Time of India22-04-2025

Elvish Yadav
found himself in hot water last year after allegedly making
racist remarks
against Bigg Boss 18 contestant and actress
Chum Darang
during a podcast. The YouTuber faced severe backlash online, with social media users slamming him for his offensive comments. His remarks were also strongly condemned by the
Arunachal Pradesh State Women's Commission
(APSCW).
Now, in the latest development, Elvish appeared at the
National Commission for Women
(
NCW
) office in Delhi on Tuesday, April 22, after being summoned for questioning. During his visit, he issued an apology for his comments.
After coming out of the NCW office, Elvish Yadav addressed the media and issued a public apology. He said, "Jaise jaise hum life mein grow karte hai, aage badhte hain toh maturity aati hai aur joh Chum wala tha usme bohot saarein log aise hai jinko mera intentions samajh nahi aaya."
(As we grow in life and age, we also gain maturity. Regarding the Chum incident, many people didn't understand my intentions.)

He further said, "I agree that if people felt hurt by my words, then I must have said something wrong. That's why, in this matter, I went inside and apologised. I don't have anything personal against anyone, nor do I hold any grudges. I've submitted my apology."
For the uninitiated, the controversy started when Elvish Yadav made offensive comments during a podcast with fellow Bigg Boss 18 contestant Rajat Dalal.

The podcast, which aired on February 11, 2025, featured Elvish mocking Chum Darang's name and ethnicity. He made crude remarks about her looks and even criticized her role in the film Gangubai Kathiawadi. Elvish reportedly said, "Karan Veer must have definitely had COVID because who would like Chum, bro? Who has such bad taste! And even Chum's name itself is vulgar… Her name is Chum, and she worked in Gangubai Kathiawadi.
"
Chum Darang wasted no time in responding to Elvish Yadav's remarks. Taking to Instagram, she firmly condemned his statements, "Disrespecting someone's identity and name is not 'fun.' Mocking someone's achievements is not 'banter.' It's time we drew the line between humour and hate. What's even more disappointing is that this wasn't just about my ethnicity, my hard work and a film backed by a visionary like Sanjay Leela Bhansali were also disrespected," she wrote.
In the wake of the backlash, the Arunachal Pradesh State Women's Commission (APSCW) also strongly denounced Elvish Yadav's comments. The commission sent a formal letter to the National Commission for Women (NCW), demanding action against the YouTuber. They stated that his remarks were not only offensive to Chum Darang but also deeply disrespectful to women from Northeast India as a whole.
APSCW Chairperson Kenjem Pakam emphasized that such derogatory statements contribute to a sense of insecurity among women from the Northeast who aspire to build careers in Bollywood. She urged the NCW to take firm and immediate action to set an example and prevent such behavior in the future.

‘Mean Girls' breakout star Avantika turns desi diva in futuristic Banarasi saree

(Image Credits: Instagram) From the opulence of Mughal courts to the racks of modern runways, the legacy of Banarasi silk continues to reign as a timeless symbol of Indian artistry. With its lush drape, delicate softness, and undeniable grandeur, this historic weave holds its roots deep in Indian soil, where tradition and innovation now come together in striking harmony. Among the designers championing this rich heritage is Amit Aggarwal, whose latest collection is a tapestry of nostalgia woven with futuristic finesse. Showcased on a global stage, the collection features 'Mean Girls' star Avantika Vandanapu as its stunning muse. Dressed in an elegant handwoven Banarasi silk saree, Avantika channels a bold new take on ethnic wear. The copper-toned drape, printed with golden paisleys, is layered under a structured strapless blouse, giving the classic silhouette an edgy, modern lift. (Image Credits: Instagram) Amit's interpretation of the saree harks back to the Vedic era of draping, yet speaks fluently in the language of contemporary couture. Metallic textures and architectural tailoring give the outfit a futuristic sheen, while keeping the soul of craftsmanship intact. Avantika's soft curls, styled to one side, and her natural, luminous makeup added an earthy elegance to the look, letting the ensemble do all the talking. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo But the innovation didn't stop there. In a bold departure from conventional fabrics, Amit pushed the envelope with a deconstructed Banarasi gown made from recycled materials. The faded silver creation shimmered under light, hugging the body with structured pleats and floral cut-outs. A sweetheart neckline with wired straps enhanced the silhouette, exuding quiet strength and sensuality. This wasn't just about celebrating the past, it was about redefining it. The collection explored a seamless dialogue between handwoven traditions and machine-moulded modernity. Every pleat, every sheen told a story of transformation. (Image Credits: Instagram) Avantika embodied this duality with ease. Her makeup palette embraced her dusky skin, featuring sculpted contours, subtle brown blush, and sharp winged eyeliner that added intensity to her gaze. A touch of gloss on the lips completed the look, keeping it fresh, fierce, and effortless. Priyanka Chopra looks stunning in thigh high mini skirt Born in the West but rooted in Indian culture, Avantika brought the perfect edge to Amit Aggarwal's artistic vision. Together, they turned garments into heirlooms and fashion into narrative, proof that tradition, when told through the right lens, never goes out of style.

