AL East-leading Blue Jays place infielder Andrés Giménez on injured list with left ankle sprain
Giménez left Toronto's 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday. He had tweaked his left ankle covering second base on a steal on Wednesday against the New York Yankees and did not play Thursday as Toronto completed a sweep of the four-game series. His move to the IL was retroactive to Saturday. Giménez is batting .218 with five homers and 23 RBI's for the AL East-leading Blue Jays.
In other moves before Sunday's game against Los Angeles, right-hander Ryan Burr was reinstated from the 60-day IL and outfielder Joey Loperfido was recalled from Triple-A. Also, right-hander Lazaro Estrada was optioned to Triple-A and outfielder Will Robertson was designated for assignment.
Burr had been sidelined with a right shoulder issue and did rehab with Triple-A Buffalo, where he struck out 17 in 12 1/3 innings over 11 games and went 1-0 with a 3.65 ERA.
Loperfido was in the lineup Sunday, batting eighth and playing right field. This season in Triple-A, the 26-year-old is batting .278 with nine home runs and 36 RBIs.
Estrada made his big league debut against the Angels on Saturday, striking out four in four innings of relief.
Robertson made his MLB debut last month and saw action in three games. He had one hit and one RBI with Toronto.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Travis d'Arnaud hit a pinch-hit RBI single down the left-field line in the ninth inning to give the Los Angeles Angels a 6-5 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night. Logan O'Hoppe was hit by a pitch with one out against left-hander Kyle Backhus (0-1) before Luis Rengifo singled and d'Arnaud delivered in place of Gustavo Campero. Zach Neto and Yoan Moncada each hit home runs in the first inning for the Angels, while Nolan Schanuel and Rengifo each had three hits as LA improved to 7-3 against NL West teams this season. Randal Grichuk hit a pair of home runs and drove in three runs as the Diamondbacks dropped to 3-7 since July 2. (AP) — Max Scherzer struck out eight batters and allowed five hits over six innings to win for the first time in nearly a year, and the Toronto Blue Jays scored six unearned runs in the fifth inning to beat the Athletics 7-6 on Friday night The AL East-leading Blue Jays have won 13 of 15 games. Scherzer (1-0) became the first Toronto pitcher 40 years and older to win since R.A. Dickey on May 4, 2015, and fifth in team history. It also was the first victory for the three-time Cy Young Award winner since he and the Texas Rangers beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1 on July 25 of last year. Toronto first baseball Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singled with one out in the fifth for his 1,000th career hit.
