Chicago Bears 2025 free agency tracker: Building around Caleb Williams, Ben Johnson
GM Ryan Poles' record in three seasons is 15-36 with one fired head coach, but he got another swing at that, and alongside Ben Johnson, can attack the offseason and build a contender for 2025.

The Bears went 5-12 last season, which included mystifying losses, a franchise-record losing streak, and a quarterback who was sacked way too often. However, the roster is not that far away from taking a big jump in Johnson's first season. The Bears began the offseason with plenty of cap space and three picks in the top 41 selections of April's draft. Caleb Williams is going to have several new faces in the huddle with him, to go along with a new coach in his ear calling plays.
Poles kicked things off with two trades for starting guards, not waiting until free agency to begin fortifying the group tasked with protecting Williams.

Bears re-sign DB Josh Blackwell
March 6: Set to be a restricted free agent, Blackwell returns to the Bears on a two-year deal worth up to $6 million, a league source confirmed. That's a nice contract to reward the team's top special-teamer. Blackwell's punt-return touchdown in Week 18 against the Packers earned him Special Teams Player of the Week. He's been a productive gunner since joining the team in 2022 off waivers, and has stepped in nicely as a backup slot corner when needed.
Bears keep LB Amen Ogbongbemiga
March 6: Another special-teams move, Ogbongbemiga was one of the core players for Richard Hightower's unit in his first season with Chicago. He also signed a two-year deal, per NFL Network. He had five special-teams tackles and six assists, plus a sack on defense.
Adding a No. 2 TE in Durham Smythe
March 6: Johnson's Lions were third in the NFL in percentage of plays run in 12 personnel (two tight ends). Smythe, who played at Notre Dame in 2017 with Cole Kmet, reunites with his former college teammate to complement him in Chicago, NFL Network reported. He also was a rookie with the Dolphins in '18 when Johnson was their wide receivers coach.

Joe Thuney brings significant upgrade to line
March 5: The Bears haven't had an offensive lineman named first-team All-Pro since 2006. Enter Thuney, who's done it two years in a row with the Chiefs. He comes to Chicago with four Super Bowl rings, experience with two of the greatest quarterbacks and head coaches to ever do it, and brings leadership the line needs.
Jonah Jackson, Ben Johnson reunion
March 4: Poles' first major move of the offseason was to send a sixth-round pick to the Rams to take a chance with Jackson, who is set to make $17.5 million this season after playing in only four games in 2024. He overlapped with Johnson in Detroit, where he made a Pro Bowl in 2021, so there's trust in Johnson for this move to happen.

Here's a quick look at who the Eagles could call on from their current roster, free agency and a potential robust trade market at offensive guard The Eagles could be without Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson for an extended period after he suffered a torn meniscus during the open stadium practice at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday evening. Dickerson had a Monday MRI that revealed an injury, but not its severity. A meniscus tear can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to heal, depending on the severity of the tear and the treatment approach. A minor tear, treated with rest and physical therapy, could heal in 4-8 weeks, costing Dickerson a few games and 3-6 months for complete recovery. A more severe tear for Dickerson could require surgery, and potentially up to 6-9 months for a full return to activities. With Eagles fans and media patiently waiting for a prognosis, we're looking at options currently on the roster, in free agency, and via a potential trade that could help absorb the loss of the perennial Pro Bowl offensive guard. On the Eagles' roster Brett Toth Toth was signed by the Eagles in 2019 after he was granted a military waiver from the Army. He was claimed off waivers by the Cardinals before rejoining Philadelphia and spending time on both the active roster and practice squad, appearing in 17 games total in 2020 and 2021. Toth played three games for the Panthers in 2023. He was released in December and signed to the Eagles' practice squad for the remainder of that season, and spent all of 2024 on the practice squad. Matt Pryor Pryor spent the 2024 season with the Chicago Bears after playing the 2023 season in San Francisco. The Eagles selected Pryor in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL draft out of TCU. Last season, Pryor saw action in all 17 games for Chicago, making 15 starts at offensive guard. Pryor was solid in 2024 and was the 21st highest graded offensive guard in 2024 according to PFF. Kenyon Green The Eagles acquired the former first-round pick in a trade with the Houston Texans this offseason. The 15th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M, Green (6-4, 325) has started 23 games in his career and will look to have a breakout season finally. Trevor Keegan A fifth-round pick in 2024, Keegan (6-5, 306 pounds) will look to take the next step and push for more playing time after spending all of his rookie season on the active roster. He took snaps at the center position during OTAs. Free Agent options Brandon Scherff, G Another potential addition for depth, the veteran offensive guard had a pass block win rate of 93.8% last year, which ranked 14th among guards, according to ESPN. Jedrick Wills Jr., OT Wills is sitting out the year, but could be in line for a position switch like Mekhi Becton, and he's still a solid pass blocker who has a career pass block win rate of 92.0%. Dalton Risner The 29-year-old Risner was a second-round pick of the Broncos in 2019 and played four years in Denver before signing with the Vikings in 2023. He has been a starter when healthy throughout his NFL career. Trade Candidates Liam Eichenberg-Miami Dolphins Eichenberg, 27, has played in 60 games and started 52 in his four seasons with the Dolphins. While he has consistently struggled throughout his career, the veteran lineman has made starts at all five positions, and coaches have valued his versatility. However, Eichenberg is currently on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Tytus Howard-Houston Texans Howard, who has been a key piece for Houston's offensive line, has been mentioned as a trade candidate. The 29-year-old is versatile, having played tackle and guard.