Pakistani host Nadia Khan praises Diljit Dosanjh for casting Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3 despite backlash: 'He is a Sikh brother... Darte kisi se nahi hai'

Amidst controversy over Hania Aamir's casting in Sardaar Ji 3, Pakistani host Nadia Khan supports Diljit Dosanjh and the filmmakers for releasing the film internationally. Despite backlash from Indian audiences and industry bodies demanding action, the team stands by their decision. The film will proceed with its international release, sparking debate on art versus politics. As controversy brews in India over the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3, the film is receiving unexpected support across the border. Pakistani television host and actress Nadia Khan has praised Diljit Dosanjh and the filmmakers for standing by their project and releasing it internationally despite mounting criticism. With social media divided and industry bodies demanding action, the cross-border collaboration has once again reignited the debate on art versus politics. In a viral video clip from her show, Nadia addresses the Sardaar Ji 3 controversy, applauding the filmmakers for sticking to their release plans despite mounting pressure. She praised Diljit Dosanjh and the all-Sikh team for standing their ground and moving ahead with the film's June 27 release featuring Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. She also expressed admiration for the strategic silence maintained by the Sardaar Ji 3 team. She noted how the quiet promotion led many to believe that Hania Aamir had been removed from the film. However, with the release of the trailer, it became clear that Hania features prominently, and Diljit Dosanjh, one of India's biggest stars today, continues to have massive public support. Acknowledging the intense backlash from Indian audiences, Nadia pointed out that Diljit Dosanjh is facing criticism, with some even labelling him a traitor. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Worst Home Items That People Own, Ranked CleverClassic Undo Despite this, she noted that the actor appears unfazed and determined to go ahead with the release. She also expressed her hope that the film will eventually be screened in Pakistan. However, the decision to proceed with the film's release has drawn sharp criticism from a section of Indian audiences and industry bodies. After Diljit Dosanjh shared the trailer on Instagram, many social media users slammed him for being 'insensitive' and 'shameless' for working with a Pakistani actress amid heightened tensions. In response to the controversy, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has called for a complete ban on Diljit Dosanjh's concerts and demanded the suspension of all his social media accounts in India. The association also urged that no government or private entity collaborate with him and called for a probe into the funding of Sardaar Ji 3. Adding to the backlash, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has urged the government to 'blacklist' the makers of Sardaar Ji 3. The organisation also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revoke their passports and Indian citizenship in light of the film's collaboration with a Pakistani actress. Responding to the growing criticism, the production team of Sardaar Ji 3 released an official statement on June 24, clarifying that the film was completed well before the recent Pahalgam terror attack . They emphasised that no Pakistani artist was signed or brought on board after the tragic incident, and the collaboration had occurred much earlier. Acknowledging the sensitive timing, the makers further stated that they stand in solidarity with the nation and its people. Given the prevailing sentiment, they had consciously chosen not to release the film or any promotional material in India until the situation becomes more appropriate. As of now, Sardaar Ji 3 will have a theatrical release only in international markets starting June 27.
