5 buildings razed in Versova, 35 more to go
The demolished structures include: Kutur House, Sai Shraddha Nivas, Naga House, Zhemane House and Ganesh Sagar. According to civic officials, the buildings posed a potential threat to life as they were built on marshy terrain.
Further investigations have revealed 35 more unauthorised structures in the same CRZ area. The BMC said these buildings too will also be demolished as part of its ongoing enforcement drive.
CRZ demolitions in Madh
In a separate development, the BMC on Friday demolished nine unauthorised constructions in Madh as part of the drive to raze structures built with the help of fudged Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) maps.
Earlier, a bungalow whose construction was based on these maps was razed.
Civic official said the P-North ward office is undertaking this drive and a total of 101 illegal constructions relating to this case will be demolished by the end of May.
They said that 130 illegal constructions have been built in the Madh area over the last year based on fake maps. As part of the drive to raze these structures, a bungalow named 'Preet', built on a 1,500-sq ft plot in Erangal village, was demolished on May 5.
On Friday, nine more constructions in Erangal and Walnai areas were demolished. The structures ranged in size from 200 sq ft to 2,500 sq ft.

Two dead, over 300 injured in Dahi Handi festivities in Mumbai
Two people died and more than 300 sustained injuries during the Dahi Handi festival in Mumbai and Thane, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a statement. Of the 318 persons injured in Mumbai, only 24 were under treatment, including a nine-year-old boy. The remaining 294 people were discharged after treatment on Saturday (August 16, 2025). The Dahi Handi festival, celebrated a day after Krishna Janmashtami, involves a group of men and women forming a human pyramid to break an earthen pot with curd in it, tied to a hanging rope. Officials of the BMC said that 135 persons were injured in Mumbai, of whom 119 have been discharged and 16 are still under treatment, including one person in a critical condition. In the eastern suburbs, of the 72 injured, two are still under treatment, while 70 have been discharged. In the Western suburbs, 111 were injured, with 105 discharged, and six under treatment, including one person in critical condition.

Mumbai: One dead, 95 injured in dahi handi celebrations
A 32-year-old man died and 95 others were injured during dahi handi celebrations in Mumbai on Saturday, The Hindu reported. Dahi handi events, part of the Hindu festival of Janmashtami that marks the birth of deity Krishna, involve groups forming human pyramids to break earthen pots filled with curd suspended from a height. In Mankhurd, Jagmohan Shivkiran Chaudhari fell while tying a dahi handi rope to a window grille on the first floor of his house. He was taken to Shatabdi Hospital in Govandi, where doctors declared him dead in the afternoon. Of the 95 persons injured in the celebrations in Mumbai, 19 are still admitted to hospital, including two in critical condition, The Hindu quoted the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's data as saying. Seventy-six others have been discharged. In Thane, 22 persons – including minors – were injured during the festivities, the Hindustan Times quoted Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation as saying. Some of the injured were children aged between five and ten, the official said. Tadvi added that the organisers had been issued clear instructions against allowing children below 14 to participate. 'Despite repeated instructions, children below 14 years were found forming pyramids,' India Today quoted Tadvi as saying. Separately, Rohan Mohan Valvi (14), a member of the Gaondevi Govinda Pathak in Andheri, collapsed while seated in a tempo van during the festivities. Valvi, who had reportedly recently recovered from jaundice, was taken to two hospitals and declared dead at Rajawadi Hospital, Ghatkopar, at night.
