Yahoo7 hours ago
Peterborough's Strongest is returning to Cathedral Square on Saturday, with hundreds of people expected to attend.
Organised by Peterborough Positive, in partnership with Royals Gym, the free event will run from 10am to 5pm with competitors of all levels battling it out throughout the day.
Challenges include the return of the 'Truck Pull' along with an introduction of the Viking Log Walk, a test of grit, balance and endurance, organisers said.
Pep Cipriano, chief operating officer at Peterborough Positive, said the event not only entertains people but also helps "drive footfall into the city centre" supporting local businesses while creating memorable experiences.
'Real sense of occasion'
"It's brilliant to see athletes and visitors engaging with this unique and inspiring competition, right in the heart of the city," he said.
The event will be overseen by World Strongman Games athlete Craig Candler as head referee, and Josh Stanley, who placed third at the UK Natural Strongman event, as second referee. PJ Carter, current International Powerlifting League (IPL) Bench Press world number two, will again host it.
Sam Fowler, founder of Royals Gym, said: "We're thrilled to be back in Cathedral Square. It's a fantastic location that creates an electric atmosphere and gives the competition a real sense of occasion.
"Last year's event drew in an amazing crowd, and we're excited to build on that momentum with even more athletes competing this time around."

17-goal Arsenal youth forward signs new deal

Arsenal youth forward Andre Harriman-Annous has signed his first professional contract with the club, after joining Mikel Arteta's squad on their pre-season tour. Photo via Though Friday's Arsenal news was understandably dominated by Ethan Nwaneri's new deal, the Gunners also confirmed a fresh contract for young striker Andre Harriman-Annous. Harriman-Annous was into the final year of his scholarship deal, but Arsenal have now tied him down to professional terms. 'It's a really good day to sign my first professional contract,' Harriman-Annous said. 'I'm a fan of Arsenal so it's a dream come true really. 'I want to keep playing in the under-21s, hopefully with England too. I want to go to the under-19 Euros at the end of the season and hopefully, if I keep pushing, I'll be on the bench and make my debut with the first team. Hopefully, I can make that possible.' Photo via As first professional deals are capped at three years, it's likely but unconfirmed that Harriman-Annous' new contract runs until 2028. Harriman-Annous has been involved in Arsenal's pre-season squad throughout the last few weeks, even making an appearance on the pitch against Newcastle United. The striker was perhaps unfortunate that just as Kai Havertz started to need a break, Viktor Gyokeres arrived to take his place. But at just 17 years old, there will be further opportunities for the youngster in the future. Photo via Le African Gooner on Twitter The versatile forward can also play on the wings, and he hasn't had much trouble adapting to various teams and competitions. In 2024/25, Harriman-Annous played in the Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy with the u21s, the UEFA Youth League with the u19s, and the u18 Premier League, the FA Youth Cup, and the u18 Premier League Cup with the u18s. He scored in every one of those competitions, racking up 17 goals. For the time being, as the player mentions, the aim is simply to step up into the u21 team on a more regular basis. Having played twice as many minutes in the u18 Premier League compared to the Premier League 2 last season, he's very much still making that transition. A first-team promotion can wait.
