‘The dreamiest boss of all time': Olivia Rodrigo paid for crew's therapy while on tour

It seems the therapists Olivia Rodrigo found for her band really helped.
The 22-year-old 'Vampire' singer and her tour manager Marty Hom provided free and accessible therapy for the entire 'Guts' tour crew, rhythm guitarist Daisy Spencer revealed on 'The StageLeft Podcast.'
'I have never had anything like that,' Spencer, 31, told host Chris Simpson. 'And that reignited the importance of therapy to me because I had kind of fallen off for so long.'
Rodrigo and Spencer just wrapped the 102-date 'Guts' world tour July 1 and completed a successful headlining set at Glastonbury, where they were joined on stage by the Cure's Robert Smith. While on the podcast, Spencer described Rodrigo as 'the dreamiest boss of all time' and opened up about taking care of her mind and body on the road.
'Suddenly I had this free resource of incredible therapists and I utilized the crap out of that,' she said. 'I was going, you know, once a week, once every other week, whenever I could. And it was even during the off time — we also still had access to this resource.'
Rodrigo's dad, Chris Rodrigo, is a family therapist, and the singer has been very open about starting therapy at 16.
'That was a really big, life-changing moment,' she told CBS Sunday Morning in 2021. 'I've learned so much about myself.'
And she's not the only musician promoting therapy. Lewis Capaldi, who returned to the stage after a two-year break from performing to focus on his all-around health, announced Monday that he's partnering with BetterHelp to provide 734,000 hours of free online therapy. Ariana Grande has also partnered with the virtual therapy platform several times in the past.
Though the 'Guts' tour has concluded, Rodrigo still has several festival engagements lined up for the summer, including a headlining set Aug. 1 at Lollapalooza.

In addition to the tour, Katseye will also be making a few festival appearances in August, including Lollapalooza. The tour was announced on July 8, and ticket presales started the very next day. Lewis Capaldi Showcases Uplifting Single ‘Survive' on ‘Fallon'

Lewis Capaldi appeared on The Tonight Show to perform his new single, 'Survive,' and to discuss his return to music with host Jimmy Fallon. The musician shared an emotional rendition of 'Survive,' which he initially debuted at Glastonbury in June. He was joined by a live band for the triumphant acoustic number, Capaldi's first new song in nearly two years. The song addresses Capaldi's mental health struggles in the wake of his battle with Tourette's syndrome. Lewis Capaldi Is Ready to Release New EP After 'Crying Quite a Lot' in Therapy for Two Years Capaldi sat down with Fallon to discuss the single and his surprise set on Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage. The singer had last performed at the festival in 2023, where he was seen battling Tourette's throughout his set. Shortly after, he announced all upcoming tour dates would be cancelled to focus on his mental and physical well-being. He acknowledged that returning to Glastonbury was 'terrifying.' 'In the lead-up to it I was like, 'This is horrific. I made a terrible decision,'' Capaldi told Fallon. 'And then I went out and then we did it and it was really beautiful and lovely, and it went exactly as how I hoped. And it was probably the best day of my life.' He added, joking, 'Until, I assume, when I have a child. I'll be like, 'Well, maybe Glastonbury was still better.'' Capaldi also discussed his partnership with online therapy service BetterHelp and how therapy has helped him in his own mental health journey. He recalled having a 'mental breakdown' on stage in 2023 and explained what it has taken to get him to a more stable place. Now, Capaldi is ready to perform again regularly. 'We've just announced a U.K. arena tour and an Australia arena tour,' he noted. 'You can try and get tickets, but they're sold out baby!' Earlier this month, Capaldi confirmed he is in the process of readying a new EP. 'I don't know about an album, but I'm doing an EP at some point this year, and then album maybe will follow next year,' the musician said on Good Morning America. He said his next single will arrive 'later this summer, and then another song after that, and another song after that, until the day I die.' We Almost Lived in a Timeline Where ‘Morbius' Was Made by ‘Midsommar' Director Ari Aster

Marvel's perpetually delayed Blade movie, which took on new life as the costuming for Ryan Coogler's Sinners, may never see the light of day. But it's worth remembering we did already get a vampire movie centered on a Marvel character: a certain Dr. Michael Morbius. Midsommar and Hereditary director Ari Aster has now confirmed that at one point, he was asked to direct the Spider-Man spin-off movie, and the mind reels at what might have been. In a recent interview on Semafor's Mixed Signals podcast, Aster, after initially struggling to pronounce the film's name, revealed that Morbius was indeed the project he was invited by Marvel to direct. (Technically, Morbius wasn't part of the MCU; it was part of Sony's web of films adjacent to Spider-Man that didn't actually feature the character.) On paper, hiring Aster, the director behind A24's aforementioned modern horror classics, sounds promising, given the inherent horror in any vampire film. When Semafor's Max Welltani lamented the missed opportunity, noting how Morbius—as directed by Daniel Espinosa—didn't perform well at the box office (it did OK), Aster responded to the what-if in kind, saying, 'We could've added it to my list.' "I feel like I shouldn't say. Should I?"@maxwelltani asks director Ari Aster about a rumor that he was asked to do a Marvel movie on Mixed Signals from Semafor Media: — Semafor (@semafor) July 18, 2025Famously, the studio took the bait that Morbius' internet infamy meant fans must have a genuine craving for morbin' despite the film's sucky opening weekend box office returns. Regardless, the Jared Leto method-acted film showing a pulse for organic online fanfare resulted in Morbius returning to theaters thanks to all the memes. But while the combination of going viral and an unexpectedly sexy evil Matt Smith might not have been enough for cinematic greatness, well—congratulations, Marvel, you got tricked into releasing a vampire movie. While Sony would go on to blame the children (and critics) for being wrong about its Spider-Man franchise building sans Peter Parker, Espinosa took Morbius' bad reviews in stride in a 2022 interview. 'Look, I have a lot of self-hatred so I have a lot of criticism of my own work,' Espinosa told Insider. 'I'm always trying to focus on being better. But I am also proud of what I do. There are parts in all of my movies that I'm really proud of.' In a separate interview with Uproxx, Espinosa was asked how much of Morbius was actually his. 'I think that I work at my best if I get a lot of decision power,' Espinosa said. 'But, in these movies, they're big movies that have a lot of people's interest. It's different processes every time.' While Espinosa didn't directly respond or implicate any studio executives, he did provide insight into what retrospectively seems to be a narrow escape for Aster regarding his association with Morbius. Bullet, or in this case, wooden stake, dodged. Want more io9 news?
