard's flashes of brilliance are undeniable: 'He's got moments throughout the game where he has the puck, he makes plays that you're like, OK, not many guys can do that… Whether it's a move or a pass, the way he shoots the puck — I think he's got a really bright future." Patrick Kane highlights Bedard's character and hunger to improve What stood out most to Kane wasn't just Bedard's talent — it was his mentality. "He cares, and he wants to be great,' Kane said. 'That's half the battle.' The Mid Summer Check-In Across The NHL | 32 Thoughts That work ethic and mindset, Kane added, should ease any concerns Blackhawks fans may have about their franchise cornerstone. With 22 goals and 61 points in 68 games during his rookie season, followed by a full 82-game sophomore campaign with 23 goals, Bedard is already proving his durability and growth. Kane, once the face of the franchise himself, believes the Blackhawks are in good hands — and fans can rest easy knowing Bedard is committed to greatness. 'If I was a fan or part of the organization,' Kane concluded, 'he'd be the least of my worries.' Hamid's goal takes East Bengal into Durand Cup quarters

1 2 Kolkata: Moroccan newcomer Hamid Ahadad scored on debut as East Bengal FC subdued high-flying Namdhari FC 1-0 at the Salt Lake Stadium on Wednesday, becoming the first team to advance to the quarterfinals of this year's Durand Cup. The all-important goal came in the 68th minute when Namdhari goalkeeper Niraj Kumar missed the flight of a corner kick taken by another red-and-gold debutant Miguel Ferreira and Hamid — who replaced Greek forward Dimitrios Diamantakos seven minutes earlier — headed it home and send home fans in the stands into rapture. While Namdhari finished their Group A engagements with two wins and one loss, Oscar Bruzon's team — also on six points now — assured itself of topping the group by dint of head-to-head superiority and qualifying for the knockout stage with a game in hand. Wednesday's scoreline, however, barely reflected true narrative of the contest. Not only did East Bengal miss a chance to win by a much bigger margin, it could have also easily been a more remarkable debut for Miguel, who rejoined the Spanish coach Bruzon following their successive stint with Bangladesh's Bashundhara Kings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The Brazilian attacker was denied by the post not once, but thrice, in the first half itself. That East Bengal enjoyed almost 70% of possessions and Namdhari finished the game without having a shot on goal told a whole different story. Namdhari came into the match with back-to-back wins. But Bruzon started with four foreigners — Miguel, Saul Crespo, Diamantakos and Mohamad Rashid — in a move aimed at gaining early ascendancy. They duly started on the front foot, dominating the proceedings with consummate ease but their search for early goals failed to bear fruit. Miguel represented the team's attacking aspirations, hitting the post with his left-footed scorcher from 22 yards in the 21st minute. The Brazilian came calling again soon, but his two headers were denied by the woodwork again. Dominating with possession but without luck, Bruzon signalled Hamid to get ready and the Moroccan came, saw and changed the complexion of the game. Namdhari — who focused mainly on defending in numbers — tried to find a route back into the contest using their Brazilian striker Cledson Degol and Ghanaian defender Lamine Moro in set-pieces. But Bruzon introduced another debutant, Argentine defender Kevin Sibille, and Souvik Chakrabarti to ensure that their passage to the knockouts was not queered.
