India witnessing unprecedented transformation in infra, logistics sectors: Rajnath Singh
In a virtual address at the third convocation of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya held in Vadodara, Singh said, 'the stronger the logistics services, the stronger our borders remain. When we deliver defence products manufactured in one part of the country or food supplies for soldiers to the border on time, the morale of the border guards becomes strong.'
Describing the logistics sector as a game changer for 21st century India, the Defence Minister said that it has immense opportunities for the youth who will play a key role in building a developed India. He urged the youth to take responsibility in building a developed India.
Highlighting the government's initiatives, Rajnath Singh said that initiatives like creating multimodal transport hubs and implementing mission mode schemes have significantly reduced logistics costs and encouraged data-based decision-making.
Addressing the event, Union Minister for Railways and Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Ashwini Vaishnaw, highlighted the transformational changes that have taken place in Indian Railways in the last 11 years. He informed that in the last one year alone, the rail network has expanded by 5,300 km, with tunnel construction reaching a total of 368 km.
He stressed on making India a top economy by building human resources focused on every sector through educational institutions like Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya. Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya has signed MoUs with about 40 different industrial and educational institutions. The minister also suggested preparing research papers focusing on marine engineering in the future and entering into MoUs with marine industries.
Vaishnaw described Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya as the "engine of development" and urged the students to support the vision of a developed India by 2047
A total of 194 students received degrees in various subjects at the convocation. One student from each course was awarded the Academic Excellence Award, while Outstanding Project and Best Student Awards were also given.
Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya Vice Chancellor Professor Manoj Choudhary gave a welcome address and gave information about the institution's performance in the last three years. The programme was attended by Vadodara MP Dr. Hemang Joshi, Rajmata Shubhangini Raje Gaekwad, senior officers of the Indian Army and Railways, students and their parents.

Island residents in Ernakulam left waiting for CRZ nod
Kochi: Island panchayats in Ernakulam district cannot proceed with new construction activities as the state govt has failed to submit integrated island management plans (IIMPs) to the Centre, the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change has informed the Lok Sabha. As per the CRZ Notification, 2019, implementation of an IIMP is mandatory for construction to proceed on island regions. Singh clarified that IIMPs are prepared according to the CRZ notification, 2019 and the Centre approves them only after detailed proposals are submitted by the state. However, no IIMP project proposals have been submitted by the Kerala govt, he stated. The minister was answering questions from the MP regarding the the inclusion of 13 previously excluded panchayats in Ernakulam under the CRZ-II category. These include Alangad, Chendamangalam, Chittattukara, Ezhikkara, Kadungallur, Karumaloor, Kottuvally, Kunnukara, Puthanvelikara, Udayamperoor, Vadakkekkara, Kuzhippilly, Pallippuram and Edavanakadu. Hibi Eden noted that the wait has been long for residents, particularly the island fisherfolk and coastal communities, to benefit from the construction relaxations under the 2019 CRZ Notification. The Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP), which reflects the new CRZ norms, was approved in Oct 2024, after much delay. "Even with the approval of this Coastal Zone Management Plan in Oct 2024, the key benefit of CRZ 2019 for coastal communities, including island fishermen, remains unrealized," stated the MP. "The concession, allowing construction beyond 20 meters from the water body boundary, hasn't been granted to eligible applicants because the IIMP, which was supposed to be released alongside the coastal zone management plan, is still not ready." He urged the state government to act swiftly to prepare and submit the IIMPs so that eligible coastal communities can finally access their long-promised development rights.

New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah slammed the Opposition in Lok Sabha for demanding proof of Operation Sindoor and criticised former home minister P Chidambaram for questioning Pakistani links of terrorists involved in Pahalgam attack. In his 75-minute intervention in the discussion on Operation Sindoor, Shah blamed Nehru-Gandhi family for erroneous decisions in the past and linked them to the current problem of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. "If PoK exists today with a separate identity, it is because of Nehru's decision to stop the war in 1948. It was a unilateral ceasefire, which was opposed by Sardar Patel," he said. "In 1948, Indian armed forces were in decisive position to take back PoK but then PM Nehru declared unilateral ceasefire." Tearing into opposition, Shah said, "I was pained yesterday when former Home Minister P Chidambaram raised the question that what was the proof that the Pahalgam terrorists came from Pakistan? What is Chidambaram trying to say? Whom does he want to save? What will you gain by saving Pakistan?" The Home Minister also slammed the then Manmohan Singh government for its response on terror attacks. "Following Operation Sindoor, our DGMO informed the Pak DGMO that India has attacked terror infrastructure on their land as per our right of self-defence. It cannot be like how it happened during Manmohan Singh's government, that terrorists come and kill us and we sit quietly...," Shah said. Following the Opposition's question over efficacy of the Modi government's decision to revoke Article 370, Shah said: "The number of terror attacks have gone down from 7,214 during UPA's regime 2004-14 to 2,150 in our 10 years from 2015-25," said Shah adding, "21 organisations with terror links that had been banned by the current government. New Delhi: Union defence minister Rajnath Singh while initiating the debate on Operation Sindoor in the Rajya Sabha raised questions on the recent decisions of the United Nations in the global fight against terror. The defence minister said that in the fight against terrorism , a major responsibility lies with an International organisation like the UN. "But unfortunately, in recent years, question marks have been raised on many decisions of the UN. The latest example is the UN Security Council has appointed Pakistan as the vice-chair of the counter-terrorism panel," Singh said on the floor of the Rajya Sabha. "The surprising thing is that this counter-terrorism panel was formed after the 9/11 attacks. It is also no secret that Pakistan gave shelter to the mastermind of that attack. Singh in his speech on Tuesday, praised the Indian Army and security forces for the success of Operation Sindoor, saying the operation was carefully planned to target terrorists while ensuring no harm to ordinary citizens in Pakistan. He also congratulated the forces for killing three terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir , adding that they were from the same group that had brutally killed 26 innocent and blameless people in Pahalgam on April 22. "In 2016 terror attacks took place in Uri and Pathankot. In 2019 Pulwama happened and now in 2025 the terror attack in Pahalgam took place. This proves that there has been a regular intelligence failure, and the home minister should fix responsibility for the failures," Kharge said in the upper house. Kharge said that on July 14, 2025, the LG of Jammu and Kashmir said that the Pahalgam attack undoubtedly was a security failure and he took full responsibility for it. "The responsibility should be taken by HM and not LG," he said. Kharge also said whether the government had previous information of a possible attack citing that PM Modi's trip to Jammu and Kashmir was cancelled three days before the attack.
