New Saujana–King Centre route added under Kuching SBST programme

KUCHING (April 30): The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Sarawak today has introduced the Saujana–King Centre route as the fourth addition under the Kuching Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme.
CVLB Sarawak chairman Michael Kong described the launch of the new route as a proud milestone and a reflection of the board's continued efforts to modernise and revitalise Kuching's public transportation system.
'We are working on another six more routes, which will be rolled out in the coming weeks to further expand our network and serve the community better,' he said during the launch according to a statement.
Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen was also present and livestreamed his experience taking the new route via Facebook.
Kong noted that the Saujana–King Centre route is a significant step towards creating a more connected, accessible, and efficient public transport system in Kuching.
The new route will serve several residential areas including Jalan Rubber, Jalan Poh Kwong Park, Jalan Stapok, RPR Batu Kawah, and Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho.
It also provides access to key destinations such as the Sarawak General Hospital, Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, Timberland Medical Centre, The Spring Shopping Mall, Boulevard Shopping Mall, SJK Chung Hua Batu 4½, and Sunny Hill.
'We are heartened to see an increasing number of people choosing to ride our buses across the existing three SBST Kuching routes.
'With this latest addition and improved accessibility into key residential and commercial areas, we encourage even more members of the public to consider the bus not just as a means to get to work, but also for attending official matters, school runs, or daily errands,' he said.
To further enhance service, Kong added that CVLB Sarawak has directed the operator to increase bus frequency to every 30 minutes during weekday peak hours (6am to 7am and 5pm to 6pm) to better serve working adults, students, and the general public.

"Our journey was like that of millions of other pilgrims." Nurul Izzah also expressed concern over the slanderous content. She said if something untrue is spread, it must be corrected. "In our differing views and political struggles, let us not turn acts of worship into material for slander or accusation. "Let us all focus on goodwill and prayers for one another and hope that Muslims will be granted the opportunity to perform the haj with ease and sincerity." Nurul Izzah also shared that while in Madinah, she and her husband attended a religious session with prominent Islamic scholars including Sheikh Dr Omar Suleiman, Dr Tahir Wyatt, and Ustaz Dr Mohd Amirul Hassan Ahmaf Tajuddin – an experience she described as deeply moving.

PETALING JAYA : Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim has dismissed calls by Umno Youth for the government to audit Petronas's financial results, urging the wing instead to concentrate on more pressing issues affecting the national oil company and the country's long-term energy strategy. Zaid said unless there is a clear and specific concern that justifies an audit, such a move is unnecessary and risks diverting attention from more critical matters. 'What you should be worried about is this: were you told about the deal struck between the Madani government and Sarawak on the Petronas-Petros dispute? 'Was the settlement fair to Petronas, and was it made in the (nation's best) interest?' he said in a post on X. Zaid also questioned the government's continued reliance on Petronas for national revenue, warning that it may be draining the company to the point where it can no longer compete effectively in the global energy market. 'You (Umno Youth) should be asking whether the government has a serious plan to diversify its revenue sources beyond Petronas.' He also raised concerns about whether Petronas still attracts leaders with the strategic foresight and competence of past technocrats such as Idris Jala and Hassan Marican, or even former prime minister Najib Razak, who once served the company as a junior executive. Umno Youth yesterday called on the government to provide a full audit and transparent report on Petronas's actual financial position to the public after its decision to cut 10% of its workforce due to falling crude prices. Its chief, Dr Akmal Saleh, said that as a wholly government-owned entity, any drastic decision affecting thousands of employees should not be made without proper checks and balances. Petronas said at least 5,000 staff (mostly contract workers) would be affected by the move.

GEDONG, June 8 — The state government is actively developing a new approach to reduce dependency on imported cattle and feed by introducing a sustainable circular agriculture model, said Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg. This initiative aims to address the high cost of beef in the state, which has been reported as among the most expensive in the country, reaching up to RM95 per kilogramme (kg) Abang Johari attributed the current high prices primarily to Sarawak's heavy dependence on imported cattle and feed, particularly from Australia. 'We currently import cattle, including those we rear in Australia under SEDC (Sarawak Economic Development Corporation). 'However, the export tax imposed by Australia is quite high and payments are made in Australian dollars, which drives up the cost,' he told reporters after attending the Ibadah Korban Ceremony at the Al-Kawthar Mosque here today. Abang Johari said the new strategy involves implementing feedlot farming systems instead of traditional open grazing, allowing cattle to be reared using locally-produced feed derived from agricultural waste mixed with napier grass. This, he noted, would enhance cattle health and quality, leading to better yields. 'I have been to Lubok Antu and seen the potential of using plantation waste to produce biomass. This biomass can be converted into animal feed, which means we no longer need to import feed. 'Healthy, well-fed cattle are heavier, which means more value, whereas if the cattle are thin, no one will want to buy them,' he said. He also said that trials under this model are already being conducted through various government agencies. He said by producing animal feed locally and intensifying livestock farming under controlled conditions, the government hopes to eventually increase local beef supply and bring prices down to a more affordable level. 'We have 38 palm oil mills across the state that produce palm kernel waste. This can be used as livestock feed and even to generate bio-gas and bio-feed, contributing to a full circular economy,' he added. Abang Johari emphasised that the initiative is still in its early phase, having started two years ago. He noted that upon becoming Chief Minister six years ago, this was one of the priorities he looked into, but groundwork only began about two years ago. He expressed hope that these efforts would not only make beef more affordable but also improve incomes for local farmers, especially as Sarawak remains highly dependent on Australian beef imports. 'The long-term goal is to make our agriculture sector self-sufficient, ensuring stable supply so that demand can be met and prices controlled,' he said. A national daily had earlier reported that the average price of beef in Sarawak stands at RM64 per kg, significantly higher than in other states where prices range between RM27 and RM48 per kg. In some cases, premium cuts such as fillet can fetch prices as high as RM95 per kg, making Sarawak's beef among the most expensive in the country. — The Borneo Post
