Sabah PH meeting concentrates on three key matters
KOTA BELUD (July 4): The Pakatan Harapan (PH) meeting held in Kota Kinabalu yesterday focused on three main issues in preparation for the Sabah state election which is expected to be held soon.
PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said in the meeting, all PH component parties agreed to have a timeline in resolving the distribution of their respective seats.
'The meeting also agreed that we will focus on the formation of a strong and stable election machinery. It must happen now, for (waiting until) the State Legislative Assembly is dissolved, will be too late,' he said.
He told reporters after officiating the launch of MADANI Adopted Village Programme of the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Pangkalan Abai here today.
Saifuddin Nasution, who chaired the meeting, said the discussions also focused on the details of the PH manifesto and he was satisfied with the progress of the negotiations achieved.
He also gave an assurance that he would be coming down to Sabah to ensure that all decisions in the PH meeting were implemented.
Also present at the meeting were Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) communications director Khalid Abdul Samad, PH Sabah chairman Datuk Ewon Benedick who is also the president of the United Kinabalu Progressive Organisation (UPKO), Sabah PKR State Leadership Council chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe and Sabah Amanah chairman Datuk Lahirul Latigu.
The Sabah State Assembly will be automatically dissolved on Nov 11, to pave the way for the 17th Sabah state election. – Bernama

The Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) treasurer said GRS, the state's ruling coalition, might want to ensure strong ties with the federal government. 'This aligns with the need to ensure political stability and continued development for Sabah,' he said in a Facebook post. While BN and PH are partners in the unity government at the federal level, BN sits in the opposition in the Sabah legislative assembly. GRS chairman Hajiji Noor said yesterday that his coalition would form an alliance with PH for the upcoming state polls. PH had previously agreed to an electoral pact for the state election with BN. Sabah BN chief Bung Moktar Radin said the coalition would not work with GRS in the state election, and would only consider cooperation after the outcome of the election. Salleh nevertheless said that GRS's decision to work with PH must be respected. 'Undoubtedly, they have their own reasons, and the people will be the judge,' he said. He added that BN had decided to work with PH as the two coalitions were the foundation of the unity government at the federal level. He said cooperation between the two was a 'logical and responsible continuation of that partnership'. 'How PH manages its cooperation with both BN and GRS is not our concern. What matters to us in BN is sincerity in partnership, and our focus remains on strengthening our party on the ground,' he said.

The former Sabah chief minister said in a Facebook post that GRS had made a conscious decision not to contest the election alone but instead align with national political forces, rejecting what he described as the 'Sarawak formula' of distancing from federal parties. 'GRS has ultimately rejected going solo and opted to align with national parties. Undoubtedly, they have their own reasons, and the people will be the judge,' he said. Salleh noted that GRS' decision to cooperate with PH likely reflects a strategic desire to maintain close ties with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration. 'Let us give them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they want to work with the Prime Minister's party, which is PH, and to ensure strong ties with the federal government. KOTA KINABALU: PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh has confirmed the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) alliance in Sabah for the upcoming state election. "PKR always welcomes cooperation with any party in facing the Sabah state election," she said. "PKR believes it is a win-win combination. It is a win for the people of Sabah, and also a win for all component parties in the cooperation," she told the New Straits Times. Yesterday, the Chief Minister and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor reiterated his commitment to work with Sabah PH for the upcoming state election. He attributed this willingness to work with PH to their leaders' support during the attempt to topple the GRS-led state government in 2023. However, Hajiji said that the people of Sabah should vote wisely to ensure GRS, a local-based coalition, dominates the political scene in the state. Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat chief Datuk Mustapha Sakmud had said that despite PH eyeing over 20 seats, both coalitions would still have to sit down to negotiate on which seats to contest.
