Who Plays Aunt Gladys in ‘Weapons'? Where You've Seen Amy Madigan Before
'Weapons' is getting plenty of attention after hitting theaters Friday, and the movie is on track to earn $40 million this weekend. Part of the film's success can be chalked up to the secrecy that surrounded its plot ahead of time — and perhaps no one character is more mysterious than Amy Madigan's Aunt Gladys.
Madigan's role in the movie has been kept a secret on purpose, and the bulk of this article contains spoilers about the film's plot. In other words: stop reading now if you don't want to know anything about what Madigan gets up to as Aunt Gladys.

Is Amy Madigan in 'Weapons'?
Though there wasn't a lot of information available about Madigan's role in 'Weapons' before the movie's release (she even attended the premiere but skipped the red carpet) she definitely plays a key part in the film's story.
Again: anything you read past this point will spoil key parts of the movie for you, so proceed with caution.
Who does Amy Madigan play in 'Weapons'?
At the beginning of the film, the audience finds out 17 of 18 children in Ms. Gandy's (Garner) Maybrook Elementary School class woke up in the middle of the night and left their homes — and they haven't come back. Alex Lilly (Cary Christopher) is the only child who remains behind, and Madigan stars as his great-aunt.
Her character, Aunt Gladys, came to town ostensibly to take care of Alex and his family after his mother gets sick. But pretty soon, it becomes clear she's completely in charge — and that she has the ability to control everyone around her as long as she has access to a personal item of theirs.
Aunt Gladys begins by siphoning energy from Alex's parents, but once that runs out, his classmates become a viable option. She enlists her great-nephew's help and then uses magic to bring the children to their home.
What else has Amy Madigan been in?
If Madigan seems familiar, that's probably because her resume is vast and varied — but she's never quite had a breakaway hit. She played Annie Kinsella in 'Field of Dreams,' played Iris Crowe in 24 episodes of 'Carnivale,' and appeared as Dr. Katharine Wyatt in nine episodes of 'Grey's Anatomy.
Her additional credits also include episodes of 'ER' and 'How to Get Away with Murder.'
'Weapons' is now playing in theaters.

AOL Is Ending Dial-Up Internet Service
If you are old enough to remember the signature pinging, boinging, and hissing sounds that came with connecting to the Internet in the early days, hold onto those memories — AOL just announced that its dial-up is about to hang up forever. The company released a statement on Friday, which read: "AOL routinely evaluates its products and services and has decided to discontinue Dial-up Internet." The service and all associated software will stop working on September 30, 2025, the company added. Related: Billionaire Investor Frank McCourt Jr. Wants to Transform the Entire Internet. Here's How. Wait, AOL dial-up service has been available all this time? That's a valid question, and the answer is shockingly yes. The New York Times, citing U.S. Census Bureau data, reports that in 2023, 163,000 United States households relied on dial-up service to access the internet. That represents just over 1 percent of all internet subscribers in the country. The last time AOL released dial-up user numbers was in 2015, when the company reported two million users that represented $40 million a month in revenue. The company did not offer current user numbers with its closing announcement. AOL's dial-up service unlocked internet access for millions of users in the 1990s, and its signature "You've Got Mail" sign-on announcement was so iconic that it spurred a rom-com of the same name starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan as a couple who fall in love over instant messaging. Dial-up internet speeds average about 56 kilobytes a second, reports The Times. Typical broadband connections are several thousand times faster. Think about that the next time you're frustrated that a web page took more than half a second to load. End of an Era… Dial Up Internet will be discontinued by AOL on September 30, 2025 — ? Emma Thompson says Donald Trump once asked her out on a pivotal day
People in entertainment Donald TrumpFacebookTweetLink Follow Emma Thompson has reshared a story about a phone call she received years ago from President Donald Trump. While attending the Locarno film festival in Switzerland to receive the Leopard Club award, Thompson reportedly talked about the day around 1997, when she says a then-private citizen Trump asked her out on a date. Thompson said she was filming the movie 'Primary Colors' at the time, a film based on the novel by Joe Klein which fictionalized the rise of President Bill Clinton. The phone in her on-set trailer rang, she recalled, and 'it was Donald Trump.' 'I thought it was a joke and asked: 'How can I help you?' Maybe he needed directions from someone,' Thompson told the crowd. 'Then he said: 'I'd love you to come and stay at one of my beautiful places. Maybe we could have dinner,'' Thompson continued. 'I said: 'Well, that's very sweet. Thank you so much. I'll get back to you.'' The 'Love Actually' star said she later realized what day it was. 'I realized my divorce decree had come through that day,' she said. 'I bet he's got people looking for a nice divorcee to take out on his arm.' Thompson had gone through a long divorce from her first husband, actor Kenneth Branagh. The story is one Thompson had shared before. During an appearance on 'The Graham Norton Show' in 2017, she talked to the host about the invite she said she received from Trump years prior. 'I could have changed the course of history,' Thompson joked.

Paramount acquires UFC rights in 7-year deal with TKO Group
Paramount will become the new home to all Ultimate Fighting Championship events in the U.S. under a seven-year agreement with TKO Group announced on Monday. Under the deal, Paramount will exclusively distribute the UFC's full slate of its 13 marquee numbered events and 30 "Fight Nights" on its streaming platform Paramount+ — with select numbered events also set to simulcast on CBS — starting in 2026. It's a shift away from the UFC's existing pay-per-view model, which Paramount and TKO say will allow the mixed martial arts programming reach more consumers nationwide. "Paramount's advantage lies in the expansive reach of our linear and streaming platforms," David Ellison, chairman and CEO of Paramount, said in a statement. "Live sports continue to be a cornerstone of our broader strategy — driving engagement, subscriber growth, and long-term loyalty, and the addition of UFC's year-round must-watch events to our platforms is a major win." Mark Shapiro, president and COO of TKO, added that the deal will mean "deeper engagement for UFC's passionate fan base" and that its athletes "will love this new stage." The seven-year deal has an average annual value of $1.1 billion, the companies said Monday. Paramount, now owned by Skydance, also said it intends to explore UFC rights outside the U.S. "as they become available in the future." Shares of TKO — which, in addition to the UFC, also houses the WWE — rose 1.4% in premarket trading Monday. CBS News and Paramount+ are owned by Paramount Global.
