Super Bowl season bringing business to local bakeries

Yahoo08-02-2025
Much like the Super Bowl game this Sunday, local bakeries are hoping for a sellout on desserts as fans look to celebrate this weekend.
Whipping up Chiefs-themed desserts ahead of this Sunday's Big game has become a common theme for Country Cookie and Love & Frosting Bakeshop in St. Joseph.
'We've been very beneficial over the last five years,' said Jackie Beers, store manager at Country Cookie. 'They've continued to press this far so we're a little nervous about it if a Super Bowl doesn't ever happen for them.'
While Super Bowl season continues to bring success to the local bakery, it finds itself running out of treats before the season even begins.
'We actually start our spirit for the Chiefs clear back in August when training camp starts,' Beers said. 'So, we always make it a big deal to have Chief-themed items because we get so many people from out of state that come in town just for the pre-season.'
The Chiefs-colored sprinkle cookies are the most popular themed item, but they offer a variety of other decorated cookies and cakes, including football-decorated cookies, cookies adorned with Travis Kelce's jersey, and even Taylor Swift-inspired cookies reading 'in our champion era.'
'It's just something cute and fun to have at all the game day celebrations,' Beers said. 'Kind of a hometown pride thing.'
Business is swinging right in for love and frosting bakeshop as well.
'Every year, we kind of learn what our customers are really wanting, which is more of the custom decorated chiefs-themed items,' said Niki Longers, owner of Love & Frosting Bakeshop.
Longers says they're expecting an influx of orders this year, so the business is staying prepared with not only Kansas City Chief sweets but also snacks for those who prefer a salty taste—their game day 'snack mix.'
While businesses are staying prepared, they're expecting to sell a high number of treats on Saturday just before Super Bowl Sunday, so fans should plan to buy their treats soon.

Pittsburgh Steelers Projected to Swing Big Move for Aaron Rodgers

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Pittsburgh Steelers have definitely swung for the fences this offseason, adding big names like Aaron Rodgers, D.K. Metcalf and Jalen Ramsey to significantly bolster their Super Bowl chances. However, after trading away George Pickens, it's pretty evident that the Steelers are lacking proven depth in the wide receiver department. More news: Steelers Predicted to Replace Aaron Rodgers With Polarizing INT Leader Sure, Metcalf is terrific, but there isn't a whole lot behind him in the wide receiver room, which could spell some trouble for Pittsburgh this coming season. But at this point, who could the Steelers bring in to provide more help for Rodgers? Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley has identified a potential solution and is predicting Pittsburgh to sign five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper, who is still available in free agency. "Declining isn't the same as #washed, so Cooper should be able to help the right team," Buckley wrote. "He'd have a non-zero chance of stabilizing the WR2 role in Pittsburgh one would think." Aaron Rodgers #8 of the Pittsburgh Steelers looks to pass during Minicamp at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on June 11, 2025 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Photo byCooper played for both the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills last season, totaling 44 catches for 547 yards and four touchdowns over 14 games in what was the least productive campaign in his NFL career. That being said, the 31-year-old is just two years removed from hauling in 72 receptions for 1,250 yards and five scores in what was arguably his best season, so perhaps Cooper still has something left in the tank. It couldn't hurt the Steelers to give Cooper a shot. He probably wouldn't cost much at this juncture, and he is at the very least a proven weapon who should be able to add something to Pittsburgh's aerial attack. More news: Caleb Williams' WR Comments are Bad Sign for Bears Rookie Otherwise, the Steelers will be relying on young options like Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson, which doesn't inspire a ton of confidence. It has always seemed hard to imagine Pittsburgh will enter the regular season with its wide receiver form as currently constructed, so maybe the Steelers will make a move here before Week 1. Nik Bonitto's great quote on contract status: 'I just want to compete for a championship'

As the Denver Broncos continue to negotiate a long-term contract extension with outside linebacker Nik Bonitto, there seems to be a sense that a deal is inevitable -- it's just a question of when. 'They're going well," Bonitto said Tuesday when asked about extension talks. "I feel like there's been good communication on both sides. I think it's just my agent -- I feel like he's one of the best in the game. I feel like I gotta trust what he's doing. Knowing how they feel about me upstairs, I feel like something will get done. It's just a matter of when. Until then, I just have to keep doing me.' Bonitto said the Broncos have made it clear that re-signing him is a priority for them, and it's just a matter of finalizing the details. When asked if he'd like to wait to sign until after Micah Parsons gets an extension, Bonitto said he had no preference and would leave that up to his agent. Bonitto also noted that the edge market is going in his favor because it continues to rise. When asked if he wants to have a deal done before the regular season begins, the 25-year-old pass rusher had a perfect response. "I mean, not really," Bonitto said. "At the end of the day, I'm still under contract for another year, so, yeah, I would like to get it done, but that's like the least of my worries, honestly. I just want to compete for a championship this year [and] do all the things that we have set out to do as a team and as a defense." As his agent works on ironing out an extension, Bonitto is focused on preparing for another strong season as Denver's defense looks to contend for a Super Bowl in 2025. It's a great mentality to have. The contract will get done eventually. In the meantime, Bonitto's focused on football. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Watch Oklahoma QB John Mateer give Sooners teammates Beats By Dre

When the Oklahoma Sooners added quarterback John Mateer via the transfer portal, the hope was that he'd help resurrect an offense that was one of the worst in the nation in 2025. Not only has he done that, but he's also been a big part of building team 131 from a leadership standpoint. Players and coaches have spoken of Mateer's leadership and how he's not only built relationships with everyone on the offensive side of the ball, but he's also built a strong rapport with the guys on defense as well. He's sat in on meetings with each position group and has gone above and beyond to build confidence and camaraderie. Mateer recently entered into a name, image, and likeness agreement with the worldwide brand Beats by Dre. Oklahoma football released a video of Mateer walking into Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium sporting the Oklahoma Sooners-themed Beats. But that wasn't all. Mateer also gifted his teammates with a pair of Beats. The reaction will leave you smiling, as teammates could be heard in the video shouting, "We love you, John!!!" The gesture had the players smiling and cheering after practice let out. Watch the video of Mateer giving his teammates the Beats headphones below as released by Oklahoma Football's social media team.
