‘Don't hesitate to fly the flag': Aaron on upside-down Jalur Gemilang incident
'I would like to stress that the public should not feel afraid or hesitant to display the national flag because of these incidents.
Instead, we should take this opportunity to learn and understand the proper procedures for flying the Jalur Gemilang,' he said in a statement on X today.
This follows a series of incidents where the Jalur Gemilang has been displayed incorrectly.
Aaron described the act of hanging the flag upside down as inappropriate and a violation of the proper flag display protocol under the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963.
While it could have been intentional, he said it might also have been due to negligence or lack of awareness.
'In the spirit of unity, we should not be quick to make assumptions without waiting for the full results of the investigation.
'I call on all parties to calm the situation by refraining from making provocative statements or taking actions that could further worsen matters,' he said.
Aaron said the matter should be left to the authorities to investigate and determine appropriate action, adding that it serves as a reminder to appreciate and respect national symbols.
He also encouraged Malaysians to support the 'One House, One Jalur Gemilang' campaign in conjunction with the National Month celebrations.
He said he had instructed the Department of National Unity and Integration to carry out awareness campaigns through Rukun Tetangga areas, Rukun Negara Clubs, and the Rukun Negara Secretariat to ensure the public understands the correct way to display the national flag.

PETALING JAYA: Let the authorities investigate errors involving the Jalur Gemilang before turning them into an issue, says former minister Rafizi Ramli. Rafizi said there are many possible reasons a flag might be flown upside down, including an honest mistake. On Aug 9, a 59-year-old hardware shop owner in Kepala Batas, Penang, was investigated after the national flag was found hanging upside down outside his shop. The shop owner said it was an unintentional mistake made while measuring a flagpole, which he corrected shortly after. Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Salleh had announced plans to stage a protest at the shop, but the gathering did not take place after police were stationed in the area and advised against it. Rafizi, who was also a former PKR deputy president, reminded young politicians to know their limits. 'Our value lies in the knowledge and vision we bring to improve society. While you're young, maybe you can make a name for yourself with socks, flags, shoes, slippers and hats. 'But when you're older, people will laugh at you when they see you as the 'sock, flag, shoe, slipper and hat' politician. So, know your limits,' he said. He also reminded Umno Youth that there was once a time when they proudly raised a keris at their assemblies. 'It was that keris that people remember, and it became one of the reasons Umno was rejected by part of the people,' he said.

Move on from upside-down flag incident, says Chow
GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said all parties should remain calm and move on from the recent incident of the upside-down Jalur Gemilang in Kepala Batas. Commenting on a planned gathering this afternoon, Chow said police had investigated the matter. "The investigation papers have been submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers. The process has been sufficient and complete. "It is time to move on," he said after the inauguration of international chipmaker AMD's new state-of-the-art office and engineering lab in Bayan Lepas here. Chow said Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh was welcome to visit Penang to view the big flag that was put up by the alleged perpetrator of the first incident as an apology. He said Dr Akmal should also enjoy the nasi kandar that Umno youth chief said he planned to have. "We also have durians here. He is welcome to come and enjoy Penang's food. "Just don't cause trouble," he added. The incident sparked public outrage after a video clip of the national flag being flown upside-down outside a hardware store in Kepala Batas went viral. Police have concluded their investigation, and the shop owner claimed it was a mistake during the process of adjusting the flagpole height. The shop owner had said that he was willing to accept whatever consequences. Earlier today, Bukit Aman urged organisers to cancel today's gathering over the incident. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the police took seriously any issue that could compromise public safety and well-being. To date, 38 police reports have been lodged nationwide, 17 in Penang and 21 in other states. The investigation includes offences under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for disseminating offensive content.

Let's move on from ‘Jalur Gemilang' issue, says Penang CM
GEORGE TOWN, Aug 14 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said it is time to move on from the upside-down Jalur Gemilang issue. He said reports were made, investigations were conducted and various parties have already voiced their criticisms. 'The investigation was completed and investigation papers submitted to the AGC, so I believe this is enough so let's move forward,' he said to reporters on the sidelines after launching AMD at GBS By The Sea today. He said Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh is welcome to come to Penang to enjoy its food. 'He is most welcomed to come and enjoy our food, nasi kandar, we have durians too, as long as he doesn't stir trouble,' he said. Akmal had previously planned to hold a 'class' for the shop owner in Kepala Batas who had put up the flag upside down. However, after a police warning, he cancelled the event and posted on his social media that he is only coming to Penang for the food and to see the big Jalur Gemilang put up on the shop frontage by DAP. The hardware store in Jalan Bertam Perdana recently went viral for flying the national flag upside down. The 59-year-old shop owner, who was investigated, reportedly said it was an unintentional mistake while measuring the flagpole and that he had corrected the mistake later. Following the controversy, DAP announced that it would sponsor a giant Jalur Gemilang for the shop and mobilised Penang party members to distribute 831 flags.