That as long as Jerry Jones is running this franchise and doing the drafting and making free agency decisions, this team will not win a Super Bowl, because Jerry Jones cares way too much about being in the headlines, about being the number one story than he does about actually winning. Because if Jerry Jones actually cared about winning, I don't believe Brian Schottenheimer would be the head coach of this organization. I believe Brian Schottenheimer is the head coach of this organization because Jerry Jones can't handle anybody else getting more publicity and more love and more credit for the Cowboys than he is. What do you do when you realize the owner of your favorite team just isn't a very good owner, you know, and there's nothing you can do. We could talk all day long about Jayden Daniels and what it meant for the resurgence of the Washington Commanders, but you have to acknowledge that that became a heck of a lot easier to accomplish when they cleaned house of everybody in the building. And simply being bad at your job isn't a reason that you're going to be. Forced to sell a team. So if you're a Panthers fan, guess what? You're gonna have Tepper forever until, you know, he decides he wants to go off and mess something else up. If you're a Cowboys fan, you're, you're sort of stuck with whatever this version of Jerry Jones is. I'm a, I'm a diehard Raiders fan. Everybody knows that. I'm stuck with whatever Mark Davis decides year in and year out. Like there is really nothing you can do. For all of the conversation about drafting and quarterbacks and GMs and head coaches, at the end of the day, culture is created from the top down. If the person that leads your Organization is just not good at identifying talent all the way down and then not good at staying out of the way, you suddenly end up being a fan of a team that stinks every single year. Jerry Jones at one point was incredible at his job and I'm not sure that there's been anybody more important to the modern NFL when it comes to modernization and branding. Who Replaces Landon Dickerson? Six Eagles Options Including Jason Kelce Comeback
The Philadelphia Eagles face a potential crisis if three-time Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson misses extended time after suffering a reported meniscus injury to his right knee Sunday night during the team's public practice at Lincoln Financial Field. Dickerson was helped off the field before being carted inside from the sideline. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Dickerson is exploring additional treatment options to determine what comes next and how much time he will be sidelined. If Dickerson is sidelined for a significant amount of time, the Birds will need someone to step up as part of one of the league's elite offensive lines. Pryor was rated the 31st best guard in the NFL by Pro Football Focus in 2024, including an impressive eighth in pass blocking, though he ranked 52nd in run blocking. The Eagles drafted Pryor in the sixth round of the 2018 draft. He has started 39 games across six seasons with four different teams. Brett Toth Brett Toth is officially listed as Dickerson's backup but lacks Pryor's experience. Toth made the Eagles' 2020 roster as an undrafted free agent, appearing in six games with one start. He made one additional start during his career with the Carolina Panthers in 2023 before returning to Philadelphia last year. Kenyon Green The Eagles acquired former first-round pick Kenyon Green from the Houston Texans as part of the C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade. Green never lived up to his potential with Houston, missing all of 2023 with a shoulder injury. He was rated poorly by Pro Football Focus, ranking 132nd out of 136 guards in 2024. If anyone can resurrect his career, it's Philadelphia's offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland. Trevor Keegan Another internal candidate is 24-year-old Trevor Keegan, a fifth-round pick out of Michigan in 2024. He appeared in one game last year — the season finale against the New York Giants. Keegan stands 6-foot-5 and 306 pounds. Cole Strange If the Eagles look outside the organization, New England Patriots offensive lineman Cole Strange could be a target. He appears on the roster bubble after being a first-round pick in 2022 under the Bill Belichick regime, and his time in New England may be ending. Strange suffered a torn patellar tendon in 2023 and played only three games last year after starting the season on the physically unable to perform list. He could be acquired for a Day 3 pick, and under Stoutland's guidance, there's a chance he could fulfill his first-round potential. Jason Kelce Imagine Jason Kelce unretiring because of Dickerson's injury, sliding back to center while Cam Jurgens moves to left guard, leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl repeat? It's wholly unlikely Kelce would return given his lucrative podcast and ESPN deals, but it's fun to consider. He has been helping offensive linemen at training camp, sharing his Hall of Fame knowledge. Could he suit up one last time? Stranger things have happened.
