Hamid's goal takes East Bengal into Durand Cup quarters
2
Kolkata: Moroccan newcomer Hamid Ahadad scored on debut as East Bengal FC subdued high-flying Namdhari FC 1-0 at the Salt Lake Stadium on Wednesday, becoming the first team to advance to the quarterfinals of this year's Durand Cup.
The all-important goal came in the 68th minute when Namdhari goalkeeper Niraj Kumar missed the flight of a corner kick taken by another red-and-gold debutant Miguel Ferreira and Hamid — who replaced Greek forward Dimitrios Diamantakos seven minutes earlier — headed it home and send home fans in the stands into rapture.
While Namdhari finished their Group A engagements with two wins and one loss, Oscar Bruzon's team — also on six points now — assured itself of topping the group by dint of head-to-head superiority and qualifying for the knockout stage with a game in hand.

Indian Air Force and South United FC — other two teams of the group — are already out of the knockout race with one point each.
Wednesday's scoreline, however, barely reflected true narrative of the contest. Not only did East Bengal miss a chance to win by a much bigger margin, it could have also easily been a more remarkable debut for Miguel, who rejoined the Spanish coach Bruzon following their successive stint with Bangladesh's Bashundhara Kings.

The Brazilian attacker was denied by the post not once, but thrice, in the first half itself.
That East Bengal enjoyed almost 70% of possessions and Namdhari finished the game without having a shot on goal told a whole different story.
Namdhari came into the match with back-to-back wins. But Bruzon started with four foreigners — Miguel, Saul Crespo, Diamantakos and Mohamad Rashid — in a move aimed at gaining early ascendancy.
They duly started on the front foot, dominating the proceedings with consummate ease but their search for early goals failed to bear fruit. Miguel represented the team's attacking aspirations, hitting the post with his left-footed scorcher from 22 yards in the 21st minute.
The Brazilian came calling again soon, but his two headers were denied by the woodwork again.
Dominating with possession but without luck, Bruzon signalled Hamid to get ready and the Moroccan came, saw and changed the complexion of the game.
Namdhari — who focused mainly on defending in numbers — tried to find a route back into the contest using their Brazilian striker Cledson Degol and Ghanaian defender Lamine Moro in set-pieces. But Bruzon introduced another debutant, Argentine defender Kevin Sibille, and Souvik Chakrabarti to ensure that their passage to the knockouts was not queered.

Malik Beasley eviction over $21K rent sparks Detroit controversy and deeper concerns (Image Source: Getty Images) NBA player Malik Beasley is making headlines again, and it has nothing to do with basketball. Back in 2024, he got taken to court not once, but twice, for skipping out on rent. This all went down in Detroit, where he was staying at the time. The issue has now become public, and fans are surprised. With the eviction confirmed and no word yet from Beasley, many are wondering what's going on behind the scenes. Malik Beasley reportedly sued twice for unpaid rent in Detroit According to TheDunkCentral on X, 27-year-old Malik Beasley was kicked out of his Detroit apartment after two lawsuits this year. The total rent he missed was around $21,500. The first time the landlord took him to court was way back in February. Then again in May. Same issue both times - no rent paid. — TheDunkCentral (@TheDunkCentral) Both cases were filed by the apartment owner. No details have been shared about which building it was, but it happened somewhere in downtown Detroit. Beasley hasn't said a word publicly about any of this. Last time we saw him on the court, he was with the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2023–24 season. After that, in July, he became a free agent. Since then, there hasn't been any word on his next move. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo There's been no update about him signing with a new team since. Tom Brady drops truth bomb on NFL team favoritism, shares why he never believed in star treatment
Tom Brady explains why treating superstars differently could ruin a team's culture (Getty Images) Professional athletes often receive VIP treatment, but Tom Brady is pushing back with a powerful message rooted in values, consistency, and leadership. The seven-time Super Bowl champion, now embracing life off the field as an investor and leader across various sports franchises, has shared some candid truths about why star treatment can be dangerous—not just in football, but across all team environments. Why Tom Brady believes culture beats talent every time Tom Brady isn't just investing in teams; he's investing in people. Since retiring, the former quarterback has shifted his focus toward shaping the inner framework of winning organizations. 'Over the course of the last three years, a lot of my time has been focused on talking to people,' he noted in his latest newsletter. And with that experience has come clarity on what truly makes a team successful. According to Brady, the key ingredient to any great team isn't the headline talent or the size of the payroll—it's culture. But not the kind of culture tossed around in boardrooms or marketing campaigns. To Brady, culture is 'the product of people and their values.' And it's also fragile. Brady believes inconsistency in rules and accountability—especially favoring star players—can rapidly erode any organization's foundation. 'As a leader or a boss, if you set the standard and make the rules, but you then don't live up to that standard and you break those rules because you think they don't apply to you... by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Treatment That Might Help You Against Knee Pain (Search Here) Kneepain | Search Search Now Undo everyone will see through it,' he explained. 'That's the fastest way for a culture to crumble.' The hidden cost of favoritism in sports teams Drawing from his own career, Brady reflected on the damaging effect of having 'different sets of rules' for different players. 'You can get away with that when you're winning,' he said. 'But it's fatal the moment you face any amount of sustained adversity.' When adversity hits, Brady warns, 'That's when the cracks in your culture reveal themselves. The locker room gets divided, the team starts to underachieve, and fingers start getting pointed. ' He calls this breakdown the 'disease of 'it's not my fault,'' a mindset he considers lethal to progress. 'Saying 'it's not my fault' is never the right way to deal with adversity,' he said. 'We have to say, 'it is our fault and we need to fix it.' Then we have to ask, 'how do we get to the solutions?'' For Brady, success doesn't come from special treatment but from shared responsibility. He believes that once values are embedded deeply, the culture becomes 'self-sustaining'—able to thrive long after its architects are gone. It's a philosophy that defined the Patriots' dynasty and continues to echo even after his departure.
