Galaxy Z Fold 7 ditched the S Pen, but Samsung's working on a new version for future foldables
In a statement made to ETNews (via Android Authority), the executive director of Samsung's MX business division, Kang Min-seok, stated that Samsung is 'researching and developing thinner and innovative technologies for the S Pen, so we will reconsider [foldable stylus compatibility] when the level of perfection increases and there is consumer demand.'
We don't know what form this new S Pen will take, but The Elec reported last year that Samsung and a second Korean company, HiDeep, were working on a new type of stylus that would work without a digitizer. As pointed out by Android Authority, this could mean the new pen will work similarly to an Apple Pencil by utilizing a combination of technologies such as onboard pressure sensitivity and tilt detection.
Samsung's Z Fold 7's thickness is no doubt impressive, with the phone measuring only 4.2mm when unfolded. However, making a phone that's 26% thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 comes with some major caveats, as there is some hardware that you just can't adapt to be thinner, including the stylus digitizer, due to durability requirements and the properties of the materials used.
While the Z Fold 7 might not get much from any future S Pen releases, there are some other major benefits to the device that will likely help it find a place as one of the best foldable phones. One of the standout features is the 8-inch OLED display, which is both bright and vibrant. There's also the new 200MP main camera and powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Also, while it comes with some costs, the phone's thinner and lighter design really needs to be seen to be believed.
For the time being, we don't know when Samsung will bring this new S Pen tech to the smartphone market, or which devices will offer support for it. As such, we'll have to wait and see what is unveiled in the coming months.

Nick Fernandez / Android Authority TL;DR ES-DE Frontend just launched version 3.3.0, with native Android game and app support. Previously workarounds required a separate file and a few extra steps. The update also added support for new emulators and four additional languages. When it comes to retro emulators on Android, organizing your files and emulators can be a nightmare. Even with a properly formatted microSD card stacked with your legally-ripped ROMs, it's still a pain to browse your games on most emulators. Emulation frontends solve this problem, and now one of the best, ES-DE Frontend, has finally incorporated native Android game and app support. Apart from touchscreen support, this was the main missing feature of the otherwise excellent Android port of Emulation Station. On previous versions it was technically possible to add Android apps and games to the menu, but it required a separate file download and some extra file configurations. Now, it will work out of the box. This feature is also available on Linux, Windows, and macOS to import desktop apps, Steam games, and more. Android apps and games are now automatically added to ES-DE Frontend. Version 3.3.0 adds support for new emulators, most notably the Sega Model 3 arcade platform. It also removes the MAME4droid 2024 emulator, replacing the entry with the new name, MAME4droid Current. You may need to change your default emulator in the Alternative Emulators section in settings as a result. Apart from that, ES-DE Frontend now supports four additional languages: Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, and Portuguese (Portugal). That brings the total supported languages to over 20. The desktop version of ES-DE is available for free, but the Android version requires a one-time purchase on Patreon, costing roughly $5. Google to Unveil New Pixel Hardware on Aug. 20 With AI in Focus

's Google will debut new Pixel-branded hardware at an event on Aug. 20 in New York, with the lineup expected to include several smartphones and a smartwatch, all powered by the company's artificial intelligence technology. iPhone Fold — Apple is reportedly partnering with Samsung for a 'crease-free' display
We've heard rumors that Apple has been working on a foldable iPhone for some time now — to the point where we're now pretty confident that something is coming from Apple on the foldable front. Still, details about the iPhone Fold (if that's what it's called) remain sparse. However, a new rumor from respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo provides a potential interesting detail about the iPhone Fold. Specifically, Apple could team up with Samsung Display (SDC) for its folding iPhone — a smart move for Apple, given that Samsung has just released the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to promising early reviews. Kuo says the company will "ensure stable mass production of the foldable iPhone in 2026." He also noted that this could mean Apple trusts SDC more than its screen designers to create a crease-free foldable smartphone, as the lack of a crease will be critical for making the iPhone stand out from already established foldable phones. Not everyone is as confident that Apple is making the right choice by partnering with SDC, as Apple is turning to a competitor for such a significant part of its portfolio. "It's a risky bet given the tepid success of foldable phones in the consumer smartphone market," Dan Ives, global head of tech research at Wedbush Securities, said. "Samsung is trying to gain share, and it puts some pressure on Apple to go down this path." It's worth noting that this isn't the first time we've heard Apple could work with Samsung for its foldable iPhone. A report emerged back in April, so this could be a case where there's smoke, there's fire. At the end of the day, though, it's about delivering a quality product to consumers, and if Apple feels working with Samsung Display is the best way to achieve that goal, I'm all for it.
