Underdog Glasgow Airport has secured two significant new European routes amid rivals Edinburgh's increasing dominance of Scotland's air links. Flights to Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa from the west coast airport are to be launched on October 27, Wizz Air announced on Thursday. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The new Rome and Milan routes will start on October 27 | Wizz Air News of the three-times-a-week service to both Italian destinations comes two days after Glasgow won a weekly route to the Greek island of Kos with Jet2 next summer. It already has a Wizz Air route to Budapest. Glasgow has hemorrhaged routes to Edinburgh over the past few years, including when Ryanair axed most of its Glasgow routes in 2018 and has since become Edinburgh's biggest airline with around 70 routes. The west coast airport is now without New York flights while Edinburgh has up to four a day, and also lost its long-established Virgin Atlantic route to Orlando to its rival. Edinburgh benefits from a more central location, west of the capital, than Glasgow Airport, which is also west of its city, and seen as a more attractive destination for tourists, especially Americans. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad It also has benefited from improved transport links such as direct buses from Glasgow city centre and a tram link that connects with ScotRail trains at Edinburgh Park. Both Easyjet and Ryanair fly to Milan from Edinburgh, which also has Rome flights with Ryanair and Jet2. Glasgow's new routes come four months after Kam Jandu, chief executive of parent firm AGS Airports, pledged to 'strengthen connectivity', naming Milan among European routes 'we need to get back'. He also mentioned Copenhagen and Madrid. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Mr Jandu emphasised that making the airport efficient was key to attracting new routes, which is part of a £350 million improvements package he announced for AGS's Glasgow, Aberdeen and Southampton airports. He said: 'We are in consultation with our existing airlines and potential new ones to make sure we are meeting turn-around space requirements that fit their aspirations because the low-cost airlines want to turn their aircraft relatively quickly.'

Thresher shark filmed leaping from water off Scottish coast
A thresher Shark has been caught on camera leaping from the water off the west coast of Scotland. The footage was captured by those on board the Greenock-based Yacht Candubhlah, which was sailing in the Inner Hebrides south of Gigha on August 10. The predator is seen propelling itself out of the water into the air before breaching the water for a second time. Threshers jump out of the water for a number of reasons, including stunning prey and parasite removal. It is also thought that breaching may be used as a form of communication. The sharks tend to travel to UK waters during the summer months, however, it is uncommon to see them near Scotland. The 9 European cities named among the best in the world for Gen Z to live in
Are you under 30 and with a serious case of European wanderlust? Well, Time Out surveyed 18,500 locals from across the world and consulted a panel of experts to find out which cities are the best of the best based on food, culture, green spaces, walkability and nightlife. But not every generation thinks the same, so we took those answers and sorted them by age to find out which cities are the most popular cities among their Gen-Z inhabitants. Bangkok claimed the worldwide crown, but our top 20 was dominated by hubs from all over Europe, with Copenhagen claiming first place. One of the happiest places on earth, according to the 2025 Happy City Index, Copenhagen received consistent high praise for safety, stability, education, public transport, health care and all around quality of life. No wonder 64 percent of Gen-Zers living there approve. There's loads to do, after all. It's Denmark's cultural hub with a plethora of museums, markets, castles and palaces housed in Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical architecture. There are also large parks like the King's Garden or Dyrehaven, a forest that's home to thousands of deer; a delicious food scene of seasonal Nordic cuisine (smørrebrød, anyone?), and a great bar scene, too. Second place is awarded to the Spain's second city, Barcelona. Who can resist the trippy Gaudi structures, hot, succulent tapas and overflowing sangria? Certainly not the 77 percent of Gen-Zers who rated the city in our survey. Barcelona is also one of the most diverse and inclusive places to live – the perfect foundation for twenty-somethings. Edinburgh, the Scottish capital, rings in third place. The historic capital won 95 percent of Gen-Z residents over with its fantastic green spaces and natural landscapes, as well as its walkability, which received an 89 percent approval rate. No surprise really, given it featured in out recent top-10 roundups of the best cities for walkability and green space, eh? Fancy a look at the rest of our list? Scroll on. Here are the top European cities for Gen-Z to live, according to Time Out Copenhagen, Denmark Barcelona, Spain Edinburgh, Scotland London, UK Paris, France Berlin, Germany Seville, Spain Prague, Czech Republic Lisbon, Portugal
